We had a beautiful break away for the last 5 days in the peaceful mountain sarounded by the Alpacas, chicken, ducks and Goats. We got to hand feed the Alpacas which happens at 3pm each day. We have learnt so much since being here and enjoyed our time as the staff were so helpful and friendly to answer any questions that we had. The log cabin was very spacious and beautifully maintained with excellent views over the dam paddock and you could see the Alpacas from your cabin. The fire place was so welcoming on the chilly nights only the first time we used it and it was easy to do. The beds were very comfortable with a king in the main room single in the Lounge room which was made up and a double fold out sofa. We had a TV and basic cooking utensils Cutlery plates, a fridge and freezer as well. Happy to tell everyone we know to go visit and enjoy the animals we will hope fully be back again soon Thank you

We booked the spa bath option at Madisons and had a lovely position in front of the water and BBQ area. I emailed the host Anne in advanced that we would be checking in earlier as we wanted to make the most of our day. There is a small charge for arriving early but we were happy to pay it. The retreat is a perfect place to get away from the city and have some time out with the kids. Everyone including the host Anne were so friendly and helpful. Anne showed us to our cabin which we were very happy with. We had logs to light the fire and were told the times of feeding the alpacas at 9am and 3pm. There were other families there so the kids had a lot of fun and enjoyed the feeding times. The cabins suited us and we knew from the website that the decor was a little dated but that does not bother us as long as everything is clean and tidy that is the main thing. We took our dog as well but you have to make sure that your dog is on leash at all times otherwise they can chase the chickens or if they get into the alpaca area it would definitely not be a good outcome for your dog. The BBQ area was nice and clean. I would only say if I was staying longer it would be hard as there is no dishwasher, oven, or grill. It just helps when you stay as a family but understand the cabins probably were not designed for that and the retreat is eco friendly. There is an electric stove and microwave and the BBQ facilities. For me two days would be ok to stay here but I also enjoy cooking with an oven and grill but I suppose everyone is different. We all really enjoyed the peace and quiet and the kids loved the whole area cycling around and enjoying the animals especially the feeding times. I booked direct on their website and think it is great to support small Aussie businesses especially when they were affected by the bushfires and now covid. The retreat was very clean, beds comfy and the swimming pool was open but just too cold for us. There is no washing machine in the cabins but I had to wash a duvet and just asked the host Anne who directed me to use the retreats washing machine which helped. I would recommend the retreat for one or two days with family. Its only an hour or so out of sydney, relaxing and peaceful. Thankyou for our stay we will be back.

Response from Alpaca Breeder, Owner at Madison's Mountain Retreat
Responded 22 Aug 2020
We are glad that you had a great time when you stayed, including your fur baby. You are quite right in saying that dogs must be on a lead as we have free range chickens and the alpacas are natural herd guards. We have an oven with a grill in the common room, and the BBQs are available for use by guests.

We booked two cabins at Madison's Mountain Retreat for 3 adults and 5 kids. It was amazing and we made good use of all the facilities. The cabins were super clean and very spacious with a nice outlook to the dam and the animals. We had a bbq, used the fireplace at night, feed the Alpacas, gathered hens eggs, saw a peacock, played tennis, swam in the pool and generally relaxed. We didn't even need to turn on the TV. The kids loved it and they were well entertained. Us adults loved that we got the kids off their ipads for our stay there and the property felt really safe and had lots of kids toys and games for use. Thanks Anne and team we will definitely be coming back.

The country setting of these holiday cabins is quite lovely and seeing the alpacas definitely adds to the experience. The cabins are clean and comfortable although somewhat basic for those who may be used to more luxury comforts. What unfortunately detracts from the experience and the reason we would never return is the manager. She does her best to try to be friendly but unfortunately it is just not in her nature. When you ask a general question or make a comment (for example about the alpacas) she jumps down your throat for no reason. What disappointed us the most was the morning we were checking out the check out time was 10.30am. At 10.33am, on the dot, she turned up on the balcony of our cabin with all her cleaning equipment and just stood there waiting for us to vacate. There was no dish towel provided to dry the dishes so we were meticulously drying them up with paper towel and that, together with stripping and folding up the portacot that we had borrowed from the resort took extra time. We did politely tell her that we may be 10 mins late packing the remainder of our things but this was met with a very rude manner and we were made to feel incredibly uncomfortable as she stood directly outside our room the whole time until we vacated. Lesson for management if you want people out by 10.30am then make check our time 10am as you always need to allow a small grace period for people to pack their car. As always, we left the place immaculate and I would much rather a guest leave 10 mins late with good memories of a nice stay rather than disappointment for having been made to feel so small and undervalued.

We visited Madison’s Mountain Retreat over New Years. We stayed 2 night with our 4 year old son. We really enjoyed our stay and thought it was even nicer than we expected. The cottage we stayed was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Kitchen was well equipped (even had cooking oil, salt, sugar, tea, coffee). The bed was super comfortable and we loved the alpaca themed bedlinen. Anne was a great host, very friendly and knowledgeable about the animals and the area. She clearly loves the animals and takes good care of them. The indoor pool was warm enough for our son to swim on it and nice to have on a hot day. We enjoyed using the BBQ for our meals and sit at the bbq area in the evenings looking at the sunset and the animals. There were lots of toys and activities (games, DVDs) to borrow during our stay which our son loved. We will definitely come back, maybe when the weather gets cooler so we can use the fireplace inside the cottage.

Attended the Alpaca feeding experience on 24-Jan-2021. We were simply led to a herd of alpaca and provided with two buckets of feed. There is no education/ explanation otherwise, though the guide will answer questions if asked. We were asked to leave after 40min. At $20 per person, this is exceptionally poor value. We only have 5 stars experience with all other providers in the area.

We stayed at Madison's to work a few days out of the office, seemed like a great place to get some work done, mixed in with a few hikes and some swimming. We messaged prior to arriving that we were excited to use the pool and spa.
We turned up a little early as traffic had been better than expected on the drive up from Sydney - however, on enquiring if we could drop our bags, were told in no uncertain terms to leave and come back later - fair enough but the hostile attitude of the host / owner was to continue for our entire stay.
When we did return later, we then found out for the first time that the pool and spa were both closed, despite messaging about this prior to arrival, nothing had been said, and was one of the primary reasons we chose the location. This seemed to have been deliberately excluded prior to arrival, however we decided to make the best of this and did not make a fuss.
Unfortunately for the rest of our stay, despite not making a fuss and keeping to ourselves as quiet guests the main host continued to be rather hostile and unfriendly.
The rooms were pretty dated, and just not worth the money alone. Wouldn't recommend, very disappointed, - the host just seemed to be one of those people who should absolutely not be in the hospitality industry.

Unfortunately, you arrived prior to the room being cleaned and we do not have a storage room for bags. Our pool is open but the spa was damaged in the bushfire and you were told that. You chose not to use the pool. You decided to stay longer than checkout time in your room but the room was booked so we needed you to vacate for cleaning. You refused so we politely asked again. You refused so we asked again, and again. You finally vacated the cabin but stayed on the property on a business call. At no time were we rude but got did not get your way. Guess you can't please everyone.

After a few days away in Mudgee, we decided to break up our return home by having an overnight stay at Madison's Mountain Retreat. Primarily because we wanted to do our bit by supporting some of the regional businesses affected by the bushfires last summer, and secondly it was a farmstay with Aplacas. The accommodation was excellent, with all the facilities being clean, neat and tidy. Anne was very helpful, by providing us with a number of options for dinner that night, and also very informative, by educating us about Alpacas when we joined her at the 3pm feeding. For dinner, we chose The Archibald Hotel, which is only a ten minute drive down the road, where the meal was top notch. All in all, we would totally recommend a stay at Madison's Mountain Retreat. Thank you Anne for an enjoyable stay!

We stayed at Madison’s over the weekend with our son and his family. We throughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for the night. There was lots of blankets so we didn’t bother with the wood fire but will give it a go next time we visit. We loved the lake with the ducks and geese and our grandkids loved feeding the alpacas in the morning . We also loved using the BBQ area for breakfast as it had a great heater. Thanks Anne for being a lovely host.

A quiet and relaxing weekend with Alpacas, away from crowds. Cabins were basic but well maintained and clean. This area was affected by bush fire in the summer, so it's nice to support them and the local shops during such a difficult year.
First time staying at a farm for us, it's a different experience in a setting like this (compared to a zoo). The animals are more curious and interactive. They look more gorgeous than the ones at zoos, as I suppose some of them are carefully bred for competitions.
Small suggestions, in winter it could be a little too cold to enjoy the pool, so it would be great if they could add a swing, slide and monkey bars for the kids. It would also be nice if they keep a few more chickens in a larger pen so there are more eggs for the kids to pickup in the mornings.

Thanks for your suggestions. Did you visit our kids cubby house and the toys in the common room? We have balls, raquets and bats for use on our tennis court. We have just acquired a toddler slide. Unfortunately, we have been advised by insurance not to have children's play equipment where they could get hurt (e.g. Monkey bars).
