This was our first hostel in NZ, and not really what we were expecting. It's more of a community than a hostel, with lots of wwoofers and "volunteers" around. Everyone was very friendly, but it felt like the place was right out of the movie "Wanderlust". We had booked a private room w/shared shower/bathroom, which is what we usually do...

I think reviews slamming this place are unfair. Location is superb, and handy for public transport. It is inexpensive, and it is what it is. There is a lot of the delusional "natural is good" fallacy in effect at the hostel; but most people - when not on their smart phones - seem happy and relaxed. In NZ to study...

We stayed there for nearly 3 weeks, 1 1/2 weeks before our northland roadtrip and then 1 week before going back home and it was awesome! There is nothing more special than waking up underneath a rainbow (we stayed in the rainbow room, which has a huge rainbow drawn onto the wall over the bed), walking into the dining room,...

It was dark when we arrived, and at first we weren't sure if we were at the right place, it looked very run down, however, we were greeted by the 'house Angels' who were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. I don't mind taking my shoes off at my Nan's house, however when I'm a paying customer I don't expect to. After...

I was a little nervous going into my stay at Fat Cat but I need not have worried. The whole place was incredibly friendly and such a warm happy place to spend some time. The room had everything I needed including a comfortable bed and later I stayed in one of their tents which was equally as nice. The thing...

I stayed in a 6 bed dorm in the hostel and it was great. My bed was comfortable and I could unpack my things under my bed. The atmosphere is awesome as everyone is so friendly. The vegan breakfast & dinner is amazing and free, all you have to do is pick a chore at random which is fun like...

Such an amazing place with firebath, yoga deck, workshops, chicken, mulch shower, compost toilets, eco bike and amazingly open minded people who care about the world. Dinner and breakfast was vegan and tasty, meals are together on a big table and you can create a better place with the community. Try it out. Highly recommended when you are looking for...

I quite enjoyed my time at Fat Cat. It's in the middle of nowhere, so the Wi-Fi is hopeless and getting to shops can be quite a chore, but the actual idea is a good one, also the people are generally decent enough. The free vegan meals are a great idea, while most of the staff are friendly enough. There...
