Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

A very disappointing experience. The cabin was dirty, bathroom had mould on the grout and shower curtain. There was nowhere to put the soap ( soap holder broken) only one toilet roll for four of us for three nights. Walls were grubby throughout. Definitely not a loved place. No tea or coffee and little oven didn’t work thankfully there were no ants. Air conditioning did work though thankfully. If it was clean would have been good.

Just spent 4 nights at Moonta Bay cabins, they are clean but small and average. You have to take all your own linen, quilts, pillows and towels. There is no grassed area for kids to play, only concrete.
The communal bbq was filthy dirty, and the bins were so full.
We never once saw anyone who looked like they were in charge or checking the property, as there is no office on site.
We booked through Travel Auctions, where it had said “private undercover area with outdoor setting”, our cabins had none of this and we had 2 cabins.
I loved Montana, but wouldn’t stay here again.

Came for a week, wanted to leave in a day. This place is not family friendly, no playground or views, cabins are in no way homely, no pictures on walls - just blank walls. Second bedroom was tiny, no room to move.
The whole place feels rather neglected and unloved. On a positive, the cabins were clean, however the fridge door did not close properly and upon arrival the kitchen had ants all over the place with no fly spray provided. We stayed for 7 nights yet were only supplied with two rolls of toilet paper.
Great place to stay for a night, or to use it as only a stopover, however I wouldn't recommend it for families or anyone wanting to hang around.
Returned home very disappointed.

We stayed at Moonta bay cabins and wished we didn't. The cabin smelt like a toilet and the yard is dirty and messy, the lights don't work at the so called outside bbq areas. All the tables were dirty outside. Bbq electric doesn't work. No milk butter or anything in the cabin. Turned the heater on and it smelt like pee. Only 2 rolls of toilet paper. Have to bring your own towels and bedding. Plus they ask for a an extra $250 on-top op the already high price just incase you wreck the place. Yes you get it back but it's not stated until you have already booked. It's a horrible place to stay. No shampoo or body wash was supplied. Fish cleaning area smelt horrid and the drain from the fish cleaning area drained only 3ft away straight onto the ground. No internet supplied. And no carpet or rug in the lounge room area. Do your self a favour and stay somewhere else!!!! Very dissatisfied!!!!

BEWARE - Returned yesterday from a 3 day stay at these questionable cabins. Shocked on arrival as concrete everywhere no greenery, no warmth inside or outside cabins. No linen supplied, tiles cracked everywhere, curtains dirty and torn, shower screemed, you sink in the lounge. I worked on a mine site for many years and the accommodation was 5 star compared with these cabins.
Don,t ruin you holiday at Moonta by staying in these cabins.
Give the cabins a big miss - plenty of other lovely places to stay at Moonta Bay.

We booked thinking the last review which was Oct 2021, things may have improved - how wrong were we!!

Absolutely do not recommend. Overpriced and extremely dated with stuff falling apart. Bed linen is not covered properly by the sheets so you are effectively sleeping on a bare duvet which other people will have been also.

Awful experience and paid $140 for the luxury. Tried to contact the company after, Costello Hotels, however had no response. Avoid.

Cabins were clean and functional. Everything you need for your stay at a reasonable cost. 10 minute walk to beach and 20 minute walk to city centre. Would recommend for a get-away weekend. Minor maintenance issues.

Today I drove around yorke Peninsula. Visited lots of places. Loved Moota Bay and Moonta and in particular visited this facility. Had a quick look around _ I will be back. Moonta and Moota bay so full of things to see, places to eat (and view the sea) and places to stay

As a group of 3 fisherman, all aged over 65, we stayed at the Cabins. The cabins were clean, the double bed area was large enough. The second bed area was a bit small with 4 bunks. In fact 1 of our crew elected to move the mattress from the bunk and sleep in the lounge area. The lounge, kitchen and bath area a a comfortable size. Remember to take you own linen, towels, bath floor mat and pillow. There are outdoor table and chairs under a carport type of construction. The beach is about a 10 minute walk if you exit via gate near cabin 4. Moonta Bay jetty is a 3 klm drive and Port Hughes jetty a 2 klm drive. The main street and shopping area of Moonta town is 3 klm from the cabins.
The BBQ areas are a bit small and the free electric hot plates a bit slow. It is disappointing there are no tables or chairs in the BBQ areas. The Fish cleaning area is small and without lighting. 1 or 2 people cleaning fish is ok,but not enough for 3 or more people.
My fellow fisherman spoke with the new owners on site. They have plans to renovate and improve the fish cleaning area and upgrade some of the facilities. We observed maintenance and improvements in progress.
We enjoyed our stay, it represented value for money in a convenient location. We will revisit. We caught Fish and squid from the Moonta Bay Jetty. We loved the Cornish Kitchen Bakery for morning tea and loved the Royal Hotel 2 Ryan Street Moonta and totally recommend the food and service. In addition to the fishing there is lots to visit and see in and around the area. TRY THE CABINS YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR STAY

It is probably possible for a charge, or they might do it at cost for a Sunday night. You’d need to call them
