Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having heard some positive reviews of the Mount Mary Hotel, we decided this would be the location for our regular boys catch up lunch.
2 of us drove up from Adelaide where we met our other 2 High School mates going back 35 years.
The front bar was a mix of things to look at which created some real atmosphere.
We were really impressed with the range of beers and wines available for a hotel of this size.
We settled at the bar for an hour or so to have a few drinks and banter.
When it was time for lunch we ordered and settled in on a table in the corner, next to the sleeping cat who did not seem bothered by us at all.
2 of us went for Parmi's, another for the Scallop Pot pie while the last went for the Seafood basket.
When the basket arrived we all wished we had ordered it, it was so well presented, fresh and my mate said it was some of the best barramundi he had ever had.
Coffees to follow and after about 3 and a half hours it was time to go.
All the staff were very friendly and made for a great country pub dining experience.

What a hidden gem!! Mid solo road trip back from N.T, I pulled up to catch the end of a sunny afternoon n ended up drinking beautiful local wine, ate a gorgeous meal n was well cared for by great staff. I had the best time hanging on the porch with my dog n a passing parade of friendly locals, then threw my swag down in the free bush camp opposite the hotel. Perfect!!!

If you are heading to or from the Riverland/Adelaide and can muster up a big appetite, do yourself a favour and satisfy it at the Mt Mary Hotel which, as their business card says, is ‘a little bit of the outback’! It’s extremely rough and ready and rustic - and has excellent fresh food! We’re struggling to think of where we’ve had a better schnitzel in the last few years and the oysters were so big, plump and juicy (exactly the same description we’d give to the fantastic schnitzels incidentally!).
A couple of comments: the wine list is out of date so you really just have to go by what you can see in the fridge. Shouldn’t be hard to print out some new sheets of paper with the current wines???
And they need some Tabasco available to go with the oysters.
But against the high quality of the pub food, those were minor ‘issues’ for us.

Oh my goodness. There you are in amongst the trees over the dusty road from this hotel free camping not having a clue what is in store for you. What a totally wonderful experience it is to have a drink and dinner here. The dinner was divine (I had camel curry) with salad and chips. Mouth wateringly superb meal thanks to Donna’s skills. This is a food destination for everyone. Friendly family atmosphere, hospitality galore, topped off by one of the best dinners in a long long time. Thanks Donna!

Excellent meal and beer. Great friendly staff and service. Lovely quite historical location not to far out of the way. I'll most certainly be back for future visits. Great roads for a motorcycle road trip which was the object of today's adventure.

Headed into this pub wanting to wash a little Thiele Highway dust off my tonsils whilst driving from Adelaide to Barmera. Ordered a pint of pale (as you do in SA) and sat outside on a glorious sunny winter's arvo. Found myself chatting with a couple of locals and enjoyed the experience immensely. It's probable that you could find similar instances of outback Australian pub 'kulcha' in plenty of other places however this was exactly what I wanted at the right time in the right place. Country travel in Oz rarely gets better.

Mt Mary Hotel is out of the way, which adds to its quaintness. It has a hedge at the front and once you walk through it you enter into a small and lovely green garden, where you can sit and enjoy a drink.

The food was really good, my husband had the Mutton Pie, which is cooked for 5 days (!) the filling was soft and tender. I believe that you have to book in for dinner, friends organised this for us.

The kids really enjoyed our visit, as they had a jukebox and old school video games for them to play.

The owners were friendly and happy to chat.

Overall a lovely night out and would highly recommend.

Decided to go for a drive and ended up at Mt Mary. Have driven past there so many times and never stopped. It is out in the middle of nowhere which also adds to the charm. Walking in there, the first thing you notice is all that great paraphernalia hanging off every square inch of wall and ceiling. It's just nice to drop in for a quick wine and a chat, and speaking of wine they have nice wines there unlike so many places which serve average stuff. The owners were away on holiday but I was made feel welcome and I'm looking forward to going back one day with a group of my mates and try their meals which sounded interesting and generally enjoy the whole experience
