Epi Island Guesthouse is owned by a couple from Australia who have created a self-sufficient, idyllic retreat. Surrounded by beautiful garden and fronting on its own private bay, the setting could not be any better. On this picturesque little bay is also a small gazebo on stilts -- the perfect place to enjoy a book in seclusion, and listen to the waves of the ocean. If this wasn't enough, there is also a second private beach, a short walk away, with another beach house on stilts -- complete with a daybed and couch (or if you want, you can actually spend the night here), with another building containing washroom and cooking facitilies. Just steps into the water is a profusion of healthy soft corals, and lots of colourful fish.
The guesthouse is beautifully constructed with very comfortable guest accommodation. The front veranda is the perfect place to lie on large divans reading, or socializing. The home is filled with various art work and sculptures from around the world that our hosts travelled to.
Alex, our hostess, was gracious and prepared all our delicious meals. The food here is often made from the vegetables in her garden and local, fresh ingredients. In addition to preparing excellent meals, she was able to arrange transport for us, check our air schedule, and arrange for a guide to take us to a local waterfall.
They are within a 15-min walk to the Valesdir airstrip, but if you are coming fro Lamen Bay, it's a 1.5 hr ride on a very rough road, including a few river fordings. It may be impassable if it's rained recently. Also note that flights to Valesdir may be cancelled if the airstrip is wet.
We would love to go back one day, having found Paradise here!

The Epi Island Guesthouse is truly a destination that visitors will remember forever! From the minute you step onto the soft, lush grass lawn you feel welcome and loved by the Guesthouse's wonderful hosts Alix and Rob. The guesthouse is rife with western amenities such as beautiful private hot showers (designed artfully by Rob himself!), luxurious beds, a full kitchen, wifi, reading library, an enormous daybed, etc (I could go on and on!).
Getting there is half the fun! Local flights form Port Vila to Epi depart maybe twice a week, and offer stunning views of both islands from above before landing you on a lush green runway of Epi's "Airport"...you feel like a real adventurer!
Whether you're traveling alone, as a couple, or in a group, Alix and Rob are a perfect mix of friendly, helpful, and respectful. You can visit the nearby Sara village for a taste of the local culture, swim in one of Epi's beautiful waterfalls, or simply waste away the day on the daybed or in their private cove or beach. An amazing truck ride can be arranged to visit neighboring villages, and to a very special beach where lucky swimmers might be able to swim with a local celebrity - a Manatee!
All in all I've never been to a place like the Epi Island Guesthouse. The food is freshly picked and harvested from their own farm and gardens, and every piece of timber has been milled from local trees. It's truly ecotourism at it's finest.
Do yourself a favor and book immediately!!!!

Epi Guesthouse is such an incredible and comfortable place to stay to unwind and relax. The immaculately handcrafted house is perfect for lazing about, with an endless supply of fresh coconuts, beautiful swimming spots & to top it all off Rob and Alix are amazing hosts. Absolutely recommended to anyone that is looking for a secluded retreat. Just a short cheap flight from Port Vila.

I have stayed at the Epi Guesthouse for a week. Of all places I have been to in Vanuatu and even the whole world this was the most special. Epi island is very beautiful! It is the most green island I have been to and It made me feel relaxt and safe from the moment the little plane landed.
The guesthouse is like a little peace of heaven, the wooden house made me feel at home directly!
I the daytimes, Rob and Alix took me out on a reef walk, snorkel trip (where I saw turtles, octopus and heaps of colorful fish), kayak trip (with dolphins!!) and a amazing hike through the bush, over hills and along the beach. In the evenings they took me down to there private beach where we had diners, wine and bonfires under the stars.
Not only the guesthouse but also the company and good care of Rob and Alix made this pace special. Rob is a amazing, lovingly, creative man which build this house all by himself. Rob, thank you for all your wonderful conversations and all your tours and lessons in the gardens. Alix is an amazing host and cook who is spending most of the day in the kitchen, experimenting on amazing recipes and making the house smell like home. Thank you Alix for your kindness and all cooking lessons.
I wish you lots of love and all the best. I hope more people get to experience this wonderful place.

I recently had the chance to stay at Epi Island Guest House. The house itself is a wonderful place to relax and be entertained by the caretaker Ian Rhodes. A wall of books greated me as I entered and iIthought 'this is my sort of place'. Yet the books did not hold me for long as I found a spot on one of the day beds and spent many happy hours watching the tides. Just a short walk to a beautiful beach complete with shade and setting and corol reef for snorkling. Epi Island is a truely stunning place and the gueat house provides a great place to stay for a night or a month. I loved my time there and would highly recommend a stay if you want to really get away from it all.

What can I say- what a great experience! A scenic flight adventure to Valesdir, a short walk (or maybe a lift in the only vehicle) to Rob and Alix's amazing guest house. Beautiful location, private beach nearby, great meals and fantastic hosts. Make the effort, you'll be glad you did

Rob & Alix have created a very special and ecologically responsible guesthouse on this remote, yet easily accessible island. This is the perfect place to experience true sustainability in a pristine environment established before eco-tourism became fashionable. So many things to see and do - beautiful white sand beaches, waterfalls, jungle treks, swimming with Dugongs at Lamen Bay. Enjoy freshly grown organic home produce prepared by Alix - with careful consideration given to dietary requirements. A wonderful place to enjoy warm hospitality and to truly interact with the natural surroundings and cultural experience of the island itself.

More of a homestay than a guest-house, we enjoyed 2 days of wonderful hospitality from Alix and Rob in their amazing home, built by Rob from mostly local materials. Great character; amazing cooking, 'effortlessly rustled up' by Alix using organic produce from their garden; the luxury of a nice bathroom and hot water after cold bucket showers; very entertaining conversations with Rob, and an interesting insight into the difficulties of obtaining supplies not available locally when the supply ship arrived. It's easy to sit/lie for hours on the daybeds on the expansive colourful verandah, listening to the sound of the sea a few metres away.

This is the thrid time I have stayed with Alix and Rob and have enjoyed each visit enormously. The food is great, the rooms comfortable and their library of books and music (records, CDs) is splendid. Even being able to chill on the veranda reading when it is raining is a calming experience. As this was a buisness trip we used a charter flight and as we flew away from the guesthouse Alix could be seen waving us goodbye from the front veranda -thanks Alix and Rob for a really good time and next time we will be there for longer.

This is my sixth trip back to Epi Island Guest House and each time is as wonderful as the first! The guest house is situated in the most beautiful garden setting, surrounded by coconut covered hills and you feel so relaxed from the minute you arrive. Very comfortable rooms and nothing is too much trouble for your hosts Alix & Rob.
Having a private beach with not a soul around, there are big queen size day beds to lie in the shade or relax on a hammock when you are not snorkelling or swimming.
The food is fantastic and there is always great conversation around the hand carved table. I would highly recommend a holiday here.
