Detailed Reviews
We stayed here as a family for the new year in the building which does not house the pool but is closer to the slopes. The room faced the valley not the road so we ate lunch on the balcony overlooking the snowless slopes.
This type of accommodation is very continental. It is self catering and geared to people who are driving and will arrive with a box of cleaning materials, their own groceries, toilet paper, and towels and go home with them at the end of the week. The cleaning thing is as French as garlic and if you are uncomfortable with the previous occupant doing the cleaning prior to your arrival and you doing the same this is not the style of accommodation for you.
The reception does not operate as a hotel reception and is really only there for you to check in and check out. It helps to be polite and speak some French.Having stayed in a couple of the MGM blocks and some other this is a high standard for such accommodation.
The cleaning thing is well flagged but it is easier just to pay the cost for them to clean the apartment after you go as it takes the stress away. You don't have to be present when the inspection is being done.It takes 10 minutes to strip the beds and throw the lot into the bath,
The cost is relative. Over the new year you will pay approximately 50% less than staying in a hotel or chalet of equivalent standard. If you can bring some towels, and basic stuff such as dishwasher tabs, dishcloth, cleaning stuff and toilet roll it will make it easier.
We have stayed here in the summer as well as winter and found it particularly suited to families with small children as everything is close.
We liked:
-Traditional Savoyard-lots of wood in the building.
-Rooms are small by UK standards but normal to large by French resort standards.
- Pool and sauna are great for a relaxing dip after a days skiing
-300m to the lift.
-The Skiset shop with very helpful staff is half way and while not ski-in ski out is close enough to return for lunch. If its sunny you can have lunch on your balcony.SkiSet prefer that you leave your skis and boots in the shop on the way back to the apartment which is very handy.
- Good bakery in the village 500m away open from before 8am.
- There is a sherpa convenience store in the shopping complex beside the ski lift and a carrefour accross the road in Chantelmerle. Bring some shopping bags and do a big shop as soon as you get there.
- The kitchen is not great. The oven-microwave is weird. You can however order take away rotisserie chickens/ raclette / tartiflette/pizzas from the shops beside carrefour, Get your patisserie and bread from the bakery and voila you have great French food for when you don't feel like going out.
- Heating is set at high. This place is not cold. Open the windows at night or leave a glass of water beside the heater to put some moisture in the air.
Dislikes
Wifi €30 for the week for the first device. 3 devices for €25.
Small tv.
Towels are small. ask for more- they don't always charge.
- Rooms are tight by UK standards for 5/6 people.
- No games room for kids in our building. They can go over to reception when it is open where there is a pool table

We went 2 adults and 2 children(3&1). Appt is a v good size. Bedrooms roomy. 2 bathrooms and another separate loo. Lots of space on super hot radiators/towel dryer for ski gear. Dragged kids on sledge to and from village/slopes all day (5mins). Excellent resort.
Only problem was noisy adults upstairs functioning at completely different times from us so I made a complaint. We didn't hear them again.
Swimming pool was handy but changing rooms freezing!
I will question paying the €70 cleaning fee if we went again. Having payed to have the appt cleaned by professionals you are asked to: strip all beds and put linen in the bath, remake all beds with pillows and counterpains(not new linen) totally clean kitchenette and fridge, put your rubbish out. This annoyed me. We had to leave at 5am with two little ones which is why I payed the €70. I basically cleaned the place myself...Phaps they should lower the cleaning fee as you have to do 50% yourself!

We have now stayed at the Rocher Blanc five times and have been lucky to be able to request the same apartment through Lagrange in the UK direct. We are always given a warm welcome by Fabrice the manager for whom nothing is too much bother. As the prices are reasonable we push the boat out and rent an apartment for 6 so we have a bedroom and bathroom each. This means we have a spacious kitchen, dining, living area. This apartment is at the side overlooking the stream so it is delightfully quiet. On sunny afternoons after skiing it is great to sit outside with a cuppa, listening to the stream and the birds while watching the gondola climb up the Luc Alphand slope. For us the apartments are in a perfect location as it is a short walk to the lifts, the ski shop (Regis - excellent service) where we leave our skis overnight, and to the shops, restaurants and bars. The main road from where you catch the ski bus to the other villages is a stone's throw from the apartments too. The swimming pool has been retiled and looks bright and inviting if a little cool but once you start on your laps you soon warm up. The steam room and sauna are great for easing aching limbs and a half hour massage mid way through your visit is a great way to revitalise your skiing legs (payable extra but well worth it).

Whilst these apartments are great value and well located in a decent resort, they unfortunately let themselves down with some easy to fix issues.
The good stuff: we had a four bedroom apartment for 8 people and it felt spacious. The decor was rustic, no frills, inoffensive. The block was quiet with no noise at all from other apartments. Nice view of the river. Reasonable selection of pots and pans, coffee machine, kettle, toaster. Places to put food.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Swimming pool is nice and clean, although absolutely freezing, in particular the changing rooms, to the extent that most of our party didn't use it.
Free underground parking if there is space - we had no problem in January.
Could improve:
The cleaning policies in place leave a lot to be desired. The fact that cleaning comes at an additional cost is unusual these days, and raised concerns about the thoroughness of the cleaning process between stays. Upon our arrival, it was evident that our apartment had not been professionally cleaned as we had expected (There was fluff and dog hair all up the stairs, and the shower had grime and hair all round the tray.). The management reacted well and sent a cleaner the next morning, although they only addressed some of the issues. We certainly weren't inclined to incur additional costs for cleaning services for the benefit of the next guests.
The whole set-up is confusing, with vague mentions in the paperwork about tasks like cleaning windows and mopping floors. These tasks were visibly neglected before our arrival, leading to uncertainty about our responsibilities. We've never had to do these things at any other properties. Despite the paperwork, reception assured us that only the kitchen needed cleaning, which seemed reasonable.
We'd prefer to pay slightly more to have the knowledge that cleaning is included for all guests.
One of the bedrooms had no wardrobe and there was a locked wardrobe on the landing which couldn't be used.
Some useful info:
There is no direct access from the car park to the blocks, so a luggage trolley or sack truck is quite useful.
The ski lockers don't have heated boot warmers, and are not in the best location. We ended up paying to rent a ski locker at the gondola station which was good value and very much easier. This is not essential, but a useful option.
The walk is fairly short (300 meters?) and importantly flat so this is not a major issue.

Dear customer, We took your comment into account and we thank you for this thorough description of our services. As a Résidence de Tourisme type of resort (we do not think there is an actual translation for this specific activity in our field) we do feel necessary to be distinguished from other entities such as traditionnal hotels. We do offer a cleaning service provided an extra, otherwise, it is expected of our customer to proceed to the cleaning of the apartment. Overall, we do feel like you enjoyed your stay, both for the location of our resort and the prices we can offer for our accommodations. We would love to welcome you once again in one of our numerous resorts, all over France ! Regards. Charlie - Customer Service

Arrived at apartment complex looked beautiful at first. we hired an apartment which slept 6. 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and pull out sofa sleeping 2, perfect for 6 women however what started as a good experiencing quickly turned into hell.
1. Not enough linen per person, linen also had stains on.
2. Apartment was not clean, we had to clean everything again on our first day.
3. Reception staff and management were extremely rude from start to finish, giving no explanation to where things were, opening times or equipment usage.
4. Swimming pool was extremely cold.
5. Equipment was in an external underground building quite a walk from apartment complex.
6. Tried to squeeze as much money out of you as possible.
7. Reception was only open for short periods of time during day, so if a problem arose there was no way of contacting anyone.
We spoke to management once during stay to hand over card details in case of damage, none was caused. So when I saw they had charged €70 for cleaning I was surprised, we had cleaned so much during our stay apartment looked better after we left then before!! After emailing company direct we were told to email hotel direct to which we received no response from, we than emailed company again and was told that we were charged this money due to noise complaints and maid service!!!! They stated they cleared this with us before we left, we received no warnings and no inspection of apartment. Le Hameau du Rocher Blanc scammed us! Do not stay here and if you do please please please take photo evidence before leaving apartment!!!!

I read the reviews on here before booking and therefore did not fall for the parking scam. However I would echo the comments of the previous reviewer regarding the cleaning at the end of stay. I have stayed in all sorts of places across the Alps and never had to make an appointment for someone to come and inspect the apartment before leaving. They give you a list with jobs that have to be completed including sweeping and mopping all the floors, putting the duvets and covers on in a certain way, cleaning the bathrooms etc. I expect to leave the place tidy but this was over the top. Whilst you clean, they hover tutting and offering to clean for you for a fee, in our case, of 85 Euros. The place was not clean at all on arrival.
All of which takes the shine of the stay, the premises are nice and with the 4 bed duplex we had, a very pleasant apartment, but I will not be returning purely because they treated us so shabbily.

We stayed in Le Hameau du Rocher Blanc in January 2012 and while the place was warm and clean and very well proportioned. The appliances where all clean and in great working order, every apartment had a flat screen, albeit it a tiny 19". For size cleanliness and warmth, the place would get 5 out of 5. However.
By the end of the week, all of the little things where really annoying to me. The place felt like it was run by Ryanair, every extra penny that could be squeezed out of us, was.
Ski lockers are available........in another building from the one we where staying in!
Parking: we paid €100 for 2 cars prior to arrival, got there and found out that parking was free.
1 towel per person for a week but they are happy to offer you a second towel for €6.
WIFI to be paid for and only available in the lobby of another building. There is no reason for WIFI not to be available in every apartment.
Non-existing discounts on lift passes. Their site advertises discounts on early booking of ski passes, we booked 4 months in advance and paid the same price as we would have on the day we arrived.
Every apartment our group stayed in got busted for a cleaning charge for a variety of flimsy reasons.
Staff who answered the phone while speaking to you, seemed generally uninterested and aloof.
Tourist tax gets added at the end of you trip, felt like just another stealth tax. When we booked the apartment we booked it for a certain number of people for a certain number of nights, why could we not have been shown the tourist tax charge then?
The tourist tax was small and we would have to pay it regardless of where we stayed, but it just felt like another sneaky way to jack up the price, in the end we paid over 20% on top of our original quote in either stealth or unnecessary charges.
We won't be returning to Le Hameau du Rocher Blanc.

We paid over £11k for 7 adults and 2 children over xmas 14 for 1 week. We asked for and expected, if not luxury, really comfortable accommodation with all mod cons like an oven!
There was nowhere to sit, one wooden chair and a hard sofabed. we could not sit in comfy chairs after dinner, play games and have a glass of wine, it was just so uncomfortable.
We were in self catering but had only a microwave, no oven, which could if you were psychic grill and roast but it would have had to be a flat turkey. The kitchen had absolutely no cooking equipment, so we had to eat out more than we wanted to, the exact opposite of our two families. intentions' and budget. The working surface in the "kitchen" is 2 feet by 12 inches - literally! We were completely unable to celebrate xmas day at home, as we had planned, having brought recipes, decorations and crackers with us!
When we arrived, late at night with two small children, having been told on the phone that reception would be closed and no one would greet us, we had to search the complex to find our block. There were no shops open but no one had left a "welcome pack" for us - pretty basic customer service There was no soap to wash our hands, water or a bottle of milk, and we had to make up all the beds, for which there were not enough sheets. There was no washing machine in the flat, no window or ventilation working in the one loo.
After we had all unpacked, we were informed that the flat we should have been in from the outset ( with two bathrooms) would be available the next day after a plumbing issue had been sorted, no offer of help was received to move all our stuff, make beds again, empty fridge etc, another few hours wasted not on the slopes.
In the new flat we had no hot water for 5 days in one bathroom and although it was reported, the manager said as it was xmas he could do nothing.
The pool is filthy, the grouting is covered with black mould and even more astonishing there are no towels and you are expected to pay extra to use the sauna!!
The pool table was not working when we wanted it, nor was the lift when we had to move 11 bags of luggage up 3 flights of stairs from the carpark.
La Grange tried to charge us E100 to park our two cars (despite us paying for an inclusive trip), the manager kindly rescinded the demand due to our evident annoyance about so many things.
When we asked where the onsite laundry was, the reception desk looked amazed and said this purpose built complex of self catering appts had no washing facilities, let alone drying. So kids playing in the snow was a no-no as we could not dry their clothes in time for the next day's skiing. Doesn't anyone wash clothes in France?
There is no wifi, so reception advised we apply for an outside wifi service - E30 for 3 devices per week. so we did go through all this nonsense and then only one phone worked at a time on wifi. It was like living in the 50's!! Reception said they would call the wifi company on our behalf but this never happened.
The manager was a nice man who gave us a garlic press, booked a restaurant for us and seemed overworked.
BUT the owners of this place are cheapskates and this is only suitable for students or young families on a tight budget who expect a very limited standard in every aspect of their accommodation- and the price should reflect the poor standards. Our holiday was a very expensive disappointment .
Good skiing, nice instructors, lovely French neighbours.
We booked through The Flight Centre who clearly oversold this place and they booked through Neilsons whose main worry was that their brochure had been inaccurate, which we nev er saw.

Having in stayed in Le Hameau du Rocher Blanc in January 2014 we were expecting a mediocre stay based on the reviews posted on TripAdvisor.
Our negative experience of the hotel:
Un hygenic kitchen, bathroom and sheets (which you had to put on yourself)
The hotel was a 10 minute walk from the slopes, but with skis this was a pain.
The swimming pool was cold
The town was fairly bland with nothing really going on
The hotel staff were not helpful.
The ski locker is in a poor condition with holes in the walls, rotten smells and poor lighting.
And my number one gripe:
On arrival back in the UK they had secretly charged us a fee to clean the room. The room was spotless, we actually bought special cleaning products to make sure we didnt get this charge. When we went to reception to get an inspection no one was available so we assumed all is well. Having complained to the hotel and hotel owner we have received no response other than to contact our Ski Rep
LOOK OUT FOR THESE HIDDEN CHARGES.

Ok you just spend your first day at le Hameau. Just breathe, relax, enjoy the view, try to focus on your happy place. Keep in mind the good stuff: you are really just steps away from the main gondola or the toddler's ski pen, all restaurants offer decently priced cheese-based plates, plenty of ski related shopping options, a fairly decent nightlife and best of all, Serre Chevalier itself! Just forget that you had to chase down the maintenance guy (designated cleaning staff on a saturday evening) at 8pm to try to get some sheets for the bedroom and towels; all that to figure out that he gave you all singles whereby you need queen, and that there would be one towel for every two guest. Put in your mind's forget compartment that there is absolutely nothing in the apartment other than a crooked pan, a knife and a quarter roll of TP and 4 chairs for a capacity of 6 (PS: bring every basic necessity: rag, paper towel, dish liquid, sponge, salt, garbage bags etc). Just dont bother understanding the logic of renting two units at the same time (9 months in advance) and being offered to have them at complete opposite ends of the complex. And why would you even complain of having to wait until 7pm to get your room's keys, fighting for staff attention amongst the other 40 tired families trying to settle in? Do not question having to beg front office staff for an extra garbage bag or more TP. After all why would you need more? it is your problem you throw out 2-3 diapers daily or have 6 human beings in the apartment! Just reuse or recycle or use public WC!
All in all, it will cost you an arm and a leg to book during high season, like serious luxury hotel money for something akin to a crappy backdoor airport hotel. Lagrange Vacances does not even remotely try to match their product and services to the price they demand or should i say ransom they get from you. I do sincerely hope they eventually get investigated for consumer fraud or false advertisement or even simply get their official tourism rating downgraded. Be aware when you book, you need to be (very) low maintenance or have little expectations and just focus that you are in one of the best skying places in the world.

Bonjour, oui les remontées sont assez proches, la piste Luc Alphand est à proximité.
