Grand Hotel is located at the heart of Serre Chevalier (Chantemerle), some 15 minutes away from Briancom (with medieval city centern and many castles/bastions).

There are numerous sking areas located close by: Serre Chevalier (1 min), Montgenevere (30 min), Puy St. Vincent (45 min), Risoul/Vars (1h) and Deux-Alpes (1h).

Grand Hotel extremely well located and is 1 minute (50 meters) away from the cabin station.

Hotel features standard and superior rooms. Both rooms are well quipped, nice and clean - but little bit small in size. We had hard time to figure where to put our luggages. Our superior room had a small coach/bed - which when opened would have fullfilled the floor totally. Rooms have separate toilet and bathroom (with bath), fridge (with non-alcoholic drinks), TV and extraordinary fast internet. We were on the 4th floor and had nice balcony with chairs to the sunny side.

There is fully stocked rental (good equpment) in the hotel and hotel provides lift tickets (if you plan to visit other ski locations, please remember to ask your receipt to get free day tickets included in your galaxie ski card - they forget to give us those and had hard time to get the included Montgenevere day pass).

There is a bar and set menu restaurant on the second floor. Bar is fully stocked, serves great coctails and excellent tapas portions (try the house wine - goid value for money). The restaurant upstairs has set menu (starters, main course, desert) which did not change during the week - you have five options each to choose from (it got little bit biring, as some of us har half board for six days).

The restaurant on the second floor serves the breakfast, which is excellent and has loads to choose from.

Street level there is another bar/restaurant that serves more traditional food (day time) and fondues/racklettes on the evenings (we were able to orde ”day portions” on the evenings, which was great). There is also outside patio to enjoy the afternoon sun/after ski (the patio on sexond floor is nicer, but they do not have any service on the afternoon). Their racklette is excellent (pity they did not serve Pierrade hot stone - it would make the restaurant superb choice).

The staff is extremely friendly and helpfull. They are good in english. There is even ”properly” stocked shop in the lobby, with extremely helpfull staff (handles also the rentals). We left our skis to be serviced after skiing day, and those were returned to our skiloccer next morning - and it was reasonably priced (as is the rental from the hotel).

There is both outsideparking and garage available. Those are limited in space, so you better to reserve a slot in advance.

The skiloccers are excellent, can be locked and dry your boots.

Then the bad:
- spa costs 10€/h additional. And it is extremely small so you need to book your time slot in advance (room has bathrope and slippers)
- there was shortage of skiloccer keycards and we needed to ask staff to open the skiloccer doors
- the restaurants has different prices for same things as the restaurant on sexond floor, which we found strange.
- And they do not have wine bottleopener in the room - rhank god, we brought our own...😂

We will definately return to this hotel !

The Grand Hotel is located in Chantemerle, the heart of the Serre Chevalier Valley. There's no better place for your base. Each day, you can choose a sector to ski or I guess in the summer to hike. Choosing another sector only adds to your schlep factor. But that's not all. The Grand Hotel is less than 50 meters from the main gondola! Loved the hotel. It's recently modernized and its rooms and facilities certainly earn its 4 star. The staff was friendly, capable, and spoke English. Lovely. My wife and I enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners included in our half-board accommodations. Even the parking was free. Look no further, friends.

This 4-star hotel is well-located across from the chairlift in St Chaffrey, in the valley of Serre Chevalier, 10 minutes' drive from Briançon. Rooms are comfortable, generally calm and the breakfast is scrumptious! On-site ski-hire and availability of ski passes make any stay hassle-free. Lunch and evening meals can also be taken in the excellent restaurant - or in the bar, with its open fire. Try the tapas one evening - much better than the average. Summer stays are also good, with great walking available in the valley for all levels. The outside pool is open during the summer and the small spa is a relaxing way to end the day any time of year.

Me and my partner were very excited to get to know this hôtel. We knew the spa was going to be closed due to the covid19 crisis, but still we were expecting a very good stay... After all, we did payed almost 400€ for two nights..
Well arriving there, the room was very very tiny, even for a couple ! The door of the bathroom was brooken. After paying 400€ you will be expecting something better..
The Windows were not sound proof, so all night we heared the loud music of the closest bar.
And if that wasnt't enough, we could not sleep because of the heat in the room ! It was very very hot and we could not open thé window because of the loud music !
After all of this we were still planning to enjoy the pool at least, but all we found was a ridiculously small pool, always crowded with children so impossible to enjoy and relax.
In our last day there, while I was in my room working on my laptop before joinning my partner, two girls of housekeeping knoked at my door and told me they had to do the cleening, I asked them if they could pass later because I was working and their answer was "no, because we will go out in 15min", I understood so told them that it was ok if they didn't do it that day, the room was not dirty, but they told me they had to do it, they were very rude by the way. They literaly kicked a client out of a room.. Had to work from the hall the time they were cleaning the room.
And to the grand finale, when checking out the morning after, we did our best to be nice but at least we had to talk about the heat felt in the room. One older woman in the front desk very rudely just told us that the heat is normal, and because is summer time and everybody is hot everywhere!... What ??
And that it was normal because we got a room without air conditioning (that when we booked clearly said with air conditioning). Not a single apology was given ! The woman just acted like it was not her business.. Outrageous !
The only positive points in our stay was the location of the hôtel ! And the restaurant on the 1 floor is alright, but not amazing.
So very expensive hôtel, but not worth it. Very bad management.

Dear customer, Thanks for choosing Grand Hôtel Serre Chevalier and for taking time to share your comment. We are really sorry to read that your experience was not up to your expectation. I regret that you have been inconvenienced by the noise from the nearby bar outside. Our hotel enjoys an exceptional location in Chantemerle, which offers many activities appreciated by the vast majority. I'm surprised by your remarks regarding the heat in the room. Usually nights are cold in the mountains, none of our rooms have air conditioning. Finally, you should have let us know that the door of your bathroom as broken so that we could have fixed it. Remaining at your entire disposal on this email adress : welcome@grandhotel.fr and looking forward to welcoming you back in better conditions, Yours sincerely, Alexandra Berger -General Manager

This hotel is ok but didn't live up to our expectations. On the positive side, the staff in the reception was friendly and welcoming, the room was spacious with a huge bed and the view on the surrounding mountains was nice. For a summer holiday, it's nice with a swimming pool and a terrace. The location is perfect considering the closeness to different activities. On the negative side, the room was on the top floor under the roof and therefore really hot with no AC, we slept badly due to the heat, the provided fan didn't help really... We mentioned it at the checkout and the staff was not surprised, it's a bit disappointing they sell those rooms for such a high price knowing it's too hot. The street outside is very noisy, mostly due to the bar on the other side playing music loudly and pretty much constantly. Delivery trucks in the morning also made a lot of noise, the room not being soundproof. All in all, the stay didn't provide us with the relaxing vibe we had expected. Breakfast was ok but a bit limited.

Dear Guest, We thank you for your review. Thank you for talking about our staff, the mountain views that some of our rooms provide, and the facilities. We are deeply sorry that you spent a bad night on the room of the top floor : indeed, generally in our valley the temperature goes down to 12°C during summer nights, but it is true that we had a heatwave during this beggining of month. Now, concierning the outside noises, we are once again, very sorry for that and we hope to have the opportunity to show you that this situation remains exceptional. If, despite your disappointment, you place your trust in us again, we would be very happy to take care of your reservation personally. We hope we will have the chance to welcome you again in better conditions. Best Regards,

Restaurant visit to Planches. The area we were seated was cold. We were offered blankets….The meal itself was enjoyable if somewhat confusing in its presentation (duck with wok vegetables was presented as a small plate with some duck, and a separate plate with veg). What spoilt it was the table next to ours which apparently had the master chef checking on his reputation. Bringing the kitchen staff into the restaurant to give them a half hour dressing down in front of paying guests is NOT professional and created an awkward atmosphere. The staff looked deflated and miserable.

Dear David20051, I read with a great attention your comment regarding your past stay with us. I am happy to hear that you found the Grand Hotel & Spa Nuxe pleasant. However, I was really disappointed by the comments regarding the noise disturbances. Here is why : You stayed with us on July the 15th. I do know this since it was the only day in the year on which a band played outside the hotel. Because of bad weather conditions, Serre Chevalier celebrated the 14th of July on the 15th... So what you heard was the concert for our national party. As you can imagine, such a party takes place only once a year. We anticipated this event by offering our guests some earplugs if they needed them. As you understood, this situation is an exception and not the rule at the Grand Hotel. In any case, I am truly sorry that the music prevented you from sleeping and I perfectly understand your disappointment. I do hope that you will give us another chance to show you that you can get a good night sleep in a very quiet environment at the Grand Hotel. I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel and I invite you to contact me so that I may personnaly organise your next stay with us. Kind regards, Alexandra Berger Hotel Manager

This shouldn’t be called the grand hotel. Mediocre hotel would be more appropriate, but still too generous. The service staff aren’t particularly interested in enhancing your stay. The spa costs 15 Euro just to gain entry - not what you would expect from any hotel, let alone a spa hotel.
Our room was at the street side, which meant we weren’t able to sleep before midnight, due to the noisy bars opposite. Hot water isn’t always available in the room, on two occasions we had to wait more than 30 minutes just to take a shower.

We were told that breakfast started at 7.30, but when we arrived for breakfast, the cooked breakfast food wasn’t available until 8am. Maybe the staff don’t arrive until 7.30? Not ideal if you’re planning to ski early in the day.

The hotel restaurant room is always cold. We wore jumpers to dinner, but should probably have taken our coats.

Menu translation is appalling, making it almost impossible to know what you are ordering. We ended up playing food roulette.

Lack of storage in the rooms.

No bath

Tv doesn’t work

No shaver socket in the bathroom

On the third night of our stay, the kitchen caused the fire alarms to go off for almost an hour. Followed by technical fault with the alarm = another night of ruined sleep. I only know that the problem stemmed from the kitchen because I repeatedly questioned the hotel reception girl who appeared to find the fact that a fire alarm had woken the guests, absolutely hilarious.

Most definitely will not stay here again.

The bar area and the table were lovely. Beautifully dressed and cosy but overall it was underwhelming and definitely not worth the price tag. We waited quite a while for cocktails and once seated dinner was slow, too slow leaving us craning our necks trying to get the waitress attention. Most of dinner our glasses were empty and plates absent. The Christmas set menu with wine paring was €95 + €35 and the kids €40.
Their menu was opening with foie gras, they definitely had mousse de foie gras instead which is quite different and cheaper. Our kids know the difference and felt cheated. They loved their 'poularde' (bit on the dry side) with mash but even with dessert it was a bit basic for €40 and a set menu.
Our food was more elaborate but took forever to arrive and servings were ridiculously dated as 'nouvelle' : 1 (one!) slice of duck breast as the main meat... And only 3 small glasses of wine served as pairing..1 organic had turned and gone fizzy...
It was replaced but still it was 'meh' at best. Even with a flute of '' complimentary'' champagne with dessert the whole evening left us disappointed with a slightly bitter aftertaste... Altogether with 1 cocktail, 1 glass of chardonnay, 1 juice and a mocktail tab at aperitif the bill was nearly €400 for the four of us... Gag! Was it except good?
No
Was it worth €130 pp in France?
Definitely Not worth it.
We might return for after ski coffee as the bar is lovely.

We have been spending our july vacations in the Brianon/Serre Chevalier area for the past 7 years. We have consequently seen, little by little, the Grand Hotel loose its allure...this until last year when a complete remake has been done. This year we have tried it. It is a very nice hotel freshly refurbished with up to date high quality forniture. It has outside swimming pool, nice restaurant, good cuisine and bar. Service is kind, the place is clean, WIFI is fast and free, there is also a NUXE SPA. The only problem you could possibly have is the size of the rooms. we have been there is summer so not a problem due to light dresses but with many heavy winter cloths you could struggle to find a place where to put them. The access to ski lifts is just a few meters away. On top of all things, the price, at least in summer, is likeable......
