The Alexander Hotel is above Latino's Mexican restaurant. We've stayed here twice now. The first time, we had 2 rooms and the last time we had 6 rooms for 11 people. I love the laid-back atmosphere here. After the restaurant closes, they lock up the bar/kitchen side and the rest of the building is for the guests staying in the...

As mentioned below, this hotel as built in 1899. Question is, what does that mean to you as a guest? Well, lots of things, actually. If you plan to stay there you really should be aware of several things. Old buildings weren't insulated very well, for sound or heat, they didn't have elevators or anything for handicapped folks. Many old...

We stayed here last weekend to attend a wedding in the area. There was a group of people staying down the hall who partied all night at the end of the hall, walking on bare wood floors and steps, drinking, playing dice, etc. By 3:00 in the morning, I poked my head out the door and asked if they could...

We stayed here on the last night of a three week trip out west and decided to check out the reviews on Tripadvisor while a few days out before booking. We liked the reviews and booked a king room. I booked with the owner, but when I called him back two minutes after booking to ask a question about directions,...

We read other reviews on your site, and were very excited to stay at the Alexander Hotel. We arrived at MGregor on a Saturday evening at about 7:00 pm To find that the hotel was nothing like it was described . It was very dirty and run down. One of the reviews on your site talked about hanging out in...

We were recent guests at this hotel and were treated like old friends from the moment we arrived. Sam and Mary Ellen are very hospitable and concerned about your stay. Our room faced the street with a very nice view of the nightlife. We found the food in the restaurant to be excellent and a wide variety. It is a...

My husband and I began our relaxing getaways with this hotel in April of 2006, it has since become our home away from home. The rooms are always clean, comfortable, and peaceful. The food is always top notch. I wish I could recommend one item off of the menu but everything we have ordered, during our stays in these last...

I read previous reviews and looked forward to spending a couple of nights at this nostalgic hotel. I booked two nights Aug 5 and 6. It was a very disappointing experience. It's a shame how this historic hotel has been neglected. There seems to be more emphasis on the bar downstairs than the rooms upstairs. Our room air conditioner was...

My family and I, just the women, go to Iowa twice a year. We love the Alexander Hotel. The hospitality is outstanding. The guy who runs the hotel was married to my mother only after knowing her 2 hours. The cook married the two little love birds. I set up the wedding and we even had live music played by...

“In this old hotel, I'm not sure there is a "good" room or one that's way better than another; after all, it's an older hotel. However, the folks that run it are helpful, so take the time to ask some questions and express your concerns.”
