Spaulding Inn is clean, quiet, and close to the college. The hosts are welcoming and low key. They made the stay easy and pleasant. Breakfast includes Valerie's homemade bread and local jam. A great value for accommodations in Grinnell.

Very Victorian style b&b. Great location in relation to downtown and campus. Great grocery store across the street with prepared foods and general groceries. Clear instructions on getting in and getting keys to doors and rooms. The Burr Oak room is the only room wth it's own bathroom, and has an adjacent bedroom that can create a nice two bedroom...

Valerie was clear with communications so we knew what to do when we arrived and felt "at home." After walking down the block to find dinner in town, we settled in to the beautiful enclosed porch, living room, and dining room with our books and work for the evening. We had to dodge other guests for sharing the bathroom but...

This is our home in Grinnell. It's close to school, close to town, offers a lovely breakfast, and is much better than staying at the hotel chains down the road. Some of the rooms have shared baths; a few have a private bath. The living area is comfortable and quiet.

I had a great night at the Spaulding Inn. The innkeepers sent me clear instructions so I was able to get in even though they weren't there when I arrived. I really appreciated the extra touches, like a bathrobe in the closet, very helpful when using the bathroom down the hall, and the toothpaste in the medicine cabinet. I also...

The Spaulding Inn is so conveniently located. It is preserved in a pristine form and decorated with great attention to detail. However, the steps at the entry way are not very convenient for older individuals or those with disabilities. The home made bread was a dense and a little tough. I also found it wanting in the warmth and hospitality...

A recent trip to Grinnell for a family member's funeral, brought us to this charming B & B. From the time we made the booking, and until the morning of our departure, the owner ( Valerie) made our stay welcoming & comfortable. She fixed delicious breakfast each morning, and filled us in on the history of Spaulding Inn and Grinnell....

If visiting Downtown Grinnell or Grinnell College, very much worth the little bit extra cost to stay in such a nice place and to have a much more authentic experience than staying in a chain motel out by the interstate.

Booked at the last minute for a stop between Northern Iowa and Chicago. I called about 8:30 pm the night before; Valerie booked us for a night quickly and efficiently, and left instructions for us to settle ourselves upon our arrival the next evening about 9:30 pm. Breakfast was prepared and we chatted with Valerie the next morning, heard very...

Valerie and Rick are gracious hosts--we enjoyed casual conversation over breakfast since we were the only guests. They offered a garage to store our cycles overnight, a very nice gesture. Beautiful home...very enjoyable stay!
