I stayed at the Savery because it bills itself as among the most historic hotels in Des Moines. Okay, the building is old, but there is very little historic feel to it. The rooms are fine, the lobby is fine, the location is fine. There is a great free shuttle to the airport -- that's something I can endorse!

Thank you for your response. I appreciate your candor with regards to your stay at the Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel in Des Moines and would agree that many, after staying, wonder about the historic nature of the building. Although we do have an historic property, the Renaissance brand allows us freedom with décor and design, allowing our spaces to...

WOW! The food was fabulous. The restaurant offers unique foods with an incredible flavor. The bread pudding topped it off for desert! You couldn't ask for a better dining experience. The rooms were quality with an interesting flair.

Classic older hotel with modern, clean well-appointed rooms. Comfortable bed, although the pillows could use more substance. Had a wonderful dinner in the Bos Restaurant to celebrate my wife's retirement with friends. Prices were ridiculously affordable given the gourmet quality of the food. Maple-pepper bacon-wrapped scallops for around $20 and a delicious filet for $30. The chef, John Andres, has...

This hotel is classic and beautiful. The rooms are small but the staff is genuine and friendly and the service is outstanding. This is downtown Des Moines which is a great location. The decor is beautiful and there are plenty of amenities. I would stay here again!

We stayed at the Renaissance Savery hotel for a weekend getaway for our anniversary. The hotel was excellent. We had a room on the 5th floor at the end of the hall. It was a bit bigger then some of the other rooms on the floor. The pool area is a bit outdated, but there was nothing wrong with it....

This hotel is an older hotel but it is beautiful. Big city class and service to match. The Bar is beautiful and brings in a nice group of people. Great food and everything in the hotel is clean. Small store for items you may need as well.

This place is in serious need of updating. The carpet in my room was a yellowish color and was bubbling in several locations. The chair and chaise lounge in my room both had nasty stains on them. One of them was really sticky. Yuck. The bathrooms were smaller than the closet and were composed of pedestal sink, toilet, and shower....

Dear Otter2269, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am sincerely sorry that we did not meet your expectations during your stay. Some of the items mentioned are out of our control such as the size of the bathroom. Unfortunately, that goes with being an historic hotel. The cleanliness issues that you described, however,...

The Savery is nice overall. We've stayed before but this time brought our two kids for Cub game. The two double bed room was so small that you could barely walk around the beds. There were test strips left on the floor and a bottle of cleaner left on the tub. The front desk person practically scolded me for booking...

We had a great time and felt spoiled compared to where the other family stayed. Amenities are standard, but the room was crisp, clean and modern. Staff were friendly. It is a short walk to the farmer's market. We walked everywhere downtown, but we are also young and healthy.

I love this hotel, the location and service. But the last 2 times I was here I found the hotel rooms to be a little worn down and in need of a facelift. I don't mind paying for quality but I don't think it's worth the $179 I paid.
