Based on what I’ve heard there’s little doubt about it. The Quarterdeck has an outstanding reputation. Its location is dramatic, especially the main buildings that are nestled on rocks at the edge Summerville Beach. Furthermore, the architecture is equally dramatic and pays tribute to the vernacular architecture of the area. As expected, the view from restaurant is spectacular. Just as impressive is the menu, especially the seafood. The Quarterdeck deserves all the high ratings it has received.
But what about the accommodation? Is it just as outstanding? Let’s begin with the room we were assigned. In my experience, the cost of a room is a good indicator of what is to be expected. A $400 room should be quite different from a $200 room. The former is spacious, the beds and furniture are top class, the bathroom is upscale, and the amenities are top notch. Unfortunately, there are exceptions and our room in the Hilltop building was one of these exceptions. Our $400 room gave us a $200 experience at best. The room was small, not spacious. There was a queen bed with no headboard. I expected two queens or one king, which is typical of a $400 room. The furniture was bargain basement; in fact, the legs on the coffee table were loose making the table unsteady. As for the bathroom, everything was basic, certainly not upscale. For example, there was no counter space whatsoever, which made even simple activities awkward. And the amenities were equally basic – entry-level microwave and coffee maker, paper plates, wooden utensils. All of this for $400 a night and no breakfast service at the restaurant. For my wife and I, this was definitely a low of our recent stay at the Quarterdeck.

I spent last weekend at No 5 Beachside Villa and was VERY pleased with the whole event. I was told when I booked that the villas were all getting updated over the winter, and it seems they were!
Our villa was lovely, upstairs and down, and well appointed. Although I did bring some provisions of my own, everything we needed was there. And if we needed anything, all we had to do was call reception and they delivered. They are there 24/7. I requested champagne flutes, extra towels and facecloths for my extra guests and extra ice. All were provided with a smile. The villa was cleaned each morning, bedding changed and all garbage cleared out to receive new guests.
The diner. Every one of our meals over the weekend was delicious. The fish and chips, baked haddock and the fish burger plate were very popular. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, with special call-outs to Mark and Lauren. All around great service, great food and of course, those million dollar views.
Thank you Quarterdeck for hosting a special birthday celebration. We will definitely be back.

When we arrived to check in we were greeted with “move your car it is right in the middle of the parking lot” The parking lot was empty at the time. There was no smile, or other greeting. Not a good start. Facilities such as the pool were inadequate for this size resort. The pool was so small, only suitable for getting wet, certainly not for swimming or sharing with lots of other people. On leaving we requested a later check out. There was no flexibility offered even in low season. When we left the room at regular check out time the housekeeping team were waiting in force outside, circling like vultures Not a good, goodbye. Customer service needs to be improved. Nova Scotians usually do this so well. It was a disappointment and spoiled our stay in this lovely location.

I booked for our family vacation, July 2024 on Hotels.com. Upon reservation I was given the option to "Pay At Property" so I jumped on it. I then carried on booking my rentals and other hotel, flights etc needed.
I then called the property to ask what the "Deposit" would be on check-in. The snarly front desk girl, Emily, who constantly interrupted me, said Nah we have to take a deposit today. I said, no, hotels.com has my credit card and ensured me, I pay at the property.
Emily had her Manger phone me. Before phoning me they called Hotels.com and had their business unactivated so they no longer could be accessed. But, I have a reservation number and receipt.
Jill, the Manger called and explained their policy is a deposit of 1 night on booking. Yes, if I called them directly but I booked thru third party. Seeing as though I already booked everything else for my trip, I didn't have the $465 plus tax ( Yep for 1 night) deposit so she said my reservation would be cancelled. Apparently after a few hours the system would automatically cancel without a deposit. Its 2pm, still hasnt cancelled.... Good thing I called eh? Or I would of really been screwed when I showed up.
So now, part of my trip is ruined because of an issue that was not my fault. Jill said, it's not her problem..While I do agree a policy is a policy, Jill did NOTHING to help me figure something out. She said my option was to pay the deposit or cancel my reservation.
Meanwhile, 12mins down the road is White Point Resort. Pools, playgrounds, fire pits, food, sand beach etc, and for HALF the cost.
They too had a booking on hotels.com and it said pay at property.
So I called and asked how it worked. She said they have certain rooms set aside for third party bookings that people are able to book and pay at property since the third party already has my credit card and has their own cancel policy, the booking is secure. Exactly what I thought.
So now I am booked there, for half the amount, beachside and 12 mins from my childhood beach.
Do better Quarter Deck!!
I should of been offered SOME kind of incentive for the inconvenience I faced with an almost ruined trip. No wonder your bad reviews are almost all bad customer service experiences
But seeing the cleanliness has gone down hill maybe things happen for a reason.

This hotel has way too much hype. We are wildly disappointed and appalled that it costs so much for what it actually is.
The room was small and cold. We had to call to have them bring us a space heater. We stayed for two nights and the cleaners didn’t even take out our dirty dishes (two mugs for morning coffee). They didn’t make the bed and just swapped out the towels. No tidying, no cleaning, no new dishes. (Is it sanitary to wash our own dishes in the bath?). I called and asked for a kettle bc there wasn’t one in the room and they said they didn’t have any. Eventually they brought one but said not to use it for drinking water.
The restaurant was terrible. The service was absolutely embarrassing. When I asked about an item on the menu the server said “it’s as advertised”. The next night we went back and they sat us in the same spot. When we asked to sit down there else they said no. The restaurant was maybe 30% full of that.
Horrible experience. More like a one star hotel and restaurant. Not sure why everyone likes this place. For over $400 a night I would expect more.

So many things to say about this resort. We were worried getting in late we wouldn't have time to see the villa, but since all the thermostats were turned off it was so nice and freezing cold we couldn't get to sleep after our long drive because we had to keep walking around exploring to stay warm. Speaking of warm, if you are worried about being burned in the shower, well forget those fears, because even all the way up the hottest the shower goes is a nice safe luke warm. Worried about not having enough towels, don't fret, housekeeping leaves behind the previous guests used towels on the back of the bathroom door, in case you need them. I wouldn't recommend inspecting the shower too much, unless mildew is your thing! And with such a wonderful stay you can ask for a late checkout at 12 instead of 11....you can ask and they will refuse.....but the restaurant food and staff were quite nice, and the view and beach is lovely, but too bad the service doesn't match...

We went to the Quarterdeck in February 2024. This was a Christmas present from my husband. Poor choice of location for us this time of year. He would normally go to another resort nearby with beach cabins with great fireplaces and an on site lounge with musicians playing in the evening. We found nothing to see or do at the Quarterdeck in the winter. A snow storm occurred during our first night there. Here is the text (edited) that I sent my daughter the day of the storm. - We are stranded here basically without food. The roads were closed early this morning and a travel advisory has been on ever since, asking people to stay off the roads. Therefore, no staff has come in this morning other than 2 gals at the front desk and the restaurant is closed. When we spoke to the office about food, we were informed that a convenience store 3 km away was open, but they could not advise us to go there due to road conditions. We were somewhat better off than some guests because when we ordered our entre at the restaurant the previous evening we ordered a plate of biscuits as well. We only ate 2 of them and took the remaining 2 back to our room. At 10 am. I made coffee, so thankful that came with the room. We each had half a biscuit with our coffee. I was not sure we would be able to get out, so I was rationing our meager supply. At 1 pm. we went to the very tiny store and bought bread, peanutbutter, jam and a bag of chips. We had a peanutbutter sandwich for lunch. I called the office and told them they lost an opportunity to be a good host. With little effort they could have taken bread and jam from the restaurant and set up a toaster at the front desk and offered it to guests to make toast, to take back to their rooms. Shocking response - there was nothing they could do about the weather and other guests were complaining too. REALLY? We will have our remaining biscuit and another peanutbutter sandwich for dinner tonight. ( end of text) We enjoyed our chips that evening while watching TV. In the morning we left, bought breakfast on the way home. We were in disbelief, with no intention of ever returning. I feel they could have made some small effort to lessen the inconvenience instead of leaving us with no food. No discount either , by the way, because they are not in control of the weather. I will start by saying the location of the Villas cannot be beat - the views, walkability, etc. is all amazing. However, I was very disappointed that our "sleeps 6" Villa only had 4 wine glasses, 5 plates and 4 bath towels. It also had an incredibly tiny living room that did not seat 6 without using the dining chairs, which there were also only 4 of. The shower upstairs also was very stained and moldy - in need of a much overdue update. For the price you pay, we expected much more. The swim spa is just that - a swim spa. It is not a hot tub. Luckily we were able to book in the morning when the cover had been on all night so it was warm enough, but into the evening it was not. The pool was also tiny and I'm not really sure it was even worth adding. Overall, the beach, restaurant and views were lovely, but next time we would just stay at one of the many better equipped and updated Airbnb's in the area, especially if a group over 4 people.

My husband and I initially booked Whitepoint Resort to base ourselves to explore the area but moved to Quarterdeck last minute after a bad experience with our room at Whitepoint. We had initially thought Quaterdeck overpriced, but found it was 100% worth it! We had a suite in the Lofts. The room was exceptionally clean and modern with thoughtful features every traveler will appreciate. The bed was very comfortable, the view was wonderful, and the cookie service an added treat. The well-trained and efficient staff give us confidence that this place knows what they are doing. We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant - try the Trapped Lobster cocktail! Tip - We scored a last minute booking discount. Quarterdeck has a lot of rooms so if you are not picky on exactly what building/room style you get, it could be worth waiting to see if a discount becomes available.

We stayed in the loft. This building has amazing views of the beach and just a short walk to get to it. The loft room is nice but a few simple adjustments could take this resort to the 5*.
Cons: we got 2 towels. No face cloths, no bath mat, nothing. Just two towels.
The provided shower gel on the wall was nearly empty. Couldn’t get much out of it
The foot steps of the person above us was extremely loud.
There is no AC in the bedroom, the heat pump was shut off and it wasn’t easy to get it going at 3am and then you have to sleep with bedroom door open
One side of the bed had no side table - no where to lay my phone or glasses.
The window coverings are not room darkening. So with windows cracked and the sun coming in it was like sleeping in a tent.
A hot tub would be nice
A little outdoor games area would be cheap and easy to add. Washer toss, horse shoes, whatever.
If you are in hilltop building the view is not great
Pros Bed was good, 4 bug fluffy pillows
Kitchen was great, nice new appliances
Room was nice, and designed good
Location was super nice.
