Detailed Reviews
Had a delicious lunch at this unique country pub. Don’t judge a book by its cover, it is a hidden gem. The memorabilia around the walls and even the ceiling in the bar area is interesting and fun. The staff are friendly and the food is very good. My father is already keen to go back for their chips which he says are ‘the best he has ever had’. The meals are a good size and the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be back.

There is a HUGE lot to see in this pub .. numerous decor items hanging from the ceilings and walls - very interesting; along with the rustic wooden bar stools (so good). Price was reasonable .. but just found the service was rather ordinary. Me thinks he would rather be playing darts, than serving customers

My mates and I rode to Clifton from the coast and spent the night there. The manager was very welcoming, gave us a secure place to park our bikes overnight. The Guinness on tap was delicious, as was the meals we had that night. The rooms were great and the bed was comfortable. An old worldly charm and the locals were great and eager to chat with us. we will be back.

If I were reviewing the restaurant, this would be 5 stars, but I am reviewing the hotel. My wife and I stayed 2 nights in order to visit one of my wife’s relations. I am 72 and don’t handle stairs very well at all, so all rooms being on the first floor up was a problem for me.
Firstly, the room was just that, a sparse room with a bed, a window, a small table, a washbasin, and a chair. No heating, and a small fan if it became too hot. The bed was comfortable and the first night we slept well. The showers in the morning were a fixed to the wall design, but the water was hot and plentiful. So far, no real complaints.
The proprietor did not seem impressed to have guests, we asked for an extra chair and a couple of extra pillows, and although they were delivered, it always seemed like an imposition.
On the second night, in the restaurant, we were able to engage the proprietor in conversation, but he only seemed to become interested, on learning the he knew my wife’s relation (small country town).
Our phones showed that there was a guest login for the internet, but enquires were met with an “I don’t know” and there was zero effort to find out. The next evening, I asked another member of staff for the same information, but again, they didn’t know and couldn’t find out.
There are no facilities for breakfast which requires a short walk to the next door Foodworks where a very generous breakfast can be had.
Night 2 and there was another person in the adjoining room. The walls are so thin that we could hear every noise, telephone call and snore emitting from said room.
The room was cheap comparatively, and my wife chose the hotel because it was walking distance to her relative’s home. If it had been a more welcoming environment, I would have given it another star, but it wasn’t. I would recommend eating at the restaurant, I would not recommend staying in the hotel.

The most awful meal I've ever had, didn't think you could kill bangers and mash but they proved you could. Barely 2 spoons of mash and sausages that burnt you couldn't cut them with the blunt knife they give you. Hubby had the barra and the batter was that hard you couldn't eat it ....won't be back

Family came to visit on a Saturday so thought we would give the local a try for dinner.
We ordered our meal & was greatly disappointed, the son ordered rare steak, came out overcooked and tough; daughter in law ordered the lamb shank with mash potato, was just that not appetising at all.
We had Chicken Parma & was so dry nearly choked on it, lucky we had water to wash it down.
Sitting in the bar you feel like everything is closing in on you it is so cluttered with stuff hanging everywhere.
Will not return to this place again & wouldn’t recommend either.

Rode out to Clifton with 12 mates. Most welcoming publican. Opened the shed for secure overnight motorbike parking. Basic but comfortable rooms. $6 local beer pints and $9 Kilkenny and Guinness. Unheard of prices!
The foodworks next door does a decent breakfast feed as well which is needed!

As part of a group we found our stay at this Hotel as unpleasant, There was no feeling a welcome on our arrival, infact it was cool, our rooms were so basic and there was no service room unlike all other country hotels we have stayed at. Not being able to even make a our own cup of tea or have a place to sit and socialise was not much fun. We feel it was not worth the price compared to other Hotel in this range. Our meal was nice but again we did not feel welcome.

If you like rude staff and raw chicken this is the place for you. Staff not welcoming at all when we arrived, stood for 5min in middle of dining room awaiting one of the people to stop to say hello. The meals were awful one wouldn't feed it to there dog, it was served up with packet mash potato, and undressed salad that look as though it was prepared 2 weeks ago. Never again it's not worth the drive.

Fletch kindly picked up our group in his small bus twice during our visit to Clifton and also drove us home each time when asked.
The restaurant is very interesting with lots of jugs, cups and memorabilia to look at. We ate there both times and were impressed with the short wait for meals, the delicious food and the meal size. We had plenty of room in the dining area for our group of 17 plus others.
The restaurant and bar staff were friendly and smiling and ensured we all had our meals and drinks and were happy with them.
Order your meals from the bar. Make sure you are hungry as the meals are huge.
