Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hotel Lusitano is located in the centre of Vilar Formoso close to the railway station and the border crossing to Spain. The hotel offers 34 rooms over 4 floors. Walls are thin. Furnishings and decoration provide a comfortable, yet slightly outdated, atmosphere. Service is friendly and helpful.

We had a spacious room with a good twin-bed, wardrobe & safe, desk & chairs, TV & fridge, airco, and a large bathroom with washbasin, toilet, bidet and shower over the bath. The window can be opened. All was clean. An OK buffet breakfast is served: boiled eggs, cold cuts & cheese, bread, rolls & croissants, cereals & fruit, yoghurt & juice, preserves, tea & coffee.

Hotel Lusitano is an adequate hotel, very good for one night sleep.

Having travelled by bus from Salamanca we were happy to spend a night in Portugal as a stop over before continuing further. Our room was on the first floor, and it was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Bathroom consisted of a bath, shower and bidet and was very clean. For a hotel which has been established for some time, it was well kept and judging by the occupancy rate, is very popular! Breakfast was adequate and for the price, you could not complain! Situated just a short distance from the border crossing on the main road, it is close to smaller shops and the railway station. Nice comfortable stop if you are travelling further.

Noisy hotel both inside and outside. Located on very busy roundabout. On arrival lift out of order and had to climb stairs with luggage. Mini fridge in room out of order. Staff not very friendly. Very simple breakfast. Free parking. Interesting frontier town.

I have nothing to complain about the room itself, the breakfast or the price. If that is all you need then please stay here. This hotel is on one of the major crossing points bewtween Spain and Portugal. From my window I could gaze at the unused but very large border crossing point that became redundant with free movement in the EU. Next door is the tiny SEF building for foreigner who need some documentation. Supposedly do not need an appointment for this SEF unlike most others but cannot guarantees this. I guess everyone stayed in this hotel in the old days waiting to cross into Spain. The staff here were not friendly, the parking is very bad, the WiFi does not work although it is advertised and there is just no ambiance. Drive 20 minutes and stay in Almeida and walk the walls of the 17th Century Star Fort is a better bet.

Pros:
Nice staff. 24 hour front desk (we arrived late so it mattered). Free parking. Good location on the way from Madrid to Portugal. A little old-style room, but very good, clean and comfortable. Gorgeous bathroom. Air conditioner warms up the cool room in spring and cools it down in summer when it's hot. Good value for money.
----------
Cons:
WiFi didn't reach our room on the 2nd floor, but worked in the lobby. Breakfast could be a little richer.

Good little hotel on the boarder with Portugal, perfect rest stop on our road trip to Portugal & easy to find from the ferry in Bilbao.
Rooms huge, clean and comfortable. Bathroom the same with plenty of hot water and power shower. We found parking just in front of the hotel, and had an excellent meal in the hotel restaurant.
The town is nothing to shout about, although there is a petrol station & several shops near the hotel so it's very well located in that regard.
We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that, but wished we had as we left early and everything on the road was either shut or not offering breakfast.
Rooms are dated however, and the telly gets none of the English channels advertised in the brochure. Wifi is non existent in the room, and slow in the restaurant.
That said, I would stay here again as it was for one night of good kip on our way to the real holiday, and at least I know it was clean. Some of the hotel's we saw from the car on the way down looked like something out of a nightmare!

We have stayed at this Hotel on a number of occasions so decided to stay there on Saturday the 23rd May 2015 on our way to the UK.
We where delighted that since we last stayed the Hotel has been refurbished with the restaurant now on the ground floor next to the bar.
We had a meal which was excellant and at a very competative price. Drinks in the bar snacks and drinks where at great prices. The Hotel is pet friendly where your pet is allowed in your bedroom. And very clean with on suite toilet and shower.
Would we stay there again ? Certainly wood 10/10.
