We live in Cape Town & its not often that you only drive 45min for a weekend getaway but Babylonstoren is just too special not to be tempted. It was a perfect winters weekend and the kids loved exploring the farm, picking fruit and veg, paddling on the dam, collecting eggs, disappearing on their bikes even a spot of swimming!...

My husband and I spent one of our honeymoon nights at this special place. What a special experience! From entering the farm until the moment we left we were absolutely carried on their hands. We had supper at Babel and that was also fantastic, the breakfast is AMAZING and the garden is obviously awesome. My husband being a farmer couldn't...

Probably one of the best and most memorable weekend stay experiences. We stayed in the farmhouse, which has a central courtyard with a pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. It was amazing. Since we went in the winter, the warm water facilities were very welcome and pleasant. The room was very comfortable, with a huge bathroom and cosy fireplace. And...

This is a unique experience and a combination of relaxed, high quality accomodation, a wine estate and a quite beautiful 8 acre garden estate. The restaurant, Babel, is simple but very, very high quality with the freshest ingredients (not surprisingly) and very friendly and efficient service. We were there 3 nights but didn't want to eat out once as the...

Sadly we only spent 2 nights here. What a lovely place, beautiful accommodation, small cottages, simply and stylishly decorated, including kitchen and open fire. The gardens are full of fruit trees and vegetables (all of which you are allowed to pick) to use if you are cooking. We opted to eat in the vineyard's own restaurant Babel, amazing fresh, innovative...

It was an amazing morning. You stroll threw this beautiful garden with majestic mountains as back drop. The Clivia's was just starting to flier. I think next week will be even more breathtaking. The farm shops have interesting Delhi edible gifts to take home . The wine tasting was amazing. A great activity with friends and family .

Thank you for taking the time to share your amazing morning with us. September is the month when our clivias flower! Thousands of these beautiful indigenous lilies will be blooming down by the stream, with flowers that vary dramatically in shape and size. The colours range from yellow, peach and orange to deep red. This is a walk not to...

Babel restaurant stole our breadth away. The settings are all too memorising and the staff are politely friendly. The menu is simple but there is no compromise on the food they served as it was delicately prepared. The evening was lovingly spent there. Very enchanting indeed.

Hi Roy Thank you for sharing your breathtaking experience with us! Our philosophy is simple, generous and honest. Fresh, seasonal food that is closely tied to its origins in the garden. Our style of food leans towards simplicity, but we play with unexpected flavour combinations and new varieties of fruit and vegetables in every meal. And while our meals are...

The unique garden at Babylonstoren is certainly worth a visit. Strolling amongst the different blocks of this garden is such an interesting experience. A guided tour is highly recommended as the stories behind this garden makes this visit!

We spent 3 beautiful days in this living painting by some modern day Dutch Master. The farm grounds--from the aspargus to the olives to the oranges to the rows and rows (and more rows) of grapes--given an air of relaxed, vibrant beauty: that air carries over to everything Babylonstoren does. You can grab a bike a ride around the property....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just 60 kms from Cape Town in the Groot Drakenstein Valley, Babylonstoren - named after the small hill on the farm named by early Dutch settlers in honor of the Bible's Hanging Gardens of Babylon - dates to 1692. The 8-acre formal French kitchen garden at Babylonstoren, inspired by Cape Town's famous 17th-century Company Gardens of the Dutch East India Company, is the central focus of the farm. Today, cultivation of the freshest fruit, herbs and vegetables is paramount and the menu at the farm's restaurant, Babel, is driven by the seasons and what nature dictates. With over 300 fruits, vegetables and herbs to choose from, there is always be something fresh and surprising. Overlooking the vineyards and garden with the historic farm buildings forming a backdrop, Babylonstoren's 13 guest cottages echo Cape Dutch farm buildings. This style was developed in the Cape Colony in the 17th and 18th centuries: the outer walls are whitewashed and decorated with ornate gables and the interiors are pleasantly cool in summer (due to thick walls) and are heated by open hearths in winter. In these cottages we see 18th century-style exteriors boldly yet seamlessly married to the 21st century. Hotel guests are encouraged to pick fruit and veggies from the garden, explore the farm on bicycle, join our daily garden tour, enjoy our signature hammam treatment in the garden spa, or simply unwind with a glass of wine in the hotel's green room. The abundant harvest table breakfast is served from 8h00 - 10h00 in the garden's beautiful greenhouse. Guests can also enjoy dinner on the farm, either in Babel restaurant four nights a week, or in the farm bakery (Sun, Mo & Wed). ... more   less
