Tired rooms with paper thin walls. Had to listen to the staff party once the pub closed, unable t0 sleep as we listened to a female staffer singing badly. Jug and toaster supplied but no coffee, cups, or milk supplied. No ensuites, which was not mentioned. $90 for the room plus another $10 for the second person was a joke. Simply avoid and sleep in the bush

This Hotel/pub is right next door to the Min Min Encounter, pictured above. The motel out the back of the pub is ground level with undercover concrete base parking directly outside each room and gravel covered yard. Unfortunately the gravel yard is noisey at night & not wheelchair/walker friendly. There is no concrete pathway on the footpath in the side street, which is the entrance to the motel area, so if you need to get into the pub/restaurant area when the doors are locked from the motel side entrance & you use a mobility device, you'll need to use the roadway & go up to the min min encounter's kerb ramp to access the footpath, to then enter the pub through the restaurant's door which is accessible from the footpath.
Other than that, there is a steep ramp from the motel area, which is across the gravel yard, to the pub's beer garden. there is a pool gate style Gate at the top of this ramp & it could not be operated independently by someone in a wheelchair but with assistance, it's quite usable.
There is no reception area like other hotels/motels, you check in at the pub counter & do the same when checking out. EFTPOS available through the whole town. Lunch, dinner & snacks are available at the pub, but if you want breakfast, you need to order it the day before for room service. Obviously, there is a pub + a restaurant adjoining the pub. They serve good, hearty meals and the freshness of the food is amazing. Suitable for families & there's a children's area with some toys etc. The staff are friendly, some locals, some backpackers. The owners are nice & accommodating.
The wheelchair accessible room is only suitable for those who have more independence & low care requirements. It is not suitable for high care needs. It is a basic room with just enough space for manual wheelchair users. The open shower (only has curtains no walls or doors), has a fold down, plank style bench which is not suitable for those who have paralysis & muscle wastage, as you'll end up with pressure sores. You can ask for a plastic outdoor chair when making the booking for the room. The shower has grab rails & an adjustable shower with a long hose. No shelving in the shower or shower caddy for shower items when I was there this year.
The toilet has grab rails & is a good height. But as usual, there is insufficient shelving or wall mounted cabinet, though there is a small floor unit for storage. The bed is low in height but if you can manage it, the mattress is just ok. Air-conditioned, TV, bar fridge, microwave, kettle & a couple of basic crockery items & cutlery. It was clean, neat & tidy.

Very friendly staff with meals at reasonable prices. Bottle red wine $25. Great value.

Not too many choices for a meal and this is the best in town. All good.

Tour buses come in here so don’t be too late as you may have to wait.

We have travelled western Queensland for the past few weeks, happily spending cash in each town using local fuel, pubs and accomodation. We were disappointed with the quality of accomodation and price ($150 a night) in Boulia. Motel room was filthy with goats and pony in a yard adjacent to our front door. Wont be back.

We travelled back from the Big Red Bash via Boulia and booked a table for our group of 10. The place was buzzing. We all enjoyed the most superb meals and service From rib fillet to beef roast, chicken schnitzel and savoury mince. All were delightful and despite the busyness we were served quickly and with good old fashioned country hospitality. Thank you to The Australian Hotel for a memorable evening and delightful food. Emma and Rachel were our waitresses. What great gals.

Boulia is not, I imagine, somewhere people dream of finding themselves. Life works in mysterious ways however, and Boulia is exactly where I found myself last night, and given that it was 36 degrees, I felt that a night in a motel versus camping might be a prudent move. With only three accommodation options in Boulia my travelling companion and I opted for a motel room at the Australian. Just $130 later the room was ours and the showdown with the airconditoning began.

A box was fitted beside the AC unit with a "Coolnomix" badge affixed to it, something that was new to me. It's function became clear to me as the night wore on. Apparently it is designed to save money via the expedient of using less electricity. In this sense it is an absolute winner for the simple reason that it makes the AC system completely and utterly useless. It seems to operate on the principle of turning the unit on and off every 3-4 seconds endlessly throughout the night making for air conditioning that has the dual properties of being very noisy and at the same time incapable of cooling down the room in which it is installed. Top work "Coolnomix".

On the plus side this on and off behaviour only lasts exactly 46 minutes, at which point the air conditioning unit simply gives up and produces nothing other than an extremely loud noise and warm air. Fear not fellow travellers as the problem is easily solved by simply turning the unit off and back on again, every 46 minutes. Pure genius! "Coolnomix", I salute you!

Other than the completely useless airconditoning, the only reason for our stay, the accomodations are satisfactory if utterly charmless.

A nice clean well equipped country motel. There is a microwave, toaster, kettle, basic crockery and cutlery. Undercover parking right outside. Meals are of course available at the pub. We enjoyed our stay and would go back!!

My husband & I went in for a few cold ones, nice clean hotel. Then we decided to eat their, we ordered at about 6.10 but didn’t get are meals until 7.30, pretty poor service. Meals were ok but part of my meal was cold, other clients didn’t get there’s until 8pm & they ordered before us. Hopefully they can improve their service, last time we came through the service was great.

The staff were at the end of their 3 month stay and were "over it". My 4 experiences with them showed them as indifferent to several requests.

Having said that the rooms were clean, basic and very warm.

There was a good selection of food, which was well presented and tasty for our large group.
