Detailed Reviews
Pretty Beach House is a luxurious and beautiful property which the website photos do not come close to depicting its beauty. It is certainly comparable to or better than Qualia, Wolgan Valley, Longitude 131, Capella or the former Southern Ocean Lodge, by way of example. There are simply too many good features to name but the revelation was the food. Beautiful produce driven dishes within an overall meal that would clearly garner many hats if open to the public as a restaurant. In-house chef Duncan obsesses about the detail in a very good way. Very reminiscent of Sean’s Panorama. This is a paradise which should be on the list of every serious foodie.

Pretty Beach House has four amazing villas. We had all four booked for a special birthday. Can't praise this place enough, beautiful spot, fantastic staff, spectacular food.
Catered for all our needs with food and drink. The two Chefs, Duncan and Camilla, made the most beautiful meals, and so much of it. Two top quality degustation menues. Breakfast was a feast of everything you could possibly want and more.
Wanted to do the coastal walk so they picked us up and dropped us off. Nothing was too much trouble.
All the staff, Steve, Colin, Missy (and daughter) and all the behind the scenes people which we didn't get to meet, were so warm, welcoming and friendly.
The accomodation was spotless and beautiful with views over the bush and water.
Highly recommend a visit to Pretty Beach House. Cannot rave about it enough!

A great experience. The Hideaway Pavillion was very comfortable an d the plunge pool (heated) was relaxing to use. The location in Bouddi National Park means that the only noise is the sounds of the birds !
My wife has dietary “issues” and these were catered for by Eduard and Dean magnificently . The quality of the food presented was impressive. My wife is a fan of smoked salmon and was impressed with the quality served. We subsequently found that the smoked salmon came from Norway. All in all we cannot speak too highly of Pretty Beach House and will certainly seek to return in the future.
Note: Pretty Beach House provides a free laundry service.

Hugely disappointing 2 night stay at pretty beach house and not worth the money. I am so surprised that the previous reviews have been so good as this was absolutely not our experience. Please read below the polite feedback I sent to the Pretty beach house team (and although we got a reply saying sorry, I was surprised we were not offered anything as compensation given in their reply they admitted the issues we encountered were not up to they normal high standards. You don’t pay $2,400 per night to stay in a dirty room filled with cobwebs and ants!)
“We have just finished our 3 week Australia and New Zealand honeymoon and although we have had a lovely honeymoon because we didn’t let the PBH experience ruin it but it certainly didn’t enhance it. As mentioned to Geoffrey the property is not up to the standard we would have expected given the price charged.
As you know we were nervous about making the trip to Sydney based on what we had heard in the UK news and although we were pleasantly surprised not to be affected at all by the bush fires, unfortunately, we now regret our choice to stay at PBH.
We are not in the habit of complaining and thankfully over the years of travelling and staying in wonderful places we haven’t had much need to. I want the best places, great quality and the cost usually reflects that. The things like cobwebs hanging from the lights in the dining room and all round our room, the dirty sofa in our room, the stained pool chairs, the stained chairs on our balcony, the swimming pool cleaner being left in the pool even though it was never turned on, no offer of a pool towel when sitting by the pool, the ants everywhere especially round by our plunge pool so you couldn’t sit there, no extra effort or acknowledgement that we were on honeymoon and not even the smallest effort to make the house Christmassy - there was no attention to detail. My one priority was to go for the best and have a luxurious and memorable trip - the room was none of those things and as I said I was looking forward to going home which was never a sentiment I felt in the any of the other beautiful lodges and hotels we have stayed in during our trip.
It is a shame that the property was not up to standard, especially given the food was delicious and the staff lovely, but hopefully after some changes it will be for others who stay there in the future. We have family planning on a similar trip to New Zealand and Australia next year and unfortunately I could not recommend PBH to them. I appreciated Geoffrey apologising but it’s a shame they were so many excuses for making them.”

The accommodation is just nice. Not special and not very well maintained – particularly outside areas. At this level I would have expected everything to be pristine.
Service is casual charming but not coherent – many changes in people over a three day stay.
Food was amazing but again multiple chefs and we did feel a limited choice might have been given. I don’t eat red meat so my only option of quail was a tad esoteric.
But for high end travellers in Australia choices are limited which is why Pretty Beach House will always be on the radar. Simply not worth the money on any level.

Hi Fleetcat, Thank you for your feedback. It is always helpful and we appreciate it. Menus and dietaries are always a priority at Pretty Beach House to ensure each and every guest is properly catered for and looked after. It's a shame you did not tell us about your dietaries when we asked. We would have most certainly designed a menu to suit you. Safe Travels.

We had a 2 night stay at Pretty Beach House as part of our Babymoon. It is very expensive and there is much better value to be had elsewhere if that is a consideration. One thing I didn't realise until we were there was the close association between Bells Killcare and Pretty beach House. They describe it as a sister property. Most of the staff come from Bells and most of the equipment like a bicycle or kayak (available for extra hire charge) comes from Bells as well. I asked for a bike and was advised that they were all at Bells but the staff did find one rusty old bike with flat tyres that they made serviceable. Apparently most of the guests like to eat ad drink and float in the pool.
Our room was clean and well presented but we could not open any of the sliding glass doors for a breeze as 4 out of 4 flyscreens were broken. We were advised repairs were not able to be done until after our departure so we just left the airconditioning on 24/7.
The food/dining was outstanding and cannot be faulted. Service was casually attentive and good.
In summary, the property is very good but not good value. Go if you like privacy and excellent food and wine and don't care about the cost

This is the ultimate destination for you to wind down and be pampered. The level of service was above and beyond, the food was divine, the rooms spacious and private and the bed just makes you want to stay even longer. The evenings are sophisticated and the food and wine a delight. We were fortunate to have met several other couples that created a wonderful evening. Days can be spent wandering the Bouddi National Park or relaxing by your pool. We also went on a Broken Bay Oyster Tour that was informative and made us appreciate the pearl a great deal more. Geoff, Missy, Emma, Dean and everyone else I have forgotten their name but certainly not their expertise in service, were outstanding and could not have been more helpful. They are always there to assist but at the same time they are rarely seen. You feel like you are in your own little hideaway but then you walk to dinner and mingle with the beautiful art and architecture. Cannot recommend enough

What a wonderful place! Quiet and elegant with friendly, attentive staff, it felt very special to be staying somewhere so intimate. We spent one night in Bayview pavilion with a plunge pool on the deck, then two nights in Treetops in the main building and with a wonderful view down to the bay from the large balcony. We loved both but preferred Treetops for the view and also it had a large freestanding bath by the window. The food was delicious, although technically there was no choice, if we didn’t like something on the menu then an alternative would be offered. We usually took the suggested wines with each course but sometimes made our own choice. On our day of departure we had to leave early and a toaster, bread, pastries, juice, butter and jam was put in the room the night before so we could eat something before leaving. Several walking trails straight from the door which we enjoyed doing. The driveway is very steep and twisty and taxed our hire car somewhat!

We loved our 2 night get away to Pretty Beach house. Hidden luxury on our doorstep. We felt welcome & relaxed as soon as we arrived. The team were brilliant with top notch service and the Chef Dean was exceptionally talented. We stayed in the retreat which was superb being the largest accomodation with 2 stories & a pool with a view. The bed was super comfortable and the rain shower was lovely not to mention the bath tub looking out into the bush land. If you don’t like stairs I would recommend booking a different room although you do spend most time on the downstairs floor with the pool. We enjoyed a lovely morning walk 40 minute each way to Box head. A few steps but here & there but relatively good tracks with sign posts. The dining was a highlight with beautiful menus and thoughtfully matched wines. Look out for Larry the lizard lounging by the main pool for evening cocktails 😁

Excellent meals from the three chefs, Dean, Eloise and Duncan, separately, on the three nights that we stayed at Pretty Beach House.
I have strict dietary requirements, which all three chefs were able to wonderfully cater for, this includes anaphylactic reactions to goat and sheep's milk products.
We were told that they plan the menu a week in advance, and they devised meals around my limitations. The staff were careful to check with me at each sitting as to the suitability of each course !!
Aly welcomed us, there is no check-in, so no waiting around. She served us lunch on arrival and supplied us with clear maps for our many bush walks (in dry and wet weather). She also offered additional suggestions.
We continued to be beautifully looked after by the table staff, Aly, Christophe, Missy and Camilla.
Cleaning staff for our room are very efficient.
We were given chef made granola, on leaving Pretty Beach House.
