Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife & I returned home today after 2 nights there. The bedroom was clean & bed was very comfy. Bathroom was clean & tea/coffee/kettle/bar fridge were all fine. Only negative was we were woken up at 8am by the noise upstairs by someone repeatedly opening and closing a glass sliding door, something you don’t want at 8 in the morning on your holiday. Also the driveway & parking space is incredibly narrow and very difficult to manoeuvre. So that’s why I give 3 out of 5 stars. Nice owners though

We had an outside cabin which was rustic, all basic facilities were ok. No wifi in the room we had. Very good views. Parking was not easy, limited space. Breakfast ok and served on time, boiled egg a nice touch. The towels were very hard, could have done with being put in a tumble drier to soften them up. We were charged an extra $2 because we paid by credit card which I consider a little unnecessary and mean.

While the accommodation is out of the centre of town, it is only a short drive away. It had lovely spacious rooms ... Large master bedroom and another twin share room. There was a large spacious bathroom and good seating space inside and out. The grounds are well maintained and the owners were friendly and provided a continental breakfast catered to our time requirements. The main bedroom had coffee/tea facilities, microwave, toaster, large tv and free wifi.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Protea Hill. Fred and Jeanine are excellent hosts providing all the support you need while respecting guests' privacy. We had the downstairs unit which was very comfortable. Everything was clean and in good working condition. The view from the breakfast table was magnificent. Wifi was very good. Jeanine prepared a good breakfast of fruit juice, fruit, cereal, eggs, toast, jam and coffee. We had a little difficulty in parking our Toyota Prado in the space available - Fred helped with guidance on how to get in and out. Happy to recommend this B&B.

My daughter and I spent 3 nights at Protea Hill and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The rooms were comfy and warm and provided all that we needed. The view over the river was beautiful and at night the city and its environs looked like fairyland. The breakfast was adequate and the fresh boiled egg was very tasty. A most relaxing place to stay. Thank you Fred and Jeanine.

The rooms were very clean & comfortable, & the views lovely. I think the way breakfast is served could be improved. I'm usually asked how I like my eggs cooked, but at Protea they were hard boiled (yuk!). Possibly the biggest disappointment re: breakfast was being served Kraft cheese slices wrapped in plastic!! Tasmania produces some divine cheese & providing locally produced cheeses to the guests (which can be purchased at the supermarket), would be a perfect way of promoting the islands produce.

We arrived mid afternoon with a couple of our friends and were warmly welcomed by our host Fred, he showed us to our rooms, which were very well appointed for a B&B. we had booked the 2 bedroom unit which is under the house, the bathroom was large and the main bedroom had a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, a toaster and a microwave, the only draw back that we found was the fact that there were only spoons and cups, if you have a toaster you would expect people are going to use it and at least provide a couple of plates and knives. Another small complaint was that you can here noise from upstairs, so if you stay inside during the day be prepared. Breakfast was good, basic but well presented. Overall it was a pleasant experience.

We spent 3 nights at Protea Hill B&B in Launceston, on Tasmania. Our hosts, Jeanine and Fred, were very helpful in providing suggestions for places to see and the time it would take to travel to see the sights in the area. This was our first trip to Tasmania. We had rented a car at Launceston Airport and our GPS easily found the B&B once I put the correct address. There is both a Riverview and a Riverside Road. My mistake. Protea was a good base to explore the northern side of Tasmania. We also took a wonderful daytrip to Freycinet National Park on the east coast. We stayed in the downstairs rooms with the bathroom shared between two bedrooms. The downstairs is NOT shared with guests not in your party - so that is not a worry. Our room was comfortable with a small microwave, refrigerator and television. Wifi was available and worked well.

This is a great place to stay - great views over the Tamar, failrly close to CBD, quiet and peaceful and the hosts are really helpful. We stayed in the unit under the house and it was very clean and comfortable and had most facilities that you would need. There was a small problem with availability of hot water but I understand that this only a temporary problem due to an issue with the water supply. There is nothing negative to say - it was great. The only thing I might suggest is that the hosts should provide you with a key to your room - purely for security and peace of mind for everyone.
