Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed when visiting friends in the area. The booking was managed in a friendly and efficient manner. Arrival was straight forward, checking in with the man behind the bar. Our room was upstairs - accessed off the large, shady front veranda.
Spacious, generous and comfortable! We had a quiet night and slept in. Tea on the veranda overlooking the main street to start the day.
The building is timber so I suspect the quality of the stay would be influenced by your neighbours. Ours were great!

Very nice pub in a quiet village atmosphere, good food, live folk music the day we stayed, rooms lead onto upstairs verandah, very clean and perfectly adequate for a one night stay. Staff friendly and great pizza oven and pizzas! Handy stopover point to explore the far north coast NSW

I have been reading some of the reviews, and I can not disagree more with a few. We stayed for 2 nights and loved every minute. From the time we checked in, we were greeted by friendly, happy staff. Our room was about 5 minutes off being ready, so they shouted us a drink at the bar. The rooms are quite large with a comfy bed, sitting area, balcony, and private bathroom. We ate 3 times in the restaurant and yes it's pub food but found everything really good. We drank excellent wine from South Australia, which was only $35. This pub is family-friendly and run by two very passionate laid back guys who make you feel incredibly welcome. I cannot wait for another weekend at the Eltham.

I've never reviewed on here before but the meal I ate at the Eltham pub last night prompted me to write this review. I ordered the pork belly with king prawn and Asian style salad and I couldn't finish the plate of food. The pork belly was over cooked and the crackling on top was still being picked out of my teeth during the drive home. I rarely leave a plate of food unfinished let alone when I pay $30 for a pub meal. The salad was covered in something white I couldn't quite work out what and gave everything a strange taste. My partner ordered the lamb, rice and pomegranate meal and was also disappointed! This cost $29 and although the lamb was beautifully cooked, the rice was very wet and there was a strange syrup over the meal that ruined the other flavours entirely. The wait staff were also very inattentive, only acknowledging us after we'd been sitting there for about 45 minutes. Overall, very disappointing experience.

We have been regulars at the Eltham Pub since moving to the area, it's always been a wonderful place to dine and very popular considering its in the middle of the country.

Over the past few months there have been new owners and I'm glad to say they are excelling. They have a new chef and a new menu and it's top class, with fresh local produce and a interesting new menu that caters for all diners.

Feel like a drive to the country this is the place to stop, but note if your coming over the weekend good idea to book...

I’m part of a group of middle aged blokes who gather on a Friday afternoon/ evening on semi-regular basis around the northern rivers.

We’re northern rivers locals with most of us owning businesses or working for large institutions (health service / uni / schools / manufacturing- etc) across the region.

We had been to the Eltham Hotel many times before - but never ordered anything more than hot chips or a bag of nuts. The beer is good and the gardens are getting there.

On this particular evening we ordered drinks and decided to order dinner.

Basic stuff nothing fancy - fish and chips, chicken Parma ... usual pub fare.

We were hungry and looking forward to a great meal.

We were sadly disappointed. Limp floppy oily ... BAD!

We mentioned to our waiter that the food wasn’t great and instead of an apology or thanks for the feedback - we got attitude and abuse.
‘
We wouldn’t know good food ... we’re not locals (like that should matter), ... do we know how hard it is to work in hospitality... (um yes we do - but again not sure why that matters).

We were not asking for our money back or additional food or anything - just letting them know quietly and politely that it wasn’t great.

We were not drunk loud or aggressive.

Our waiter was very aggressive.

Really disappointing as we always support local businesses and people having a go.

We know it’s tough out there ... we’re doing it tough also.

But this was really average and for the money not up to scratch.

There are plenty of other places to try - so do yourself a favour and give The Eltham Hotel a miss.

It’s off our list .. .

Super quaint and charming. Owners are laid back and delightful. The vibe at the pub was totally chill. Loved everything about this place. Wish I had the time to stay over a weekend. Will certainly stay again.

After a extensive drive around the area (including Lismore, Ballina, Alstonville, Goonelabah, Wollongbar) especially through the hinterland we came across this wonderful old hotel. The owners have certainly found a treasure here. We stopped for a quick cold drink but the venue is very inviting so stayed on a for another round. Would like to go back when they have their music nights!
