I stayed here twice in May, 2022. The staff is excellent, as friendly as can be. Location is excellent - across the street from gas/convenience store, easy on/easy off from the interstate. Food a half mile on the other side of the interstate.
The problem is the rooms. TV may or may not work. Door lock may or may not act up. One of my stays, I had ants. Cleanliness just barely makes the "somewhat acceptable" threshold for a nights stay; I wouldn't want to stay longer.
So the bottom line is this: I feel bad writing this, because the staff IS excellent. The problem is the property just needs a total reboot, a redo, a major makeover. Do that, I'll come back. Right now, honestly, I'll just hit up the Quality Inn in Arcola an hour away on I-57 instead; it's just a better property. Hopefully the owner/franchisee will address the issues - he has the hard part taken care of (the staff); now they just have to get the property up to quality inn standards.

We stopped here a few months ago so this was our second visit. Very convenient stop on the interstate. We were greeted by friendly staff at the front desk who recommended a good local restaurant for dinner. The room both times had a good layout. This one seemed to be recently remodeled. Last time it definitely wasn't as clean as it could be - the floor wasn't clean, the duvet had stains on it, glasses hadn't been replenished. Much better this time. Breakfast is adequate, scrambled eggs, sausages. We'd prefer real half & half instead of fake creamer and missed the normal Golden Malted. Guess you have to make some budget cuts somewhere to keep the price down.

This was not as good as I have come to expect from Quality Inn. It is older and not maintained very well. I wonder if they ever vacuum the hallways! But the room was clean, even though there were stains on the carpet. Breakfast was almost nonexistent - oatmeal and sweet rolls. But this is so much nicer than the motel next door, and I’m not talking about the Super 8!

The best thing that this hotel has going for it is that it is conveniently located off the highway, close to gas stations for coffee and snacks. It also has a large parking lot. The staff encountered was friendly and helped the best they could.
The Hotel smelled like weed in hallways and elevator. The smell was extremely strong and you could tell it was a continuous smell, not like just a one time, one person thing. Apparently this is “allowed” to happen here by the management. It also seems like a lot of “riff raffy” people stay here. Booked a suite, but had to be downgraded to a regular room because the a/c didn't work and it was 85 degrees in the first room. The TV remotes wouldn't work in the first room. Other people seemed to have trouble with their TV's too. Had to program remotes to work in second room this also seems to be an ongoing issue. Moved lazy boy in second room and found dirty sock. Breakfast was a stale honey bun in package. No coffee cups were available. Had to ask for them because no one was around to make sure things were stocked. It would have been nice to have water, milk or juice for non-coffee drinkers or kids. Internet was so slow it was not even usable.
Hotel seems like it needs some serious cleaning, updates and management changes to make this a better place to stay. Until then, I would not choose to stay here again.

Second stay.... not any better than the first! There won't be a third time.
While checking in the lobby had about 20 people and kids running around like there was a party. Completely in the way and so loud that you couldn’t even hear to have a conversation. When we made this reservation, we registered that there would be 4 adults in this rooms. The room had two queen beds. There were only two towels. The room itself was clean and comfortable. Overall, the was just an average stay. First impressions when you walk in the door say a lot and we were not overly impressed.

Entry security lock on side door broken. Hall was looked dirty and run down.
The room seemed clean. Electrical outlets were conveniently located. Towels OK. Good shower. Refrigerator small but OK, no freezer compartment. AC good.
Much trouble getting room keys to work.
Breakfast was not much. Of course blame it on CV19 as usual. But I have recently stayed in several Choice hotels and others chains that did much better.

We Loved it there. Super Comfy beds, room clean, plenty hot water, TV channels were fine, Great breakfast every am. Great location we plan to stay here again. We stayed on bottom floor. We had good wifi & ac worked great. We went there to Visit family in Salem and Elliston,VA. We drove all night from Florida took a chance No reservations but it worked out.

It wasn’t a new hotel but it was very clean and well taken care of. The staff were all pleasant to interact with. I had asked for a low floor when making the reservation and was actually right off the lobby area. Would definitely stay here again.

We are Choice Privelege Members and Comfort Inns are our hotel of choice when traveling. We have always had a great experience until we stayed at the Comfort Inn in Salem, IL. As we entered the hotel lobby the front door were very dirty with finger and hand prints (this should have been a sign. The lobby was very dated and not clean. Our room was also not clean - the bathroom was stained (not sure if it was not clean or stained), there was not light bulb in the bedside lamp, there were 3 bugs in the bathroom, the pillow cases were yellowed, carpet needed to be cleaned, there were water stains on the ceiling, the breakfast was marginal - the waffle iron did not work and this was overall a very poor experience. I have never given a poor review on a hotel so you know this was a bad experience.

We have stayed at the Comfort Inns on many occasions and have generally have had good, quality stays. However, we were very disappointed with this facility. Our room, number 101, was stark and worn, had only two frayed thin towels, only two styrofoam cups, a bed that was old and sorely needed to be replaced. When putting in the new shower rod, they left the old two inch holes in the wall from the old rod unfinished leaving dry wall tape and rough spackling. I wouldn't have been so shocked if it were an old EconoLodge or a worn Motel 6, but I am very surprised that they maintain a Comfort Inn classification.
I would agree with some of the other reviewers here that the desk clerk was very friendly and check in was quick, but that did not make low quality of the room any better.
