Detailed Reviews
My wife and I decided on our first "spur of the moment" semi-retired mini vacay to head to southern Illinois and stay at this hotel for the weekend. True there is not much around to do and true, the hotel would be ripe for renovations but I argue that this is an experience you are likely not going to easily repeat again. Here are the positives you will find. Without exception the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant food is very good and what a value!?? $12 for an all you can eat Sunday Breakfast Buffet that is tasty and plentiful??? The hotel was quiet during our stay. In our case the room was clean and comfortable enough for our needs. The stairs are steep and the floors seem a little "wonky" but hey, 100 years ago people were treading those same stairs without complaint. The "Mineral Bath" is a nice experience again harking back to times gone by. My wife and I personally hope we never lose little gems like this that allow us to experience what our forebears have experienced, with a little "luxury" thrown in albeit a little toned down. Good luck to the hotel, owners, workers and town. We hope you manage to be with us for another generation.

5 women for 2 nites at the Spa! What a trip. This hotel and bathhouse is old, and they don't try to hide that. However, it is clean and everything has been somewhat modernized. We loved it! The mineral bath was a real treat, and only one hour from St. Louis. Massage therapy was the best part. Professional, reasonably priced and private. While it was snowing in St. Louis, and freezing ice all around, it poured down rain in Okawville, and we didnt have to leave the building. The indoor heated pool is very nice, but not quite warm enough for my taste. However, there was a group of women doing water aerobics in it the day we were leaving.
They have a great restaurant, serving three meals a day! Very good, and excellent prices.
If you want to splurge, reserve the KingSuite. It really is a suite, with 2 separate bedrooms, and a roomy kitchen with microwave and small fridge. Very comfortable. I was told that the regular double room was not so great.
Overall, I recommend the Original Springs Hotel & Spa. I will go back again.

We celebrated our 9th anniversary here. Hotel is historic (old) and could use some tlc. We did enjoy the mineral baths and the massages! Employees seemed dedicated to service they were providing. On site restaurant was a plus since not much else nearby.

My wife and I stayed here on a weekend trip. I had read about it a few years back and wanted to come. We booked a package and scheduled mineral baths and massages. Upon arrival, the property was run down, and due to having our dog, we were put in a room that was nothing short of deplorable. Only one light worked, the bedspread was torn, and there was leftover food in the fridge. The cleanliness was questionable, as we wanted to like this place. The bath was nice; again, it all looked very run down. Both of our massages were around 30 minutes late, but they were decent massages. For dinner, the food was reasonably priced and good, but our dinner took 3 hours because it was so incredibly slow. There were two servers, and food came out one table at a time. My wife had to walk our cups up for refills. Then, it took an hour to get our bill totaled to leave. We went back for breakfast because our room came with a voucher, and after waiting an hour, we had to leave without eating to keep our schedule. We had asked for a timeframe about 30 minutes in and were told 5 minutes, but 30 minutes later, still no sign of breakfast. When we walked to the bar and said we had to leave, the waitress said she had to total our tab, and the only thing we had received was her drink; she said that was all she was willing to pay for and then gave her our breakfast credit voucher which was for five times more than the drink was and left.
We wanted to love this place, but it is in decline with no real sign of a comeback. I'm glad we got to stay because I don't see how it will be around much longer, but we will never return.

Run down, dirty (needs a good cleaning). Paint chipping, musty old carpet. No working smoke detector in our room (unplugged). Front deck said she would report but there was a detector in the hall. They had to put a different TV in our room. Old mattress with stained up box springs. Please cover those nasty box springs, yuck. We arrived to the bath house for our mineral bath to be told it was cancelled due to mechanical problems. Restaurant food (dinner and breakfast) came with mixed reviews. The hordoures and wine were very good. The seafood on my platter was so overcooked I could only eat about half. This was an anniversary trip we wasted good money on. Should have stuck to a good restaurant as we usually do.

We were terribly disappointed in the rooms!! Allergy people beware! I was in the room for maybe 5 minutes and started having a full on asthma attack! It was old, musty and moldy smelling. We had to leave and go to another hotel down the road, The beds were not good, very springy and, the bedding had rust marks on the bottom. The people were very nice and apologetic and refunded our rooms. However, that is the only positive thing I can say about this place

This is such a great place. Older... Yes... It was built in the 1800's. Do not come here expecting Four Seasons. Come here to be WELL taken care of. The hot springs bath was nice. Angie took great care of us and the massage with Cindy was the BEST I have ever had. I will be back!
The restaurant was AMAZING. I've been in the hospitality industry for over 25 years and they are some of the best staff I have met. Food was home cooked and delicious.
Front desk staff were easy to work with and made sure we had everything we needed.
Would highly recommend this location if you are looking for charm, new friends and great history.

This place has me questioning whether trip advisor can be trusted in the future. We should have left upon seeing dead flies & dust upon entry but I just cleaned those up only to discover later that lots of whiskers were at the sink. Bedding & towels were clean, restaurant had good food. Room smelled of smoke which is not charming or nostalgic for us.

If I could, I would give zero stars. Hotel very run down (needs a surprise visit from building and health dept) MOLD in the bath house area from the rain. The front desk clerk Tabatha hasn't got a clue about her job. Supposed to stay the night. BUT hotel to dirty

I love this place. We go off the beaten pat all of the time for our road trips. I love everything about this place. Is it like your typical hotel? Heck no, so don't expect that. You can expect a historical property appointed with antiques. A fabulous pool to enjoy and a nice restaurant and bar. Staff was friendly, food was tasty and great value.
