This hotel caters to area constructions workers (not a problem) and does have a breakfast bar for an additional cost. The hotel was clean, no bugs, well maintained, had a helpful staff, the security of the hotel was good and the price was right for Chicago! If you stay here request a room away from the freeway side as you will hear freeway noise all night long. For some reason the second night did not bother me. If you are staying on a budget this place will be OK but realize it is not a 5 star hotel. Price, safety and sleep are the reasons to stay here.

There were no bars in the bathroom to hold onto to assist elders getting in and out of the tub to take a shower, very risky. Housekeeping was extremely short staffed so much so that you have to go to the front desk if you need any addl towels. They have taken all the Quilts off of the beds where you just have a sheet and a light blanket. I had to ask for addl blankets. I was there for 4 days and didn't have a room cleanup the whole time I was there. I had a spill and it took almost 24 hours for someone to come and clean up the spill and they didn't do a good job. This Hotel use to be really nice, I don't know what happened.

This hotel "could" be a gem. It is large, has an onsite restaurant (when open), Pool (when open), great location convenient to expressway, airport, shopping, dining etc...However they cater to (contract) with the railroad and most of the hotel seems to be for these workers, so it seems like guests who stay for events, meetings or leisure travel are forgotten. The hotel is lacking any updates, the pool is a disgusting health hazard with 1/2 filled black water, most chairs in rooms are broken or they have dining room chairs for desk chairs.
I feel like their prices are way too high for what is offered.

Upon arrival it was impossible not to notice the horrid weed smell, overpowering. Before you even hit the entry door it just smacks you in the face. I even mentioned it to the nice person that checked me in, but I got that there is nothing he can really do about it. Was clear rampant weed usage in the hotel, outside, the lobby, the elevator all absolutely reeked. It wasn't until I got in my room I was able to get away from it. Had dinner in the onsite restaurant twice while I stayed and had no issues, good food, fair price and the staff was good. The breakfast situation however is entirely a different story. I'm fine with a paid breakfast buffet like they had at this location, it's just the specific service that I had issues with. Walking into the restaurant its hard to tell if it costs money or not because both days I went in there, there were no employees to be found initially. The first day I had to sit down at the bar and just wait for an employee to finally come around, which was several minutes, I could have easily just gotten food from the buffet and walked out and no one would have even known. I ended up ordering off the menu the first day after I was finally able to get service and the food was fine. The second day I was so upset with the service and employees I didn't even tip, which is really hard for me to do. Just like the first day there was no employee(s) to be found upon walking in. I decided to try the buffet this time so waited around several minutes before an employee showed up and then said I'm going to have the buffet. I got my first trip up to the buffet then another employee from the back came and took the tray that had all the meat in it and took it in the back, even though there was still meat in it. At this point that employee and another one came out of the back and got drinks and even made a waffle at the buffet table and then took them in the back with them. The whole time there was just no meat tray on the buffet for a solid 10+ minutes while very clearly the employees were just eating in the back. Eventually I got tired of waiting and just left a complete waste of my money. This service alone was such a joke it not only has me never going to this Best Western again.

To Whom it may concern, my experience with this hotel was not a good one. When I first checked in on 8/14/24 The checked me into room #257 which seemed to be a storage room with paint buckets and different things. So I walked back to the front desk and explained to the guy at the front desk that the room was a storage room. He said I thought i put #207 I said no it was #257 here is the video that i took with the key and room number. The guy at the front desk said and the door opened? I said yes. He apologized then gave me another room. #221. So I went to that room to inspect it to make sure it was ok, only to discover that there were stains on the sheets and black mold in the bathroom on the cieling. and it looked to have been painted over, and not done well. I then went back to the front desk, They guy was leaving for the night and a female was there so she gave me another room #357. She stated to let her know how that room was. To my suprise it was better. I think the the hotel can be upgraded a little more and housekeeping should make sure they are verifying that the cleanliness of the room is up to par. I then parked in the back of the hotel, to be closer to my room, and none of the doors let me in with my key i had to walk all the way back to the front of the hotel just to get into the building. When I got there the guy at the front desk stated that we can walk out the doors but we cant get back in. I then asked then what the point of the doors having key access if the keys wont work. a little frustrated at this point. so I left it alone. I thing I should receive so type of accommodation for the inconvenience. Then there was a $12 fee per person for breakfast. I thought Breakfast was included. But that was that. Also the coffee machine didn't work in the room. I was not happy. But the DNC was in town and there was no other place to book everything was sold out so I stayed, But I was not happy at all.

I can only say the bed was comfortable, that’s the only thing good! I usually write great hotel reviews, but not this place! One elevator was broken, the other elevator was small and scary loud, the second floor hallway smelled like thick pot smoke, the only ice machine available was broken because the employee said no water line is running to it, the water at this hotel tastes terrible anyway, towels were permanently stained, there was only 1 tiny soap for the extremely low mounted sink area and none for the shower with bad water pressure, the pillows were tiny and uncomfortable, no outlet located next to the one side of the bed, no coffee available in the lobby, no bathroom vent, the tv quality and service was so fuzzy that most channels didn’t work and it wasn’t worth turning on the tv! The breakfast was not included in the money we paid for the room…..like other Best Western’s (this needs to be disclosed at reservation and at check in). I will not stay again and other people should avoid this hotel, as I have stayed at many MUCH BETTER hotels in 3rd world countries!

This is one of the most overpriced and poorest quality Best Western's (BW) we have stayed at. We were duped into booking directly with BW because of their "low rate guarantee". An "aggregator" travel site had better rates, but BW fools you into paying them directly at a higher rate because they say they will "refund the difference and provide a $100 gift card" if you book directly with BW and file a claim form (after paying). The claim was rejected with the auditor pointing to some fine print. Don't fall for their tricks!

While the rooms were relatively clean, the bathroom was a bit gross with moldy shower heads and non-slip strips in the tub that were curled up and coming apart. The rooms themselves were pretty spartan (not necessarily bad, just boring), but smelled a bit like a smoker had lived there. For whatever reason, the elevator also felt like an oven, but luckily its a short ride.

Honestly, I don't understand the inconsistency of the Best Western brand. I have stayed at some beautiful BW hotels. Maybe "BW Plus" really means "BW Minus"?

I think the only positive about staying here was the pillows. Pretty sure nothing has been updated in 15+ years and it shows. The rooms and hallways were musty. Hallway had strong marijuana smell. Found hair in the shower soon after check in. And called the front desk to confirm there was free breakfast and what time it started — only to go downstairs the next morning and be told by a different staff member there is no free breakfast, you have to eat at the completely barren restaurant on the 1st floor. Felt like I checked into a motel instead of a Best Western. Definitely the worst Best Western I’ve ever stayed at.

The lobby, the hallways and the room smelled of cigarettes and something else. The motorlobby full of cigarette butts for days. I am a woman who travels alone for work and I felt unsafe and afraid because of the unpleasant atmosphere of this place. I was supposed to stay in Chicago for a week, but after the first night I ran away from this place and moved to another hotel, and obviously they were stupid with my refund, but my integrity and health are priceless. They do not clean the room, and the toiletries in the bathroom are quite despicable.

Yes it has a free shuttle to airport and with Chicago traffic about 20/30 minutes.
Answer from EA4900
The Hillside Best Western Plus has a shuttle that can go to the Blue Line which is a 15 minute ride downtown. Then you probably have a 15 Block walk. The van has limited capacity may only hold between 5-10 people and its first come first served for all our guests. Check with the front desk for details upon your arrival.
Answer from 214gene

Hi Shannon P. Be not scared. There is a train line near the hotel that takes you into downtown Chicago. Navy Pier is about half a mile north of there. You can transfer to a train going north to Navy Pier street. There are a number of bus options from there right into the pier. Go online to the Chicago Transit Authority and you'll see. Good luck with the V-Ball tourney.
