It was great to stay at this bad hotel, this was as close as we could get to the flaws of DPRK life. Somehow I wished it had been worse and therefore a more real-life experience. Anyway, it should definitely stay on the list of a DPRK tour. When you see people on the road washing themselves and their stuff...

I liked this hotel, where I stayed in October 2015 when visiting the Friendship Exhibition. This was the hotel I could get without paying extra. Yes, it was not quite as luxurious as the Hyangsan hotel must be (or the Yanggakdo of course), but it was alright. It had a somewhat oriental look to it. There was a hotel shop,...

Stayed for a night in this hotel after arriving in North Korea as part of my solo package tour to climb the Mount Myohyang the next morning.  It was 2.5hrs drive from Pyongyang and it was a magnificent building.  The room is basic with a CRT TV with pretty bad static and showing only local channels.  Upon check-in, was been...

Good rooms, clean, thin mattress and thin pillows. No running hot water (cold only), hot water given to you in a large thermos (we used it for coffee/tea in room). Thermos was still ‘warm’ in the morning. TV channel was only the NK propaganda channel. No electricity until 6pm (hence why all ‘cold’ drinks were warm). Hotel was dark but...

The Chongchon Hotel is one of the regional hotels that is part of many of the standard tours to the DPRK. Our tour was at the beginning of September 2014. If you are visiting Mount Myohyang and the International Friendship Exhibition, you will most likely stay here. It is a very ornamental looking hotel with its pagoda style front as...

Had a one night stay on a countrywide tour and I can honestly say that this hotel had the hardest bed !! My room otherwise was very warm and comfortable. Hot water in the bathroom and no probs with electricity. Had a good breakfast, impeccably served. A good base for visiting the International Friendship Exhibition and the Pohyon Buddhist Temple,...

Due to the not so good reviews I had low expectations. But I was surprised, that I had nothing to complain. Room was spacious, clean, comfy. The furniture was dated, but that does not matter. Small booksop. Nice bar, where I had a nice evening with my driver and guides. Food in restaurant (dinner, breakfast, lunch) was also good and...

Interesting mural to greet you when you arrive. Room a little on the small side but the water was hot and the beer was cold which probably helped with the sleep that night. A number of bars and pool tables to fill in time after dinner. Food was average but ok.

If you happen to find yourself in Hyangsan and your tour operator promised "first class all the way" and you end up here then you've been misled. The only decent place to stay in this city is the Hyangsan Hotel, not this drab excuse for an inn. At the Chongchon I found hairs in my bed and hairs in my...

A decent hotel with a rather cold lounge and a heated room, our room had a very nice view on the lake side, on entrance we were asked at what hour we want hot water and at the mentioned time we indeed had hot water, both diner and breakfast was enjoyable and the bar had good beer and a kind...
