My husband & I spent 2 nights in July at the Homestead, while visiting family in Chicago. We ended up only spending enough time there to sleep & have breakfast, but there is a lovely verandah where you could spend all day watching the world go by. The inn is in the heart of the Northwestern University neighborhood, and is...

Don't expect glitz or fancy surrounding. The place oozes classic charm. The rooms are all different but comfortable. The staff is fantastic. Parking can be a problem, but there is a free ramp close by. We plan on returning next summer for an extended visit. Sunday brunch is to die for.

We reserved a block of rooms at The Homestead for our daughter's wedding in Evanston on Sept.2nd. We needed something convenient due to the lack of parking on campus and our decision was a good one! The staff couldn't be friendlier! We stayed in a suite, so we had a larger room, but the feedback was that the regular rooms...

I agree with Steve T. The Homestead does need a little freshening up. But I really liked this rather European flavored hotel. It is elegant and small. The location is perfect. I'd take this over the big chains any day. I will stay here again without hesitation. Next time I will try the restaurant.

Selected The Homestead based on location and price. My husband and I were visiting his alma mater and wanted to stay in Evanston for the weekend. Compared to other chain hotels (e.g. Hyatt, Hilton, etc.), The Homestead's value seemed like the best option. Thinking that we weren't going to be in the room very much, it made sense. Add to...

I decided to book two nights in the hotel last minute, and went for the cheapest I could find in downtown Evanston in Hotels.com. Arriving, my impression went from nice place (from outside), to charming (lobby), to “what a damp” (my room). I like older places with character but not those where coats of paint cover broken things and window’s...

This is an older hotel with a charming feel. It was my first visit there. I stayed for 6 nights in one type of room (two twin beds), and 3 nights in a suite with a kitchen and a sitting area (they sold out of the smaller rooms). They let me move into the other room the same morning. Not...

This is a family owned hotel not far from Northwestern University and Lake Michigan, but the street itself is very quiet [tho parking on street is very regulated, hotel has free when validated parking at large structure in next block]. The building is 1920s architecture, so rooms have high ceilings, and some odd corners, as it looks as tho some...

Great location near the university and downtown. Enjoyed the older style ambiance. Elevators were fairly small, but you can't help what was designed for years ago. Comfortable room, although the view out our window was into the back decks of the condos/apartments next door. WiFi was present but weak. Still very much enjoyed the stay. Parking only available in garage...
