SpringHill Suites Review

We arrived on a Saturday night around 10pm, staying for two days. Two adults with two teenage children. Check in (and out) was very easy. Staff was very friendly, and always accommodating with things such as extra towels, bandaids, etc.

The biggest things I check for when staying someplace is how clean is the location/room, cost, distance I need to travel too and what amenities are included.

We reserved a suite with 2 Queen beds and a pull out sofa. We had more when enough room, especially with messy teenagers.

I will give this location a 5 star for cleaning. Our room was clean, not smelly, obvious clean sheets/blankets, and you feel like you could walk barefoot in the room (which had carpet).

The continental breakfast, which was included in the room charge, was very good. They had an assortment of hot foods, as well as cold cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice and coffee.

The pool was open until 11 pm each night, which the teens took complete advantage of. While it would have been nice to have a hot tub (I would have used that while the teens played), you can’t have everything.

Location was about 30/45 minutes to downtown Chicago, depending on traffic. It was also about 30 minutes from a family member that we were visiting. All in all, the location was perfect considering the price. Our hotel bill for 2 nights was less then $375, and it included free parking which you will not get at a downtown hotel.

Finally, on Monday morning while waiting for my travel team to get themselves around, I sat downstairs in the breakfast/lounge/lobby area. While I was working on some emails and talking on the phone, I watched the hotel staff clean and disinfect the entire lobby area, including elevators, bathrooms, etc. While I normally do not spend a lot of time in the this type of common area while traveling (I’m usually in my room), this is the first time I have seen cleaning such as this.

Overall, I would completely recommend this hotel, and would personally stay here again.

Stayed here as missed a connecting flight. So glad we were placed here. The reception staff (sorry guys, but didn't get your names) were super helpful, and after a traumatic taxi ride to the wrong hotel, they made us feel at ease. As we arrived late, the little shop was great as we were able to buy food/drinks, and they stocked everything you would need for a stay and reasonably priced. Hotel room was very comfortable, with fridge, microwave and coffee maker. They arranged a taxi for us back to the airport the following morning.

I traveled to Elmhurst on business and stayed in this hotel. It is an older hotel but cozy enough. The hotel was clean and the staff very professional and friendly. I really appreciate the attention to detail in my room. I actually met the housekeeper, Anthony. He was cleaning my room when I came back to the hotel to get some things I needed later in the afternoon. I really appreciate the attention to details in the cleanliness of my room he provided and was very friendly and professional. He had a vibrant and positive demeanor. I travel quite a bit on business and occasionally meet the housekeeping staff and it is rare to meet someone that takes pride in their work and can exhibit through their personality. He is an asset to your hotel. I would recommend staying at this hotel if you are visiting Elmhurst.

This hotel is a bit rundown and dated. Gold and green carpet, ratty couch. The bed was rock hard and the pillows were flat. The hot water took forever to heat up. On the positive side, the water pressure was good in the shower and the shower products smelled nice. All in all we will not be back.

Hi Angiem498, Thank you for taking the time to put up a review. I am very disappointed to see you disliked our hotel. Our décor is a bit more dated at this time due to continued taste preferences. Looks like you may not have had time to review our hotel pictures to see what we look like before you booked. Having a good nights rest is huge on starting your day. We've had many guests ask about our mattress provider and I am so sorry to learn that the style we have does not fit your comforts. We'd love to learn more about your visit to see if we can address any issues with the pillows and hot water. If you have time please contact the hotel and speak with a member of management. Thank you again for your visit and your reveiw. Kindly, Kimberly N., General Manager

Absolutely wonderful customer service. In fact, the gentleman that works the front desk in the afternoon/evening was a gem. We had my mother, my 2 daughters, my granddaughter and myself staying there. He made sure we had extra pillows, linen for the pull out couch, and lots of towels. I asked for the towels the first night, the second evening he had towels bagged up and handed them to us without us even asking. Who gives that level of service anymore? That is why I refer to him as a gem, he consistently demonstrated concern for comfort or needs. If we had to wait for a few minutes because he was helping another customer, he was always very apologetic.
We met the hotel manager, Ms. Nickels. She was a kind and wonderful person as well. I got the sense that the really takes pride in her work and her staff, as she should. She appreciated the positive feedback as often it is only the negative feelings that get shared.
The room was clean. I would agree with other posts that there are areas that are showing some age but that doesn’t bother me if things are clean, which they were. Plus, the pricing was great. If everything was brand new, I imagine we would have had to pay twice the price to stay there. They offer a nice breakfast each morning which is included with your stay.
We would absolutely stay there again!

We stayed on the 2nd floor for three nights this past weekend. I would have requested a different room but it was Thanksgiving weekend and the hotel was full. Our specific room (205) was in need of major updating/repair and cleaning. The first thing we noticed upon entering the room was the smell. It lingered all weekend. It smelled like sour yogurt mixed with a garlic breadstick. Seriously. Both of our kids also developed coughs while we were there, and I honestly believe it was due to mold. It was visible along the crease of the bathroom wall and ceiling. The closet and one of the walls had what appeared to be splatters of liquid (coffee?) on them, which was visible to the eye and clearly missed by housekeeping. The carpet was dirty throughout and ratted/torn along the seams near the bathroom. I didn't want to take off my shoes, and having to touch the carpet with my bare feet after showering grossed me out. There was a small hole in our ceiling that was covered by bright blue tape, and the walls throughout appeared dirty. There were stains on the sides of the box spring and one of our comforters had a large stain on it. I was thankful we had two beds because the couch was gross and dirty looking, I would not have wanted my kids sleeping on it. It pains me that we spent $400 staying here. I've stayed at other Springhill locations and this one is by far the worst. We contemplated canceling our last night, but it was too daunting to pack everything up with two young kids and move for just one night. Friends and family stayed in other rooms and theirs appeared to be in better shape. Would not stay here again. Staff, on the other hand, were very friendly.

I've spent hundreds of nights at Marriott properties and have usually had very good experiences with Springhill Suites, but this one is run down and very dirty.

Our room had candy on the floor and MULTIPLE spiderwebs in the room. We called the front desk, and they said housekeeping had left for the day. The next day housekeeping came while we were gone and left a note that they dusted the spiderwebs, but they were still there. We had to ask them to come back again.

The outside door from the parking lot didn't work most of our stay (it would work one day, stop working, someone would fix it, then it would stop working the next day.)

This hotel is in dire need of a renovation/update.

There aren't many restaurants directly nearby, you have to drive about 10 minutes to find decent restaurants.

I have late check-out due to my Marriott status and someone came to our room multiple times within one hour asking when we were leaving (even though we were approved for late check-out) because they said housekeeping was leaving for the day. I've never had a hotel be so aggressive with check-out (they were not full).

I would never stay here nor recommend this hotel.

Not that impressed with this property. I've stayed at many SpringHill Suites because I like what they normally offer...didn't find much of that here though (sadly). The room was lackluster (a bit outdated in some respects), and the bathroom (in particular the shower area) needs some work (moldy areas in some places, albeit small; ceiling needs touched up, other patchwork subpar). Breakfast was simply grab and go nonsense. By comparison, I stayed the same week in a Fairfield Inn (also a Marriott property) and it was absolutely fantastic in all aspects. This particular property, however, falls short in a few ways. I'm being nice with a 4-star review in my opinion, but that's only because I have had such great experiences with other SpringHill properties. I will point out, however, that this is one of the nicer properties available in the Elmhurst area so just keep that in mind.

We were in town for a hockey showcase along with several other teams that stayed at this hotel and the staff did an amazing job accommodating everyone. There was always plenty of food options/quantities for breakfast and the staff was great with regards to ensuring any special needs were handled. As an Ambassador Elite member, the service was exactly what I was expecting, and the staff did not disappoint.

We were directly across from the elevators and honestly we did not hear a thing. I think it had something to do with the unit being a suite type room, beds were away from the door. I can only assume the place was full to capacity with all the people at breakfast.
Answer from John M

The hotel has easy access to I-290, which will take you into Downtown Chicago without any tolls, but it does tend to get congested around the Chicago city limits. You would also have to pay to park just about anywhere you go. Metra Station is about a mile away and round trip Downtown for three adults would be about $34.50 I think. This is probably cheaper than most parking areas Downtown (plus cost of gas and rental). I think the hotel can shuttle you there (we didn't use). Station is in Downtown Elmhurst which is also nice to visit with quant little shops and good restaurants. If you can get a good deal at the Springhill Suites near O'Hare, they are close to a Blue Line (CTA) station, which is cheaper.
