First stay here and I was unsure what to expect. I don’t stay at Peninsula hotels often, preferring boutique places with character, but recent experiences persuaded me to ‘stay safe’ in an unfamiliar city.
First impressions: unremarkable from the street, and you take a lift up several floors from street level to the lobby. Check-in was efficient then another lift up to a high floor room.
The decor is classic modern, the layout good and the amenities excellent. Simple but modern lighting, easy to control, great iPads to operate everything, an excellent bathroom with large tub, and good wardrobe space and seating areas. You get the impression everything has been thought out properly, not compromised or done cheaply.
Service is excellent, the room service double Negroni probably gets the award for the most expensive I’ve ever had (over $60), laundry was returned nicely folded and wrapped the same day, and everything worked. You didn’t need a plumbing qualification to operate the shower. I used the 20th floor spa which was expensive but again first class.
Complaints: breakfast arrived 10 minutes late and the sink doesn’t hold water properly.
The room cost around $600 which after staying in other places recently (and elsewhere tonight) I thought was worth every penny.
This is a hotel I would recommend without hesitation.

We usually stay at the Ritz but wanted to try something new. The Peninsula was hands down the best we have stayed in Chicago. The details in the room make it so comfortable (best bedding ever, espresso machine with fine china, lap top cleaning kit placed next to your computer when turn your beds at night, it was our anniversary and they contacted me and asked for a wedding photo prior to our visit....they then had the photo on our TV screen when we got to our room with rose petals on the bed, the attentive staff is awesome (fresh flowers added to the tray when champagne was brought to the room). I am a picky traveler and this hotel is beyond perfectly clean, with a smiley and welcoming staff. The rooms are so beyond comfortable with nice closet space, dimming lights, black out curtains, and high end amenities in the room. Everyone so attentive to guest needs. We had the best stay and will only stay here from now on when we go to Chicago!!!

Our stay at The Peninsula Chicago was nothing short of extraordinary, particularly for our anniversary. The level of personalization provided by the hotel was beyond anything we’ve ever experienced before. While I don’t want to spoil the surprises for other guests, I can confidently say that their efforts were sensational. If you’re seeking a stay where you truly feel at the heart of the staff’s thoughts, this hotel is an absolute must. Christina Tang (Head of Guest Relations), shoutouts go to you - incredible.
The hotel itself is grand and gorgeous, exuding a timeless elegance that is matched only by the impeccable service. Every single staff member holds themselves to the highest standards, greeting you with smiles, warm welcomes, and friendly waves at every turn. It’s clear that exceptional service is woven into the fabric of The Peninsula Chicago’s culture.
The rooms are, without question, the best we have ever stayed in. Everything about them is designed for comfort and luxury, from the calming color palette to the perfectly sized TV, the cozy sofa, and the plush carpets. The bed and pillows provided a sleep experience like no other, and the bathroom was equally impressive, with a spacious shower, elegant mirrors, and thoughtful amenities. The housekeeping team goes above and beyond, surprising and delighting with their attention to detail and care.
One side note: while Z Bar is available on-site, we found the staff there to be rude—an experience that stood in stark contrast to the hotel itself. However, this didn’t diminish our overall experience, as Chicago offers countless great bars to explore. Alternatively, you can simply enjoy the open and welcoming hotel lobby, where the drinks menu is extensive, and the service remains outstanding.
The Peninsula Chicago offers an experience like no other, combining luxury, personalization, and world-class service to create unforgettable memories. We can’t recommend it highly enough and are already looking forward to our return.

We decided a few months ago to visit Chicago for a weekend. We had stayed at other hotels in the past, and wanted to try something new so we booked The Peninsula near Michigan Avenue. We definitely made the right choice. The Peninsula offers unparalleled service and is a stunningly beautiful, perfectly appointed hotel. We enjoyed the original artwork as well as the design of the pied de terre and lobby. The rooftop bar is a must to visit. Beyond the physical facilities, the one thing that we noted was the exceptional service and attentiveness of the employees. It almost felt like a harkening back to a more genteel, elegant time in history. Our room was opulent and spacious. The linens and towels were luxurious and pristine. The doorman, baggage handler and front desk were all so friendly and proficient. The Peninsula is hotel designed for dignitaries and those wishing a special experience that is far above and beyond the typical hotel stay. The rooms are well insulated, so one does not hear the other guests moving about. Each room offers a work area that exceeds a home office. If traveling for business, one could easily use the options provided in the room rather than rely on a separate space. We certainly enjoyed our stay at The Peninsula. We highly recommend it for travelers looking for a cut above typical luxury hotels.

What an amazing hotel. My mom and I stayed here last weekend while I attended the restaurant show. Rooms were beautiful and extremely well appointed. The Peninsula has thought of EVERYTHING- from an in room printer/fax machine to a drawer stocked with all the essentials for working (stapler, highlighter etc.), dedicated space for your luggage etc. A great deal of thought and care went into designing the rooms and it shows. Also, how can you beat watching tv while in the bathtub.
While there is some road noise at night, we did not experience any hotel noise.
The in room tech ranging from the digital light controls and in room tablets that allowed you to control everything was cool! We had some issues with some of the outlets not working and a few being loose which was promptly addressed when brought to the hotel’s attention.
Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and provided wonderful service.
The pool area could use a bit of an upgrade but it’s nice they even have one. The Four Seasons pool has them beat, although it far exceeds the Ritz Carlton’s. I haven’t been to the Langham but supposedly they also have a nice indoor pool area. However, it was clean and well maintained. The outdoor deck was on the smaller side, but had beautiful furniture and sunblock. I’d imagine it would be great on a beautiful day. The spa looked stunning, I hope to return one day.
We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the lobby. Both meals were delicious and enjoyed in an elegant environment. If you’re bringing a vehicle I highly recommend booking their breakfast and parking package- it was of great value.
Of course you cannot beat the location for walking and seeing all that Chicago has to offer!

We were well-taken care of from start to finish. Sweet touches for the kids were appreciated, from cute bears to special treats. The view and location were amazing, especially for people watching St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The concierge was extremely helpful, setting up anything we needed. Shopping, dining and sightseeing were all easily accessible from the location, and we really enjoyed all aspects of this hotel!

My husband and I, received top notch service throughout our stay, check in was warm and welcoming, we arrived late and the front desk agent told us Z bar was still open for food and made sure our bags were taken to the room. Z bar that evening was great with excellent service and friendly staff. Our room was stunning with great views of the water tower.
Service was equally wonderful at the lobby restaurant for both breakfast and lunch. Try the fried rice for breakfast yum! He took advantage of the pool with stunning views of the city and then enjoyed lunch at Shanghai terrace. My husband ordered the Beef chow fun and I did the beef with veggies and a delicious (yet expensive, but worth it) glass of champagne. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to come back again. Shout out to Morgan at the concierge desk.

I’ll start by saying I debated for hours between The Peninsula and The Langham before making a reservation. When I checked in the doorman wasn’t overly helpful and the front desk was a little curt. No one provided an explanation about the property and services and none of the COVID protocols listed were followed.
The property and rooms are attractive though it could definitely use a little TLC. There were gouges in the wood workspace, scuffs around the baseboards, and scratches in the leather tech valet.
The bigger problem, however, was cleanliness. My first room was not cleaned properly between guests. The amenities were half empty and there was a yet-to-dry moisturizer thumbprint on the bathroom vanity. There was also noticeable debris on the workstation glass and phone.
The tech worked well for a hotel, but the bedside tablets were Galaxy A models from 2014 that clearly needed to be replaced. The battery would drain 20-30% in standby mode when not on the charger. Chromecast reset itself every half hour and the remote in the workstation drawer wouldn’t charge; the last is an issue the housekeeper should be checking, especially before putting it on the nightstand during turndown.
I get things happen but, at $500 a night, those problems should be few and far between. Extensive room wear is not acceptable at a luxury property; put it out of service and make the necessary repairs. Don’t put guests in a beat up rooms.
The biggest problem by far, however, was service. Room service just left my order right inside the door after asking is they should set it up in the room; as someone who had back surgery a few weeks ago, pushing a heavy 35ft from the door to the table wasn’t an easy task (nor enjoyable when you’re paying $100 for lunch). When I’d call the front desk or concierge with basic questions there wasn’t any urgency or even the thought about going the extra mile. I asked where I could find the toothpaste I like; there was an immediate “I don’t know” without any type of “I’ll check into it” follow up—by the way, I found the toothpaste literally across the street so it wouldn’t have been hard for them to grab it and charge my room.
Service was an ongoing issue though. I’d use PenChat and it would take 10 minutes for another “I don’t know” type of reply. The phone would ring a half dozen times before it was picked up, and when I tried to call down at check out, I was put on hold for eight minutes and decided to just carry my stuff downstairs on my own—when I got to the desk, there was literally no one waiting. Not really the service I expected.
You can tell when a manager is passionate about their property; Staff is happy, service is top notch, and the property is pristine. The Peninsula was none of these. It is in dire need of change. I wouldn’t expect this poor of service and lax standards at a hotel that costs $100 a night; at $500, it’s simply inexcusable.
I clearly made the wrong choice on this trip and will pick The Langham next time.

Wonderful hotel with outstanding service. We stayed for 2 nights during a very busy weekend in Chicago ( air & water show). Everything from check in to check out was excellent. The hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. Bedding is comfortable, bathrooms are stunning. Staff we encountered were warm and welcoming. They brought my husband a shaving kit very quickly when his electric razor died while getting ready to attend a wedding. Pool area and outdoor terrace are very nice. Z bar is a nice, albeit too small for its popularity, outdoor terrace is a plus. It certainly has a “high end” price tag but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing weekend ( or weekday!) respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.
