we've been going to Chicago for 20+ years and have stayed at the The Four Seasons, Sofitel, The James and The Peninsula and but the Gwen has fast become our favorite. Staff is awesome, rooms are spacious with terrific amenities (individual reading lights), lots of plugs to recharge accessories, great bedding/pillows, powerful showers. etc. Self park is 2 minutes away....

We had a nice stay at The Gwen. The room we reserved wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so we were offered some drink tickets while we waited. As a platinum SPG member was given the option for free breakfast. The room had a nice view of Hancock tower. Breakfast the next day was nice, however it wasn't "free" but...

We stayed 1 night over New Year's Eve, great location, nice lobby, large room, large bathroom, but was dissapointed in the lack of friendliness and communication of the staff. Didn't have time to make a reservation at any of the great restaurants in the area so we booked Circa in the hotel, very sorry we did, it's located in the...

I was impressed as soon as we walked in to the hotel. This was one of my first times in a "boutique" hotel, and I enjoyed it. The room was spacious, the decorating was tasteful and impressive and the staff was friendly. I will say you get what you pay for, and my only critique is of the bathtub. Wile...

This hotel is ideally located between rush street and Michigan ave. Perfect location for shopping and surrounded by great restaurants and bars. The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. Our room had a flat screen TV along with a bose surround sound. I would highly recommend this hotel for your next visit to downtown chicago.

I would give it a 10 if I could. This hotel was incredible. The decor, service, accomodations and food was all exceptional. I cannot say enough about our experience here and the service we had. Impeccable, if in Chicago it's a must stay. We had our dog during our stay as well and the hotel is extremely well insulated with...

The reverberation from the drilling during the renovation goes on and on. Nothing on the website warns you of the renovation nor are you warned at check-in. The hotel staff once you are awoken by the noise are indifferent. This hotel deserves a rating below 1.

Hotel was really nice and comfortable - rooms were well appointed, comfortable beds, nice linens, toiletries, etc The staff was very friendly and the lobby was really comfy - definitely a place to hang out! Loved the Vosges chocolate truffle and wine pairing - delicious and fun! And the best thing is the location - if you are a shopper...

This hotel was in the heart of shopping in Chicago. The address is Rush st, but if you go out the street level mall entrance you are right on Michigan Avenue. Walking distance to Millenium Park, State street, Eataly, Watertower place and much more! Clean and very quiet, this is a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of the best...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ideally situated in the heart of the Windy City, The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Chicago is rooted in the history and heritage of the city's Magnificent Mile, paying homage to the 1930s in both its architecture and ethos. The newest member of Starwood Hotels and Resorts' prestigious group of Luxury Collection Hotels is an artistic icon that exudes timeless style and elegance. Housed within the landmark McGraw-Hill Building, The Gwen features an Art Deco aesthetic amplified by a sculptural façade, famously created by artist Gwen Lux in 1928. The idea of a female artisan making her mark in a predominantly male design city depicts an exciting atmosphere of change. The building has been home to many stories in its illustrious past, and today The Gwen provides the ideal canvas for guests to create their own distinct memories. This 300-room hotel includes 199 King accommodations with separate soaking tubs and showers, 54 Double/Double accommodations, as well as 34 luxurious suites, including some featuring beautiful terraces overlooking Michigan Avenue. The inventory, which averages 380 square feet per guest room, includes rooms that are ADA-accessible. Guests of The Gwen can enjoy the use of plush bathrobes and slippers to make their stay more comfortable, as well as complimentary in-room basic Internet access (wired and wireless), a 42-inch flat screen television with HD stations, a surround sound system, a Keurig brewing system, and an in-room safe. Offering the best of Chicago from right outside its doors, The Gwen is located on the Magnificent Mile, minutes away from premier shopping, world-class dining, and exciting cultural and entertainment hotspots, such as Navy Pier and Millennium Park. Connected to The Shops at North Bridge, The Gwen provides guests with enclosed access to upscale retailers, such as Nordstrom Michigan Avenue, and Stuart Weitzman. ... more   less
