It doesn’t get more Chicago than this 1893 icon of old-world design and good cheer. Originally home to an elite men’s club, the Chicago Athletic Association hotel building is an architectural gem dating back to 1893. Converted to a boutique hotel and urban playground of the same name in 2015, the property sports 240 guest rooms, seven bars & restaurants, the city's first Topgolf Swing Suite, and a downtown location central to Millennium Park, Lake Michigan, The Loop, and more. The Chicago Athletic Association hotel offers an artfully-restored historic stay along with some of the city’s most-lauded dining and drinking outlets.

Our main complaint is that, with the exception of two tiny cubbies next to the mini bar, our room had no drawers or shelves for our clothes. It was like some kind of perverse joke. Also the bathroom had no hooks to hang towels. Not sure if the expectation is that we are just supposed to throw them on the floor. (Also, the thermostat in our room was set to 54 degrees when we came in.) It's a shame when a hotel goes all out to achieve a certain hip aesthetic, but doesn't manage to get the basics right. Give your guests a few drawers to put their clothes. Not that hard. On the plus side, we had a lovely view of Grant Park and the lobby and Circle Room bar are beautiful.

If you like a touch of history and a great guest experience I highly recommend a visit to the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. The architecture and design respect the history of the building and the staff could not be more accommodating. With so many F&B options you don't even need to leave the hotel!

We stayed at the Chicago Athletic Association for a long weekend getaway. The staff was welcoming and accommodating, even offering us breakfast and moving our room to accommodate for an error that seems to have been made by a third party booking company. Evan was especially helpful, but all staff members we interacted with were great. The rooms and common areas were clean and well decorated. The game room was fun, the drawing room was perfect for breakfast and sitting around in the evenings, and the food and drinks were good. The views from our Millennium Park view were perfect. Our only regret was not booking a reservation early enough for the Milk Room! Definitely have to visit again so that we can go there.

We loved our stay at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel! The staff is warm, welcoming, and knowledgable. The architecture of the building itself is stunning. This hotel is so unique, it's like no other place you've stayed. The restaurants in the hotel are all very different and amazing in their own special ways. No matter what kind of food or beverage experience you like, you'll find something you like here. You could visit this hotel and never the leave the building and have an incredible trip. But you wouldn't actually do that with the great location near the theatre district and Millennium Park. Hands down the best place to stay in Chicago!
