While it sounded like a great place to stay, we spoke with the owners about staying there in May 2015 and were told that the Stone House stopped operating as a B&B in December 2014. The only other hotel in Chester is the Best Western - or drive 14 miles across the river to Perryville, MO for the usual slug...

We had a wonderful time in Chester staying at the Stone House, I want to go back. The house is beautiful, the Bedouin Room is so comfortable. The nice breezes, the birds singing, the train and the barges on the river, all in the background and very peaceful. Sandra is so warm and accommodating- a great cook. If I could...

Stayed for two nights in early January 2014. Host and hostess made us feel very welcome and room was pleasant. Great situation as able to walk into town and plenty of good food places. Pan to go again.

This is a solid choice for a quiet and comfortable place to stay. The Stone House has great views and tons of warm character. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast was simply delicious. Sandra, the owner, must have read our minds when we woke for breakfast each day. She had a large stack of Amish oatmeal pancakes, fresh fruit,...

We went to The Stone House for our anniversary in January. The history of the house was amazing, as was the conversation over breakfast with Sandra. The room view was gorgeous. I loved waking up to the view. We will be going back again!

We had a chance to slip out of the St. Louis metro area and we didn't have to go far to find the perfect hideaway! The Stone House in Chester, Illinois was just the ticket for a little out of town rest and relaxation. We were right at home from the moment we arrived at the old Presbyterian church converted...

We loved the Stone House--its location overlooking the river, its decor, its lovely innkeeper and tasty breakfast. It's everything one could want for a relaxing stay. I wish I lived there. And thank you, Sandra, for arranging a tour of Kaskaskia Island. I would not have thought to ask. I hope we can come back again.

What a delightful, peaceful, relaxing place! Our room was lovely (upstairs, with a great view of the Mississippi River), clean, and quite comfortable. Sandra, the on-site owner, suggested restaurants for dinner and helped us with directions. The next morning, we enjoyed coffee and conversation with Sandra and her "grand dog," Joey (he was visiting for a few days) on the...

We stayed in the Bedouin room for one night. Chester is a sleepy town, and we found The Stone House to be a great place to spend a quiet evening away from the big city. In fact, I'd say The Stone House may be the star of Chester. Sitting on the covered front porch in the evening, watching the sun...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Originally the First Presbyterian Church built in 1846, The Stone House sits on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The church was converted into a private residence after lightning struck and destroyed the bell tower in the early 1920's. The house has magnificent exposed hand-hewn ceiling beams, deep window seats and is beautifully furnished with accents of interesting decor collected from extensive travel in foreign lands. The scenic view in a quiet and quaint setting is a sure method of relaxation. ... more   less
