3 long time fishing buddies ventured down from NC to Chub Cay for the late March and early April sailfish bite and we’re not disappointed. First, a strong compliment to Chub the marina is first class and the service food and accommodations were all excellent . we stayed right on the beach in the one br cabanas and you can walk over to the pool and swim up bar for an afternoon Painkiller by Portia the bartender ! Then restaurant serves excellent food and the bartender Larvado and Bruce and Brian and are first class . We caught a wahoo and the chef made up a wahoo tartre stack that was delicious ; see photos. My buddies tried the pork chop, the steak and my personal fav is the Chub Farms salad with a grouper lightly blackened. We fished 7 out of 8 days and released 5-7 on sailfish during the Chub Key tournament( which we were not entered in). Many of the long time Carolina captains said the billfish bite was slow so we were excited to have released the 5 sails . One day we ventured onto the flats behind the little airstrip saw a multiple schools of large bones but we did not get any hookups but not bad for an unguided trip! plan your trip to Chub and many there had families but this is a “country club for fisherman” so be aware that this is not Atlantis of some resort area it is in the middle of the Caribbean and designed for serious fisherman with desire for creature comfort. Also shout out to Rye at the front desk my trip was planned two years in advance and due to Covid we had to skip 2020 of course. The resort was very accommodating . Finally no trip to Chub is complete without the famous Nauti Rooster bar it is a local dive bar with a fishing tee shirt decoration motif in an older metal garage near the maintenance shed and cabinet shop; see Lemon whe runs the place with a smile, try the cracked conch the lobster poppers or the Spring rolls you will not be disappointed ! Cold beers, ring toss , and a dominos table as well as pool complete the atmosphere of local flavor!…
If you like to fish then this is the place for you! Nice marina. Minimal ship's store but expansion on the way. Not much about the island screams Bahamas other than the color of the water. There is not much to do and there is one place to eat and it is "institutional " at best. The service is hit or miss. Needs less"no's" and more "no problems" ! Many more places in The Bahamas to enjoy!
We regularly travel to the Bahamas, almost usually aboard our personal boat, and Chub has become our "go to" location for a perfect mix of fishing, relaxing, snorkeling, and eating/drinking. The facility continues to be improved every time we visit and the staff is friendlier and more helpful than ever. While priced a bit higher than other options in the out islands of the Bahamas, the marina and ancillary facilities are some of the best we have experienced. From greeting the marina management and fuel dock, tying up to an assigned slip, COVID precautions and protocols, we feel it is one of the safest locations around to enjoy the activities that are offered on and off island. (and of course the fishing is without question world class).
We spent a couple of nights ducking some weather the place was spotless modern and everything worked as it should very nice beach pool and hot tub Dinner was very good loved the conch The staff was so kind and friendly We look forward to returning on another trip 🙏🏻
We manage an island very close to Chub Cay and because covid has prevented us from travelling this year, my husband suprised me for my birthday with a weekend at Chub Cay. Well it turned out to be my best birthday yet! From the minute we arrived the staff made us feel looked after! Keana and Keisha gave us the best check in we have ever had and even sang happy birthday to me when we got to the room (which was beautifully decorated with balloons and rose petals!) Montura was always helpful and friendly and the three made up fantastic front desk crew! The cabana was exquisitely clean and fresh and had everything you need. The beach was divine and the restaurant (that we basically had all to ourselves) was welcoming. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had a full body massage with Crystal who is an incredible massage therapist and I swear has magic hands! Definitely take a look in the shop, it has SO many goodies and very reasonable! I cant say enough about Chub Cay, thank you to all the staff and management for such a wonderful break and we cannot wait to return!…
