dori lagoon bungalow was our favourite place in all of 5 weeks of vanuatu travel! we had made an advance reservation, and received the best welcome ever (think island welcome song + flower leis, plus a fresh coconut to drink).
cecil and ruti put a lot of effort into making our stay enjoyable, and the food was amazing - e.g. banana fritters for breakfast, local produce and fresh fish, even lobster, for lunch and dinner, and always fresh fruit for dessert. all covered in the 3000 vatu per person price.
the bungalow is largely built from local materials (giant clam shell as a sink, coral floor in the bathroom, branch forks as clothes holdhooks; exceptions: western style flush toilet and western shower) and was basically covered in fresh hibiscus flowers. there were two hammocks and an outside table+bench under a small coconut tree.
cecil took us up to the rock of rah for free. since we were there for christmas, we were honored guests at the family day lunch (dec. 25), which was a special experience.
if you get a chance to stay at dori lagoon bungalow, don't miss it!

Rhutie, Cecil and Tracey were the best hosts you could ever imagine!! From the first second you arrive they make you feel part of their family.
The accommodation is nice and comfortable and food is just out of this world!! For most of the meals we had something different and delicious with fresh fruit and fish.
And no doubt that If you need anything they will do their best to help you!!
For those looking for simplicity and genuine smiles this remote island is an amazing hidden gem and we would've stayed 3 more months if we hadn't had to go back to reality.
Immense thank you to Dori lagoon.... and all the people of Rah

Spent a few nights on Rah with the beautiful Ruthie, Cecil and their daughter Tracey. Beach bungalow is out of this world! Double bed, ensuite bathroom and solar lighting all building using local materials. Really good food and an amazing view overlooking the lagoon and the mountain on Motalava island. Cecil can take your fishing or on a village tour.
