The Lodge is a beautiful property with very good service and a stunning setting, at least if your a golfer. Our room was quite large and the shower is the best I have experienced this side of Vienna. Giving then less than an excellent score is I will admit unfair but at least at he moment the water view you pay for is dominated by a huge, admittedly interesting, salvage operation . The entrance to the property, while distant from the lodge, is the subject of major road work which makes exiting to go to the Cloisters time consuming . The main restaurant is closed and the more casual restaurant, great view of the stranded ship, while it has good and friendly service is hardly more than average food wise. Finally I have a problem calling the butler service for ice. It is becoming more and more common in expensive hotels to do away with mini refrigerators and self serve ice machines. I don't mind tipping for service, particularly now, but having to call someone to bring ice or iron a shirt I failed to pack properly ( I think we has an iron at the lodge but will that be the case next time?) bothers me. This is a well run property and a golfers dream but until the road work is finished and the other restaurants opened it is less than I expected.…
Great way to escape. beach/golf/food/excellent service. Would highly recommend to families or couples. Lots of history surrounds the property, dating back centuries, and great experience from beginning to end
Excellent room but service was poor.. Need more wait staff. Tried to make a reservation in the Oak Room for dinner both on line and by telephone but was told they were not taking reservations, then found out the night of our visit and they were taking reservations but they were booked for the night.
Visited with my brother in late February, overall a good experience and we will be back. I used the transportation service from the airport, my driver was friendly and helpful on the way in to the hotel. I would absolutely do this again vs. renting a car. The lodge itself is well-appointed, like having a hotel room above a very nice private golf club. I booked with AMEX FHR and it seemed we received a slightly upgraded corner room (#6) with great views of the course and ocean. I would ask for it again next time! Room and bathroom were well appointed and in-line with a 5-star property. The overall service was very good, though the “butlers” did nothing remarkable during our stay. We had dinner in the Oak Room two nights, and once for breakfast. Excellent food and service on all occasions. In addition to the regular menu, they served a limited steak menu from Colt & Alison since the steakhouse was closed for the season. This provided Plenty of variety on the menu for multiple meals during our trip. My only disappointment at the lodge was the lack of lobby / server staffing around sunset late in the afternoon. It’s a beautiful setting and lots of guests from the larger resort stop by for cocktails with the bagpiper. Great setting, but we had to track down servers to order drinks etc.; seemed like they were understaffed during a key experience. Recommend the resort add staff during these hours - I’m sure the cocktails will more than cover the cost :). The men’s locker room is a must see, we received excellent food and service over several visits during our stay. We played golf at the plantation and seaside courses. Both were in excellent condition and have great layouts. They ran out of caddies on our second round, which is odd for a high-end golf resort, especially since we requested them weeks advance. I also visited the spa over at the cloister to recover from golf. Great setting and services, I highly recommend making this part of your trip. Overall a good golf trip, even if not perfect service. Will be back post-covid to give it another shot. …
This is the first time we had dinner at the oak room while visiting sea island. Great menu selection and food, but the star of the show were the cocktails. Very unique and different cocktails choose from. My recommendation is the go with the Clear Skies. Will guarantee you have never had a margarita like this. One of if not the best one over ever had. Definitely the most unique margarita I’ve ever had. Great food and service, but you get that at every place at the resort.
