Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Premier Inn Aberdeen South (Portlethen) Hotel is often praised for its clean and inviting atmosphere, with guests consistently appreciating the tidy rooms. While the staff are generally commended for their friendliness, some guests have experienced delays in service. The hotel offers good value, but there are occasional concerns over extra charges and the restaurant's quality. Although the rooms are recognized for their cleanliness and comfort, there is room for improvement in maintenance and soundproofing.
The hotel's location is deemed convenient by many, with easy access to attractions and ample parking, though a few note the necessity of having a car. The complimentary Wi-Fi is considered inadequate by several guests, who suggest opting for the premium service. Cleanliness is a strong point, yet there have been minor issues reported with housekeeping services.

We stayed here on our way to Braemar, and it was one of the better budget hotels we've used over the past few years. The staff were friendly and the room was cosy and comfortable. I would certainly consider using this Premier Inn again.

Good location for Aberdeen and seeing the Castles in the area. We had a one night stay after travelling up from Edinburgh. We were given room number 12 in the reception building... refuse this room if at all possible as it smells and feels damp, and is in need of a new bath panel and furniture due to an obvious leak. We went for an early meal at the Brewers Fayre which was up to standard, but the tables were very sticky. Staff in the Brewers Fayre were very friendly and helpful. Back in the room and found that the bed side tables had not been cleaned after the previous occupants had left. There were three sticky cup rings in the dust. ( not Covid clean?) We were tired after our journed and could not be bothered for a one night stay to ask to be moved. I cleaned the tables myself with wet tissue. These defects were reported to reception in the morning as we were leaving I do have to say that the cleanliness of the bathroom was spotless, and so was the bedding. Cannot understand why this room is in service though, until it has been repaired. Stay in Premier Inns quite a lot, and this is not one of the best.

We spent two nights here as a family of 4 in a family room. The room wasn't huge but was clean and comfortable. The hotel was extremely quiet and well located just off the A92 making travel in and out of Aberdeen and the surrounding area easy. The room was absolutely fantastic value at £35 a night. We paid extra for breakfast and although it was a reasonable price with the kids eating free, covid restrictions mean it's an all you can eat breakie without the buffet. Table service doesn't lend itself well to this - service was a little slow and they seemed to prefer you ordered everything when you first sat down which wasn't really practical. When you did want to order more you felt like you were being something of a nuisance and it could take some time to get a member of staff's attention. That aside we will definitely use the hotel as a base again for our regular trips to the area.

Their accessible rooms are most definitely not! There is only 1 wet room in the whole complex and despite booking and paying 5weeks in advance and explaining my elderly Mother's limited mobility in a follow up call...we didn't get it. Nevertheless we persevered until it came to the morning after our arrival. There was no hot water and the shower head (which when fully extended was only 2feet high )was broken so there was zero pressure to wash with. The result? 20mins of some contorting on my 88year old Mum's part, lifting on mine getting soaked from side spray, we gave up and resorted to just a top and tail sink wash - not ideal. I complained at reception and they promised to get it checked whilst we were out. When I returned in the evening, reception staff confirmed that the water heater appeared to be on standby but this had been rebooted which should resolve the temperature issue. As for the shower head there were no spares so nothing could be done as they were fully booked. The Receptionist was lovely and said the Maintenance team checked the shower and said it worked fine. I refuted that, pointing out i was the paying customer but as i was tired and sweaty i didn't want it to ruin what was a happy time for us. Staff suggested taking a bath instead however as I pointed out, there was no hoist to assist getting in and out. So we endured a second morning of tepid water at best (the reboot did not resolve anything) and a sink wash yet again. I can't upload the video I took but have attached a still photo of what the Maintenance team deemed was a working shower.
The weather was unusually hot for Aberdeen so the fact that could not fully utilise the facilities we had paid for i.e. take a hot shower and refresh ourselves meant we experienced 2 sticky uncomfortable nights sleep.
These facilities were not fit for purpose and greatly inconvenienced my Mother and I. This isn't our first stay in an accessible Premier Inn room hence why we were shocked it was so bad!!
To be clear staff interaction, friendliness and hotel location were all very good but to be honest the purportedly accessible low baths should be ripped out and wet rooms installed instead... they have the space to do it and avoid inconveniencing future guests. This put a real downer on our family's celebration of my younger Cousin's PhD convocation.
Final insult to injury was the survey link which did not work properly and would not allow me to take up my complaint with head office so I'm posting my review here so that others don't suffer as we did.

Where do I start ….
Booked for two adults towels in the room for one adult so had to go to reception to get some towels ‘
Found the bin in the room hadn’t been emptied by the cleaner … so told reception who then informed me that there is a bin outside so I had to empty the bin and ask for a bin liner !!
So go back into the room found a safety pin on the floor and where the bin was there was a lid of some type of pen on the floor .
There was all tea stains on the wall and the bedside table had snot and bogies all on the table which we had to clean ourselves.
Later on we put the tv on to find half the channels missing and wasn’t in chronological order … no TV guide .. obviously someone had messed with it ‘
We informed the receptionist who was totally disinterested… as it was hot in the room i asked for a fan again the receptionist said IF she had TIME she would look but then said well there probably isn’t one anyway … so we had to go out and purchase a fan !!
The room looked and felt as though it had not been cleaned and the receptionist was rude and totally not interested in what we had to say .
Don’t get me started on the breakfast if you like your breakfast nice and cold then you will enjoy it
Scrambled egg, mushroom, beans, sausage and bacon cold hard like cardboard were inedible … the only thing hot was the toast so at a price of £9.50 each it was expensive toast !!
We wondered why it was so empty when we went down for breakfast we now know why food terroamd cold
Just to add we have been coming to this particular premier inn for nearly 5 years and it has gradually slowly gone down hill … this was by far the worst experience ever.
I know what the reply will be … we will pass your complaints onto management…..
Avoid this premier inn

Overall this is a standard Premier Inn so you get what you would expect. It gave me everything I needed for a short trip at a decent price, however, during my 3 night stay there was no housekeeping service visit to my room. So the same mugs and glasses for 3 days, no change of towels and the bin not emptied. Given the current pandemic we are in and the level of cleanliness required I found this to be pretty poor service which surprised me greatly. My visit was for a family medical emergency and I was late back each night to the room and left early each day. I couldn't be bothered to complain as I had more important things to be concerned about and each day I fully expected the oversight to be resolved the following day. Unfortunately it wasn't so a rather unexpected and disappointing stay. Location was very good next to the A90 but there was no noticeable road noise and very convenient services on the other side of the dual carriageway at the Portlethen retail park.

Stayed here for the weekend. First of all the young girl on reception was lovely on the Saturday at check in. When we got to the room it was tiny for two adults and two children. Room temp was 23 degrees with no air conditioning and the window only opened a tiny bit so no air. Our little girls bed was awful, hard and uncomfortable, with no Mattress! When I let reception know the lady said she would change the bed for a different one or put a mattress on but neither was done instead a duvet was put under the sheet so when our little girl woke up on the second morning around 1am I switched beds with her to allow her to sleep which meant I didn't sleep at all. On leaving I mentioned it again and the lady was apologetic but that was it. I have now made a complaint! The breakfast on the first morning was lovely with plenty of choice but the breakfast on the second morning was awful, there was no semi slimmed milk, no orange juice, no tea pots and when the cooked breakfast came out it was awful and my husband was given one sausage, one piece of bacon, one half of a tomatoe and one hash brown! No way is this enough for a grown man. Also when we first arrivedtthe door to the a joining room was open so had someone been in their they could have taken our things or looked into our room or vice versa!

Love Premier Inn, so easy. Staff doing a great job to keep customers safe. Can I suggest that all guests who are having dinner or breakfast are informed about the need for Qr code apps on their phones? It is a great idea but we were totally unprepared. It took 3 goes before we found an app that worked! It would have helped to know beforehand. You need a QR code app to provide info for track and trace, to access the menu and pay for the meal. Really great idea and it did not spoil our visit at all. All part of living in this bizarre new pandemic reality!

This was by far the most cost effective accommodation and provided a comfortable room for several nights. Good sized, clean and well laid out rooms. The beds were comfortable and there was a good sized bath and shower. The wi-fi is poor unless you can afford to pay for the premium service. Organising room cleanup and fresh towels is not automatic and we determined it was not worth the hassle. The staff were pleasant and did a great job and were available when needed. The restaurant meals were not expensive and provided basic but reasonable meals with a decent variety available.

We have stayed here in the past and not had any complaints, but on this occasion we stayed in room 108. After our first night there first thing in the morning I went to reception to complain about the bed. It was lumpy, it moved as soon as you sat on it and made very loud squeaky noises as soon as you were actually getting into the bed, both my wife and I had hardly any sleep and my wife had a backache too. Although I told the receptionist all this nothing was done to remedy the problem knowing that we had a further two nights to stay. I was told that my comments would be noted on the system and was given a card with the contact details to complain to head office. I emailed our complaint on that very day and have still not heard back.
As the main selling point of premier inn is a good nights sleep guaranteed I feel this should have been rectified with immediate effect. After three nights of sleeping in the most uncomfortable bed ever We were very happy to be leaving. It seems it’s a lottery of good and bad depending what room you get to stay in.
