Detailed Reviews
We recently rented unit 18 for a week. It had everything we needed, a large spacious well-stocked kitchen with new appliances, comfortable beds, good Wi-Fi, a smart TV, and a DirectTV package. The unit was very clean and looked to have been recently renovated. The owner also provided beach chairs, an umbrella, coolers, and a beach cart. There were plenty of towels as well. The unit sits in the middle of the property, about a five minute walk to the beach, and is next to the pool. The overall community is very family friendly and quiet. Though we didn't rent bicycles, they are available, as is shuffleboard, tennis, and a nice outdoor sitting area with a couple of gas grills. It is no more than a five minute drive to the restaurant and shopping areas.
About our only complaint was a musty smelling couch and cushions, but that was relatively minor. It's also worth noting that the laundry room is shared by multiple units, and is accessible via a locked door from our unit.
We would definitely rent in Seashells again, and specifically in this unit.

We stayed in Unit 37 at Sea Shells of Sanibel for a girls trip and had the best time! The condo was beautifully decorated, excellently stocked and very clean. The beds were very comfortable and the complex was quiet and peaceful without it being a deserted vacation spot. We easily rented bikes from the office and enjoyed the expansive bike trails on the island. We highly recommend brunch at the Island Cow and dinner at Mud Bugs! The beach was just a short walk across the street and the condo had everything we needed to accommodate the four of us at the beach. There was rain in the afternoons but we played some of the games included in the condo. Another big hit was the countertop ice maker! We cannot wait to return to Sea Shells at Sanibel and will most definitely stay in Unit 37 again!

For the price, this place is pretty nice. We were there in 2016, Nice pool, tennis court and right across the street from the beach, 5 minute walk. Rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. I think we paid half of what they wanted for a beach front so it was worth it. FYI, rent a bike for the week much easier than walking around and downtown Sanibel is fun.

We stayed for one week in the Sea Shells of Sanibel (Unit 37). We are my wife, two kids (3 and 1,5 years old) and I. We loved it so much that we asked if it's possible to extend for another week. Unfortunately the Sea Shells was already fully booked. So, we rented another apartment on Sanibel Island close to the lighthouse for another week. This was very nice too. But if we would have the choice, we would go for the Sea Shells. Why? The apartment was just perfect. Very well equipped. Stylish, nice and clean. Same like the other apartment. But what made the Sea Shells really special was the people who stayed there (a lot of older very nice people, who made us feel extraordinary welcome) and the beach that is just across the street. In the other apartment we even had direct beach access (without crossing a street). But still the beach at the Sea Shells was way better (more spacious). And it is the perfect spot to watch the really amazing unset on Sanibel Island (that you can't see if you are closer to the lighthouse). Overall, we can really recommend to stay at the Sea Shells of Sanibel.

Never again. I don’t know why they charge a cleaning fee. My unit 21 had white stains all over the couch. The floors were filthy. The bathrooms atrocious and dirty. And the dust on the blinds and the headboards and at least 2” of dust between the mattress and the box spring. My daughter suffered so bad from her asthma and allergies that she contemplated sleeping in the car it was so bad. To boot my husband accidentally left very expensive shirts there and when we called 3 days later to ask we were told they were thrown away. Find that hard to believe they definitely took them they were very expensive dress shirts. Very disappointed. Worst part is the check out instructions jewelry say no need to in make the bed well obviously because you do t change the sheets my sheets had sand on them my fist night getting there. Wouldn’t even thi long sitting on the couch with white stains all over it. I thoroughly cleaned it with Clorox wipes but still wouldn’t sit on it. We sat on the kitchen chairs to watch tv. Worst stay ever!!!!!

Sorry you had so many problems with the unit but you should have come by the office and we could have worked on some of the issues or moved you to another unit. We will be having a talk to the cleaners regarding some of the issues and then this just lets us know that there needs to be deep cleans done twice a year instead of only doing them in October. Please come back to visit us and stay in another unit on your next trip to Sanibel.

Stayed for 4 days/3 nights in unit 14. Clean, spacious unit with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Good communication by host; entire property well kept; just a short walk to private beach access. Location is on quieter side of island but close enough to everything you need. Bailey’s general Store a short bike ride away as well as several good spots to eat. Would definitely recommend.

Just returned from our yearly family vacation on Sanibel. This is our third year with the "Sea Shells" family and we have yet to be disappointed.
We have stayed in a different unit each time which has differed in décor and layout, yet have each been equally comfortable. This year, our unit came equipped with board games, several DVD and VCR movies, beach chairs, mats and umbrellas! Mind you, you also have use of the pool, tennis court and BBQ areas.
Beach access is still a short walk from the complex (two driveways down) and the beach itself was as beautiful as ever. (Note: If you want to be closer to the beach access in terms of walking distance, I suggest you stay in Buildings 1, 2 or 3).
We have recommended Sea Shells to many of our family and friends and will continue doing so. You can obtain a better rate going directly to their website as well as tour the units. (Although I would imagine some of the décor may have changed due to the Hurricane Charley.)
Nonetheless, I still stay Sea Shells is one of Sanibel’s best kept secrets!

My husband and I have always liked the ambiance of Sanibel’s small inns and cottages so we have stayed at places like the Parrot Nest, Driftwood Inn and PalmView. This time on the island we wanted to try a different beach location, explore new bike paths and restaurants so we chose the Sea Shells of Sanibel condos, which are a little more upscale, only slightly more in price and still within our budget. In January 2010 we stayed in unit #10 and in January 2011 we stayed in unit #7. Both units have the same layout, were very clean, updated, and each unit was tastefully decorated in bright, cheery colors—and compared to other places we have stayed, Sea Shell units are more spacious. This contributed to a very pleasant weeklong stay, thankfully, as we ended up spending more time in the condo than expected because of rain and record-low cold snaps (both years). The kitchens in both units were great—refrigerator and range were full size and there was actually enough counter space, along with utensils, pots and pans to enjoy cooking a full meal. Bedrooms in both units are large with ample closet and dresser space and plenty of room to move around without bumping into furniture. Beds were comfortable. Both the master bathrooms and hall baths were clean and large enough not to feel cramped. Unit 10 includes a TV in both bedrooms. The owners of unit 7 have assembled a delightful guidebook of tips and things to do on the island that would be helpful for anyone new (and not so new) to Sanibel. Both units have a nice little screened porch for two, perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee. There is a heated pool, coin-operated laundry facilities, outdoor grills, tennis courts and a place to clean your shells. Bike rental is also available and we found this part of the island just as enjoyable by bike, if not more. Take the bike path behind Rabbit Road to Doc Fords for lunch but watch out for alligators! So is there a downside? We didn’t find one but I have to agree with the reviewer from St. Paul who said the management was “uninterested”. We also found the woman to be very low-key and didn’t exactly receive a warm welcome upon our arrival nor did we see her much during the week, but she was okay. The only complaint I had was that I wished both units had provided spacious mats by the door (and brooms or vacuum cleaners) so we wouldn’t feel guilty tracking sand through the condo. But really, that’s our only complaint. One more thing—depending on where you stay in the complex it’s a 5 or 10-plus minute walk to the beach. Lower numbered units are closer to the bike path and beach. If you are looking for something a little nicer than a rustic small inn/cottage atmosphere yet can’t afford to stay directly on the beach, give Sea Shells of Sanibel condos a try.
