Detailed Reviews
Living near Philadelphia, I have a soft spot for historical places. Safety Harbor Resort & Spa definitely fell into that spot during my recent three day visit. The resort itself contains the charm, mystery, and ambience of history and yet has updated itself to provide modern comfort. It appears that the common areas and corridors have been recently updated with respect to carpet, paint, etc. I was upgraded to a deluxe room prior to my arrival so I can not speak to the condition of standard rooms. However, I can rave about my room which included a balcony overlooking Tampa Bay. The room appeared to be newly renovated and it was clean and insect-free with functioning sliding doors and independent climate-control. And, it was large with a dressing area and two sink vanities. (As I understand from the hotel staff, the standard rooms were "updated" roughly five years ago and the deluxe rooms were "renovated" three years ago. So it would seem that your best bet would be to request a "renovated" room prior to your arrival which I did.) The town of Safety Harbor has an artsy, quaint feel. There are several affordable, even inexpensive, restaurants that serve very good food with very good service - Paradise, Captain's Pizza, and Athens Diner. All of these are within walking distance. If you want to splurge, 105 North, the resort's restaurant has delicious food but expect to pay a bit more. But, as with any hotel restaurant with a captive audience, that's to be expected. I did have a chance to indulge in some spa services and fitness classes. The spa's reception area appears to have been recently renovated; the spa itself could use an update but is no older than 80's decor. The spa attendants were all friendly, helpful, accommodating, and well-trained. Ditto for the fitness center. The pool was well kept and refreshing with plenty of clean towels on hand. (Note that they request one towel per guest so bring a towel from the room if you prefer to use more than one towel like me. I learned that by day 2.) All in all, I can't say a bad thing about the resort. If you're looking for a brand new, out-of-the-box resort, you should probably look elsewhere, but if you like quaint with modern comfort, Safety Harbor is an excellent destination at a great price. I plan to go back for a longer duration VERY soon.
