The main attraction here is boat rides down the Kinabatangan river. One can expect to see a good range of wildlife - we saw a large herd of pygmy elephants, crocodiles, proboscis monkeys, many macaques and a range of birds. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the local wildlife, with a keen eye for spotting wildlife that might otherwise...

I wished we could have spent more than two nights here. I came here to see wildlife and wildlife I did see. From the pygmy Borneo elephants, to orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macques, and so many different types of birds including the hornbills. During the middle of the day when not out on the river taking a river boat ride watching...

We stayed here for 3 days before going to Lankayan Island and it was amazing. The guides are fantastic, they spot wildlife so quickly and are very knowledgable. We saw elephants, red leaf monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, macaques, hornbills, crocodiles, kingfishers, lizards, proboscis monkeys and so much more! In fact we saw elephants on every trip in the boat! The...

We stayed at the BRL for two nights. The trips on the river were amazing and we got to see loads of wildlife! The food was decent, but a bit 'samey' for 5 meals. The staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend it as a place to stay to visit the Kinabantangan River.

The rooms were very large, the beds comfortable and air conditioning (which we weren't expecting). Bathrooms were quite basic but functional. We loved relaxing in the hammocks on the balcony while keeping an eye out for long tailed macaques! The food was good if eaten on arrival (otherwise the buffet could be cold) and the breakfast hit the spot. The...

We arrived to the Bilit Jetty and from there we took the boat to our lodge. As we were travelling down the river we could tell that there was an incredible diversity of plants, mammals, and birds. (Just imagine if the rainforest had been left! How much more diversity there would be?) On arrival we were shocked at how amazing...

By the previous reviews and lonely planet writeup, we entered and presumed we had been dropped off at the wrong lodge... this is not a 3 or 4 star but more a summer camp for adults. Rooms are large, overly large... though could not fit two people in one of the small two beds so slept single, not sure if...

We stay in one of the two level bungalows and it was fantastic, I loved lying in the hammocks on the deck drinking a beer (amazing to get reasonable priced beer in the jungle). A couple of bugs in the room but what do you expect. Comfortable bed and great food.

This is a must do stay/trip in the Sandakan area. We saw the orangutans at Sepilok, then by bus&boat to the lodge. After checking in it was onto the boat for the Kinabatangan river tour. We saw hornbills, macaques, proboscis monkeys and white-belly sea eagles. Following day we stopped at the Gomantong Cave to see the bats and white bird...

Set on the banks of the remote Kinabatangan River, and accessible only by boat, this is a surprisingly smart lodge. A raised walkway links the stilted chalets, which are spacious, clean (barring the odd ant) and well-fitted (big comfortable bed, fridge, strong air-con etc), and each one has a terrace with chairs/hammocks. A dribbling shower, understandable given the setting, nevertheless...
