We rented the Lantana suite (2nd floor bedroom/kitchen/living room/bath/porch balcony) for a four-day getaway in June 2020. This property is quaint Old Florida. They have small to medium older cottages, a large modern guest house that is great for families, and a 2nd floor suite that is more modern than the old-fashioned cottages. It was perfect for us. We loved to hang out on the porch upstairs and watch the street life below. We were right in the middle of everything at that end of Captiva Island. There is a small swimming pool on the property, but it is only a few steps to the ocean and beach and the Mucky Duck bar and restaurant. There are all kinds of restaurants and pubs and shopping right there. We were in the center of everything. As an Inn guest, our breakfast was included at our choice of two nearby restaurants. We enjoyed a wonderful dining experience. The restaurants nearby are terrific. That was a great amenity. This is not a "high end" resort. It is mostly small cottages painted wild Florida colors. We visited the property once before we stayed, so we knew what we were getting. We really had a great time and would definitely return. This is a more basic property, but not all of its offerings are basic. It is cool and historic Old Florida. This was a great find for us.

We stayed 3 nights at the Captiva Island Inn. We were in Hibiscus, which is in the back of the property.

It had a queen (king?) bed in a separate bedroom, and a sofa bed in the living room. The bedroom closet was huge. There was also a rocking chair in the living room in addition to the TV, and A/C. There was a dining room table and 4 chairs, and a kitchen with a stove, microwave, small fridge, and coffee maker.

The bathroom had a shower only. On the porch, there was a table (with umbrella) and 4 chairs.

The road into this room was quite narrow, ad parking could get crowded, if drive in traffic was using the restaurant. The ice machine was along this road.

There were two restaurants available for a full (on the menu) [very good] breakfast, and these same restaurants had live music at night,

The WiFi was weak to non-existent in Hibiscus, and I had to walk over to the office and sit at their outside table to get good WiFi. But otherwise, the location of this place was convenient to so many other things.

The pool was still closed by the board of health (due to the Covid-19?), but it looked nice.

One minor problem we had was that there was only one key available for the cottage, so we had to hide it outside, so everybody could use it.

We would stay there again.

Location and charm are the main points at this spot. It is “island” to the core, by which I mean: laid-back and unpretentiousness. Furnishings are old, eclectic and well-worn, and buildings could use a little cosmetic updating but were clean. After being terribly overcharged for two nights at an expensive but disappointing resort in Sanibel, this place felt homey and “beachy” and a good value for the money.

We rented the Iris and found it comfortable and full of character. The easy walk to eating establishments, gift shop, and beach is a plus, but it also means this is smack in the middle of the main action in this little village. It is definitely not a private getaway but a place to go when you like to be in the center of beach life.

Note that if you are planning to use a sofa bed you need to request the linens for it before the office closes. We had to make do with extra blankets.

Pool was out of service and in fact the website doesn’t even mention a pool at all, so after reading reviews here about it being closed by the health dept. I suspect the owners have just given up on it. That’s disappointing and will probably keep us from returning with kids unless it’s remedied in the future. Would definitely use again as a couple just for the charm and ability to stroll over and grab a drink and enjoy it on our own tiny porch.

We stayed at the penthouse. It was clean, spacious and more than we expected. We enjoyed sitting out on the balconies in the AM with the sun shining in and in the evening on the front balcony listening to the music from down the street. The pool was closed which was a disappointment as when I searched for a place to stay I wanted a pool. Breakfast included was a bonus! Easy walk to the beach. The elevator was a bit scary to use... maintenance around the facilities could be improved. The looks of the other cottages looked like they needed up keep. We used the free shuttle the man driving wasn't real friendly and acted like we were putting him out. I would def go again and get the penthouse. The other reviews scare me.

If you're only looking for location and don't mind paying for it - it's pretty good. But we were very disappointed with the Jasmine cottage. Other rooms may be better but this cottage didn't have anywhere to hang clothes except for one single hook on the back of the shower door. It also didn't have a table on either side of the bed - and no room for one, either. The property could use some cleaning (inside and out). Musty smell throughout... For the high price we'd never go back.

The best thing about our stay was the location of this property. Close to the beach, restaurants and shops, it offers great convenience without having to use a car. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in the Jasmine Cottage. It is a one bedroom unit in the rear of the property which is quiet but unkept. The cottage didn't look anything like it was depicted on the website and was in need of repairs both inside and out. There was a coffee pot in the room but no coffee cups or utensils. The TV got only 1 station. The bed is tightly squeezed in and was difficult to get out of one side without banging into the lampshade. The outside area with a table and 2 chairs was cute but the front porch fencing was broken and the area not clean. The pool area was under construction which we knew about prior to arrival and did not impact our stay.

My wife and I found the Lantana unit after our daughter and son in law stayed in the Love Shack last year. It has the perfect location overlooking Andy Rosse Lane and the wonderfully relaxed street scene that it offers. Everything in Lantana was clean and decorated with bright sunny colors. Sitting on the balcony in the evening enjoying the live music from the Key Lime bistro next door was one of the highlights of our evenings. With the central location, we never moved our rental car once during our stay. We walked to the beach, Mcarthy's Marina, the Island Store and 4 different restaurants..... and there were several others we just didn't get around to! Jayson in the office was very helpful in booking our longer stay for next February as well!
I will tell you to come stay at Lantana (or I'm sure their other units as well) with the expectation that this is a bit of old Florida. Beach cozy shabby chic my wife called it. It's a very affordable and relaxing place to stay on Captiva. If you're looking for a resort experience, those places abound, and you'll pay accordingly. What this place offers in abundance is relaxation and we can't wait to return!

Captiva Island Inn is a cute little place to stay when in the Sanibel Island and Captiva area. Love the location! We stayed in the Orchid Cottage for a week. It was comfortable and we had everything we needed...well if you don't count good Wi-Fi! That was a bit frustrating and why I didn't rate our stay 5 stars. (That and the water pressure in the bathroom could have been better.) It was two of us and I think that's probably all I'd put in the cottage although there was an extra bed. Breakfast each day is included in one of the two restaurants adjacent and across the street from where we stayed. Captiva Island Inn is right down the street from The Mucky Duck and a fabulous beach to watch sunsets. You can walk to a lot of restaurants. Just a nice little place to stay for some R & R. Would definitely come back again!

We rented Iris Villa for a 4 night stay 9/8/21-9/12/21. The first night was horrible no air-conditioning 80 degrees in cottage. We spoke to management who had no solution except to say we were probably in and out too much. Then I discovered that the air-conditioning filter and the air purifier filter looked like they hadn't been changed in 2 years at least. The filth on these was really disgusting and probably was the cause of most of the musty smell and odor! Those were replaced air still didn't work. They put freon in unit still 80 degrees so we had to pack up and go to a different cottage every night! Not a vacation! They only refunded us 1 night plus 10% because of no pool either. Floors were also dirty as was the sofa. Old and needs updating bad.....Would not stay here again.

This Inn and immediate neighboring location is the happening place on the island. If you like the beach, it's a short 100 ft walk. If you like food, there are several options to walk, if you like music The Key Lime Bistro rocks. Literally every thing you need is a walk, small provision store and a rental store (YOLO). Clean and rustic sums up the Inn.

I stayed in the Iris cottage with my friend Tom for 5 days. As stated by others, the cottages are charming and also appear to have endured some weather. The kitchen and bath are clean. My bedroom had some water inside the window track that was not going away and did not have odors. We had plenty of room, as there is an attached, enclosed porch. The location is perfect. The staff response was friendly and prompt for any of our requests.

which cottage is the nicest dog friendly?
Answer from Kyle B

I only saw Bird of Paradise where we stayed, but if you have a dog I might suggest staying in there or another detached cottage for the privacy. Also, Bird of Paradise was quite large for two people - a dog could stay in there just fine. Comparable to a large hotel room with an extra pullout couch and bathroom.

We wanted to get back with you regarding Children staying at the Inn. We love children. The cottages work the best for children as you have your own space. If you rent the entire second floor of the Celebration House or the entire third floor, or the entire five bedroom house, then children are allowed. If you only rent a room we have had complaints from other guests. I hope this answers your question. The Orchid Cottage is very family friendly and really close to the pool.
