Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
'Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa is celebrated for its prime beachfront location and cleanliness, with guests frequently admiring the spotless rooms and well-maintained grounds. The hotel offers a variety of amenities, such as clean pools and multiple dining choices, although calls for updates and more lounge chairs are common.
While the staff is often described as friendly and attentive, there are occasional mentions of slow service. Despite the many positive attributes, some travelers consider the resort overpriced, pointing to hidden fees and a perceived mismatch between cost and value.

Detailed Reviews
When I booked our reservation, I really wanted the Ann Lindberg cabin b/c of how fresh, clean & cheerful it looked in the pictures. It wasn’t available for our dates. All the other cabins appeared dated, dreary and decorated in brown everything. Not a fun beach vibe for a place located right on the beach. I expressed this to the booking agent & she told me we would be pleasantly surprised upon arrival to find that all the cabins had just been renovated, the pictures were in process of being updated. She recommended the Charles Lindberg cabin for our stay, which is where we ended up. When we arrived, the woman at the front desk was very welcoming & friendly. When we opened the door to the cabin, however, we were surprised to find that the cabin looked exactly like the web pics, dank & dreary, & definitely not recently remodeled. That was very disappointing. We mentioned our surprise & disappointment to the front desk when we called with a question, & the woman we spoke with didn’t sound surprised we’d been told erroneously that our cabin had just been remodeled.
Two other shortcomings to the cabin: first, there isn’t a closet to hang or unpack clothes. The armoire houses the tv & safe & it’s where we stowed the large decorative pillows before bed so we wouldn’t trip on them on our way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The room is small, so you have to navigate around your suitcases that you can’t unpack. Second, there’s not a flat surface in the bathroom big enough to unpack toiletries. The bathroom is otherwise nice sized, but the tub area is old and has mold in the grouting, so it doesn’t feel clean. The tub is a little tricky to get in & out of because of how wide the tub wall is that you have to step up & over to get in to use the shower. Some non-skid tape on the tub floor would help make entry & exit not feel so treacherous.
We got carry out (because of COVID & it was too cold for outside dining) from the Crow’s Nest restaurant twice & were very pleased with the quality & value of the food. The hostess could not have been friendlier. In fact, everyone we encountered working at ‘Tween Waters was very nice.
Complaints aside, you simply CANNOT beat the incredible unobstructed view of the Gulf or the cabin’s location directly across the street from the beach, around 30 steps away. That’s why we stayed at ‘Tween Waters & would again! The sunsets are spectacular!!

My family of 4 enjoyed our week here. The kids couldn't get enough of the pool, I think we spent more time there than the beach! It really is a very clean pool considering the amount of sand that gets tracked in! We had a bay room and loved sitting out back watching the manatee swim around. Drink and food prices are reasonable, towel exchange is pretty easy and clean towels were readily available. We had an issue with the fridge in our room one night, maintenance was there in less than 10 minutes and fixed it up. We didn't make much use of the coupon book, but appreciated that it was included in our booking. Only suggestion would be supplying rooms with brooms or small handheld vacuums to clean up sand that gets tracked in between housekeeping services. We probably wouldn't have used housekeeping at all except for fresh towels if it wasn't for the fact that we needed the room swept up daily. Ceiling fans would be nice, too! Would definitely stay here again, it's a family friendly resort and we were more than comfortable.

Dear KristenHJF82, Thank you for the wonderful review. I am so delighted your family enjoyed your weeks stay at 'Tween Waters Resort and Spa. Refreshing to hear that you made use of our beautiful pools everyday. It is so nice to sit back on your screened patio and watch the manatees. Getting in touch with nature really make the experience memorable . I think the broom and dust pans are a great idea to keep up with all the sand getting tracked in the room. I will mention that idea to our GM. Looking forward to seeing you on your next trip to paradise. LNewsome Front Desk Manager

We were curious to see how the iconic 'Tween Waters Resort and Spa had held up through hurricanes and Covid challenges. This is one of the few places in the state where you have your choice of Gulf or bay activities, separated by a 5 minute walk.. Wednesday, the 31st, requested a pet friendly room with a water view. Fully expected a pet rejection. Doggies got in! Safety was front and center. Masks required on entry to every indoor office or establishment on the property. Room was immaculate. Beautiful little balcony. Free masks were offered at every door. The place was packed but the wait staff at all food/drink establishments were on the ball. Food arrived promptly. well prepared and hot! No "Resort Fee"! Kayaks, Canoes and Bikes were included in price. Staff training was A1. From custodians to management, all staff we encountered were exceptionally competent and accommodating. The marina was very well equipped to handle substantial vessels in excess of 50 feet. And the pool? Spectacular. Tennis courts, bocci ball and more.

We stayed 3 nights in mid march and we expected much more of this resort.
After arrival we were allocated to a room which wasn't any better or larger than other rooms we stayed in during our trip through florida which were 10 times cheaper. To make bad things worse the sheets of both beds were pretty dirty.
After complaining at the front desk we got new sheets and pillow cases which we could change by ourself. We changed this and during this we noticed that especially the pillows were very old with a lot of wear and tear.
Because it was already very late we went to bed, but sleeping was very hard because of a light in front of the door in the corridor which illuminated the room.
The next morning we also saw that the light was full off bugs (I think there were hundreds of dead bugs in this light).
So we went the next morning again to the front desk and now we got an upgraded room, this room was much better and larger (but normally also much more expensive).
We are from europe and maybe we are spoiled but the price and quality of this resorts doesn't match up. When we book a holiday over here to Egypt or other countries where we can go to in a few hours by plain, we pay the same price for a week all inclusive as we pay here for 3 nights for only a room.
In the all inclusive holidays over here we pay the same price for a week and all the cocktails, other drinks and all meals all day are included. In this resort we had only a room (for 3 days) and we had to pay for all meals and drinks. The cocktails and meals are also very expensive so all in all you get way to less for your money.
Over Here you have to pay for everything (only the bikes are included but these are pretty old and basic). I don't want to gripe too much but in the all inclusive resorts pools, rooms etc are much bigger and lusher than they were here.
The pool itself is nice, but again for this price you expect a pool 10 times bigger. The staff is friendly and there is service at the pool which is a bonus.
normally I would have given one star but due to the upgrade we give two stars.
All in all I would recommend to everyone stay somewhere else for your money this is way to expensive for an old bad maintained resort.

We treated ourselves to the King Suite not realizing it’s in the Mangrove Building which is the worst location on the property. Since we were staying for five days location really mattered this trip I asked at check in if another room was available and I was told all the king suites are in that building. I asked for the third floor but again I was told it wasn’t available. Surprising since this was a mid week stay of four nights and occupancy was 50% The front of the building is behind the restaurant kitchen where there’s some staff parking, the staff sit or stand outside, some smoking while on a break and there’s a view of equipment and garbage bins. Food delivery trucks come and go. The garbage compactors are to the side and garbage trucks came about 6:15am The back of the building faces the bay and the view from the suite balcony is the boat ramp, marina gravel parking lot and a fuel pump. On Thursday morning at 7:20am the fuel truck arrived and pumped fuel for a good hour chugging away If you’re on the second floor like room 204 you barely see the bay between the trees. The third floor is above the tree line and you have a good view of the bay. It’s also the furthest building from the pool.
The suite was nice. You can see the description on the website. A separate king bedroom, living room and kitchen. Very nice bathroom with double sinks. We’ve stayed in all the room types here and they have been randomly renovated over the years. Age and style of furnishings will differ with every room. There are two big pools The adults only Serenity pool is gorgeous The Oasis pool bar also serves food. It’s an easy walk across the road to the beach and the hotel has chairs, wooden loungers and umbrellas for rent. Resort I would rate Very Good, Room was very good, Room location was poor so that’s why my rating is Average

Dear Kelchick, Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay here at 'Tween Waters Island Resort and Spa. We appreciate our guest’s feedback as it allows us to determine where we have room for improvement. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the resort and room itself, but we regret to hear that your room location had such a negative effect on your stay. Tween Waters Island Resort and Spa offers many different options of room types for your accommodations. However, all of our 1-bedroom king suites are only available in the Mangrove building. We did offer 6 different room types and locations for you at check in, and this is not including our cabins which do fill up fast due to their popularity. If you decide to give us another chance, we encourage you to consider the Queen Bay Suites as they are the same room set up, having a separate room for the beds themselves, a living room area, and a small kitchenette. The only difference is there are two queen beds rather than one king, and the location in more towards the center of our resort. If you prefer the king bed, a cottage may be the way to go. The cottages are beautiful and offer many different amenities. There are options as far as whether or not you would like a fireplace, a king or queen bed, a beach view, and much more. Again, we do apologize the stay fell short of your expectations, and hope this does not prevent you from joining in the future. We appreciate your feedback and will do our best to improve upon the issues brought to our attention. Thank you, Lorri Newsome Front Desk Manager ‘Tween Waters Island Resort and Spa

We got to Tween Waters a lot for the day by boat but I have not stayed overnight in a few years and was very disappointed with the rooms on our Valentines Day stay. The bell hop's key nor mine would work and he had to push himself into the door to get it to open pulling wood out of the door frame...after that fiasco I assumed we would be put into another room. That did not occur since they were at 99% occupancy and they simply sent maintenance to "fix" it. The room itself was disappointing and they need a serious remodel!
The Location of course is amazing and we enjoyed the beach, pool bar and Valentines Night dinner at the Old Captiva House but would not stay overnight again or at least not in the bay front rooms. The last time I stayed in the cottages they were nice but the rooms need a significant UPGRADE.

SuzannesL6872WB, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us on your recent stay. We love to hear positive reviews but we also value the constructive feedback from our guests that can point out the areas in which we can improve. We’re sorry to hear that your stay got off on the wrong foot and fell short of your expectations. We apologize for the lock issues upon arrival, sometimes technology lets us down but I am sure our maintenance staff was able to assist and fix it as soon as possible. Unfortunately, as you said, when we are at our full occupancy we don’t have any other accommodations to offer to switch to. Thank you again for your feedback and for bringing this up to our attention. We’d love another chance to welcome you and fully win you over. Sincerely, Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa Assistant General Manager Kristina W.

This resort offers many types of accommodations. We are staying in hotel unit. Facing directly west, our third floor room has a spectacular view of the Gulf. The beach is directly across the road. The resort has pools for everyone, especially fine is the Serenity Pool that is for adults only. The rooms are spartan but comfortable. The shower has great pressure and there is a keurig and a mini frig. The staff are gracious, accommodating and kind.

Negatives: We booked a last-minute two night stay and were given a room on the third floor of the Palmetto Building. Another room may have made this a 5 star review. First, the elevator is broken. It's only two flights of stairs, but no one wants to carry heavy suitcases and golf clubs up two flights. Our room was at the top of the steps, so it was noisy at times. Most of the rooms have designated parking, but not the Palmetto Building. The room was just outdated, but did have a nice view of the bay.
Positives: The location is terrific, "tween waters" of the bay and gulf. The pools are nice. The staff was very helpful. The drink deal at the pool bar ($20 for a Tervis Tumbler with first drink free, and 16 oz refills for the price of 12) was nice. Food at Old Captiva for breakfast and dinner was very good and reasonably priced. Kayaking in the bay was fun.
Recommendations to guests: If you want a to reserve a boat at the marina, do so before your trip as they were booked our entire stay.
A final suggestion: Don't be cheap on the toiletries. After swimming in the ocean and pool, women need shampoo and conditioner, not a 2 in 1.

Thank you for sharing your experience on your recent stay here at Tween Waters Island Resort and Spa. We apologize for the inconvenience of being without an elevator throughout your stay. We are currently in the process of replacing the elevator in the Gumbo-Limbo and Palmetto building. Due to a shortage of parts, OTIS had to delay the process of replacing the elevator. We do inform all of our guests prior to arrival that there is no working elevator in this building so if needed we can move them to a different room with an elevator or keep them on a lower level if necessary. For guests that may need assistance with bags, we have bellmen who are happy to assist. I recommend booking a suite or cottage next visit as those are our units with designated parking spaces. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed our location. We pride ourselves on our location. Each morning you can wake up to a gorgeous sunrise over the bay and end your day with a breathtaking sunset. We are happy you were able to take advantage of our Tumbler promotion and use the complementary kayaks. Thank you again for sharing your feedback. Sara D Front Desk Supervisor

We stay at Teeen Waters a couple of times a year, and love everything about the accommodations, the choice of rooms, the beach, restaurants, warm welcome, Chef Greg’s menus and delicious food, views from our room, sunsets, beautiful grounds, amenities in the rooms and cleanliness of the rooms. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchens are nicely stocked and there is room to relax after a day at pool or beach. There is great service if you wish to get beach chairs and umbrellas. The staff at Old Captiva House and Crows Nest are very efficient, welcoming and there are a couple of familiar faces who we enjoy seeing each visit. They are always sure to welcome us back. The pool area is spacious and clean with plenty of chairs and tables and umbrellas. There is staff to serve from pool bar Oasis, and most are ok. I miss the staff who have left in the last couple of years...they were so much more attentive. There are a couple still who are longer term and heloful. There are two pools. The main pool is nice and bit and where families can congregate and games of Marco Polo can be played. There is a newer and wonderfully quiet pool area, Serenity Pool that is our new favorite area. This message is to parents. It is the SERENITY POOL....that means don’t bring your little ones over to splash, throw things, cry and yell. There was major disabuse of this during our recent visit and i hope in the future it will be addressed. That’s my only issue and it is because the guests were rude, not the staff. There is also some phenomenal shelling and fun floating in the ocean while at the beach. For couples, families, older guests, this is just a wonderful getaway vacation spot

I came on Friday 5/28 and left on Memorial Day. I feel that the money I spent ($450 a night!) was not worth it. The only thing that was great about the resort was the burger I had at the Crow’s Nest, the location being directly in front of the sunsets and the fact that there were complimentary bicycles and kayaks. Everything else was terrible. For example, the room was old and tiny. I was expecting a kitchenette and what I got was a college dorm. That could have been my fault but the pictures online made it seem more grand.
I was under the impression that that was a continental breakfast, yet I paid a lot of money for each of my meals. We also had a great burger at the Oasis Pool Bar but it came with Ruffles Ridges instead of fries.... what if guests don’t like those chips?
Lastly I was extremely upset my last day of staying as my sister’s husband is disabled and we asked how we could get them a parking space without any issues to other guests. We were informed that we could park anywhere and just park our car in front of theirs. In fact, we were told to park anywhere at check-in too. We were 20 mins into our bike ride and had to come back because we were parked in a “designated area.” Suddenly there were reserved spaces? I never got to show my family Sanibel because it got dark. Also, the guy checking out the bikes was rude even though I told my family to bring their OWN bikes and not to use the hotel’s bikes. Sure enough, the hotel people were spying on us to make sure. So uncomfortable.
Overall there were so many rules and annoying things about the hotel that just wasn’t relaxing. We went to dinner at Old Captiva Inn one night around maybe 9:30 and told they were closed. Guests like to come and go and eat when they want at a resort. I’m not asking for anything ridiculous but staying open at least till 11pm would be ideal for the latecomers. We felt like if we missed dinner we would starve but thank God there were a few places open down the street.

Response from Michele Berger, General Manager at 'Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa
Responded 4 June 2021
Dear MLERose13, Thank you for sharing your experience on your recent stay here at Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa. We are saddened to hear your stay fell short of your expectations. We are unsure of where you may have heard we served continental breakfast, and we apologize as this is false information. All Old Captiva House breakfast is a la carte. We regret to hear your dissatisfaction with the chips served at lunch. Chips have been served at the pool bar for over 20 years, and this is the first time hearing dissatisfaction. We will make sure to take this into consideration. Old Captiva House similarly has always closed at 9 pm. This is posted on the Old Captiva House door and can be found on our website, as well as the welcome packet. For the convenience of guests who like to have later dinners, we have the Crow’s Nest located next door open until 10:00 PM. We have multiple handicap parking spots available. Any guest whom may need such a spot is able to park in said spot, and our bellmen are happy to assist in getting them to the spot. One perk of booking a suite or cottage includes designated parking. All standard rooms and studios have parking near their building; however, these spots are unassigned. Thank you again for sharing your feedback. Sara Dowling Front Desk Supervisor

Most do….better check with the resort.
Towels are provided for use at the pools and presumably can be used at the beach. It is a vending machine of sorts where you use your room key to scan and get access to the towels. The towels are scanned by the machine when you return them so you must remember to return the ones you take when done or you are charged I believe $20 per towel.
Hello. If you are renting one of Tween Water properties then free parking is included and access to the amenities. I would suggest calling their office to be 100% positive - they are generally very helpful.
Things like pool loungers, towels, bikes, and kayaks are complimentary. However, the beach chairs and umbrellas will cost you an extra fee as well as motorized water sports like jet skis. The pool is heated and cooled depending on the season though I am not aware of if there are any months where it is closed.
you can bring your own or they have rentals
