The hotel’s high point is its position in the heart of Key West, next to the lighthouse and opposite the Ernest Hemmingway House. You can barely notice the hotel from the road as it is discreetly tucked away behind trees and white picked fences. It is a collection of buildings with amenities tucked away in corners - hammocks, outdoor computer work area, pool (small pool). We had a duplex apartment with it’s own patio outside and chickens/roosters who visited us as is the way in Key West. Although the staff were very accommodating we were not sure that it was value for money (it is the most expensive Kimpton we have ever stayed in) perhaps because of the smaller things, e.g. no welcome email explaining about the provisions for unloading your car (there is no parking on-site but 2 blocks away which was fine), no welcome drinks or message, no information detailing what’s available on site (just a map) and no automatic housekeeping (only available on request with 24 hours notice and for additional charge). Basically you are paying for a cute hotel in a great location. All of the above said we did enjoy our stay and enjoyed meeting Gary Cooper the black cat who hangs out at the Reception.

Hotel's Favourite
Super clean, perfect location, friendly staff and had the chance to walk every where. Upon check we had a complimentary beer from a local brewery. We booked a king bed room with patio and we got lucky and had the patio all to ourselves. There was a backyard with hammocks, lights and lush vegetation and it made it feel like a secret hideaway. The pool area was just as wonderful, towels provided, tables and chairs, comfy couches and happy hour specials. The bed was super comfortable, the room fit was perfect and had very thing we needed. Our room was clean, the shampoo and conditioner smelled fresh and clean. Overall, it was a completely wonderful experience!

Pros - Great location to walk about everywhere Decent continental breakfast (don't believe what everyone says that expects omelets and hollandaise sauce it is CONTINENTAL) But it states complimentary which isn't true coz you pay a $39 resort fee for this. Well laid out room Some good locations with nice patios Cons - Expensive for what you get but that is Key West anymore TINY rooms and I mean TINY. Just got back from NYC and those rooms were bigger! But if weather is good, sit outside. If weather is crap don't plan on hanging in the tiny room. Our room had so much condensation that kleenex box was soaked! Some room locations were not great that were by breakfast room and noisy A/C units so be careful! Some front desk people were great during our stay and some were a bit surly And, if you like cats and chickens this is good. If not, maybe Key West isn't best for you. Very small pool area. Pleasant when not full but not much if you are looking for a suntan. So, overall for location and thankfully great weather - gave it a 4. Maybe 3 -1/2 might apply. Was very clean and well designed gardens here. Don't plan to park here either. Not many options on property. Also, maybe you will get an upgrade and maybe not. I was first sent reminder email that we had been given a great upgrade. Then when I arrived, no. Room had been taken and I was given exactly what i had asked for to start. Would rather not have known I could have been given a better room but someone must have booked it last minute for full price.

Dear LeAnn, Thank you so much for the review and your detailed feedback. Key West is definitely very unique place to be in the Keys. Our properties are very unique in their own way as far as size of the rooms, their lay out and the way they are set on each property. We always look for ways to improve and I will definitely share your feedback with my Team. We hope to see you back soon!

We checked into the kimpton last Saturday and unfortunately our flight home was cancelled due to the hurricane. We had a lovely premium room with a sitting area and large bathroom. Since we had to add another day, we checked with the front desk and asked to keep our room another day. I was told the eve before we could keep our room for an additional day of our flight was cancelled, so to be told in the am that we could get another room but would have to move, was annoying but we were assured the room was the same level as the one we were in prior, so we would be paying the same amount and it was a matter of moving our items. You can imagine my surprise when they showed me a room half the size, next to a room being renovated. Our prior room was approx 320 square feet and the room we were moved into is about 120 square feet. I asked if I would be receiving a lower room rate and was told no! All premium rooms are the same amount. I can’t even express my displeasure enough. This is our second time here and I feel like I am being taken advantage of. You absolutely cannot charge the same price for two very different rooms in size and quality. The other room had two closets, a specious bathroom, a sitting area, a coffee table and chairs outside the room and lounge chairs. This room has a tiny shower, no place to properly store your luggage and the list goes on. While I’m writing this, I’m listening to construction sounds next door. If the Kimpton does not correct the disparity I. What we are paying, we will choose another place to stay when we return next March. *the photos below are of both rooms. Note the closets, sitting area, couch at the end of the bed etc in the room we were in originally. You cannot charge the same price for these two very different rooms.

As a historic hotel dating back to the early 1900's, we do have various size rooms and spaces as they were collected over years to form the Lighthouse Hotel. I will certainly look further into your feedback and make appropriate changes. I hope you will forgive us. I am sorry we disappointed you.

We visit Key West at least twice a year and have stayed all over, Sunset Key, Dewey House to name a few. This past April we stumbled upon the Kimpton Lighthouse and enjoyed our stay so much we returned again and invited friends along. Love the little porches and down pillows and bedding. Our bartender Rob went above and beyond today and made relaxing at the pool a very fun and personable experience. My only complaint ...., there has to be daily room service. I don’t think a place like this almost two years into covid can use that as an excuse to not take care of your room each day. Regardless, we plan to return next March and see Rob, “Gary Cooper” and the crew.
