First, the hotel is on Minh Chau beach on Quan Lan island, not in Quang Chau.

Minh Chau beach resort is a 3-star hotel, and deserves this rating. It has a pool and good garden, and located in front of arguably the most beautiful beach in the northern half of Vietnam. The beach has very fine white sand, a very gradual slope, and very clean water. Hotel rooms are very good as a whole, especially those outside the main building. Thanks to the recent electric power line from the mainland to Quan Lan island, the power supply at the hotel is now much better than before. During my stay at the island during a vacation week in Vietnam, the hotel was crowded, and service staff, some not quite experienced, was stretched and services were not as strong as they could be. The reception and reservation desks were helpful with hydrofoil booking, which was very important since the hydrofoil services tended to be sold out fast.

This hotel is considered as the best hotel in surrounding area, located near Minh Chau Beach (300m). The staff is very friendly and supportive. The room is quite clean for a remote island hotel but not really reasonable with its price. One good thing is that the wifi is so slow and the swimming pool is full of chemical smell so we can not spend all day in the resort. Hence, we spent a lot of time at the beach :D

My wife, two friends and I wanted to have a relaxing weekend away by the sea. We found a very nice little resort that only has limited electricity. The staff there are very friendly and helped us find places to eat and ways to get from the island.

The electricity is only turned on when you ask for it to be and it goes off completely at 10pm or 1am depending on how many people in the hotel. We paid 1,300,000VND for our room and while I realize its a remote place I think this price is a little steep.

We would go back there again though as we found it a relaxing and friendly place to be.

Who on earth rated this a 4 star?? I would have given it 2 stars if it had been clean. The bathroom was absolutely filthy, cracked tiles, mouldy ceiling falling down, ants, no cable tv as stated. Swimming pool had 5 inches of water in it! We felt conned. The manager also kept ripping us off, they know you have no where else to go as its away from anywhere else. It says breakfast included....all we were allowed was eggs & bread & tea, while the Vietnamese guests had their fill. The beach was like one big rubbish tip....beds, car seats, chairs, clothing, tons of plastic and household waste. Do not go here, what a rip off!

My partner and I went to Quan Lan seeking a relaxing week by the beach, but we couldn't get away from Minh Chau Beach Resort fast enough. The price on the website was just under 200,000vnd,but they charged us more than double. The trump card was that right after we checked in and payed for our visit the staff asked us to loan them money. We said no, and then they tried to separate us and take my partner into a different room.. we were both super creeped out. The staff took photos of our passports on a personal phone instead of scanning... not very professional and added to the whole dodgy vibe we were getting.

The resort's private "silky white sand beach" is like a junk yard - rubbish everywhere, including in the water, and the hotel's pool was dirty. Linen in the room was stained and smelled musty, like it had not been washed in a while. Pictures on the website must be very old - everything was run down and we were the only guests. Save yourself the trek to Quan Lan, definitely not worth the effort.

Quan Lan island is a getaway from it all. We went in November (low season- very low!) and saw about 6 other tourists in our whole trip! Amazing to have the beaches to yourself, but the flip side is there are zero activities other than relaxing/swimming or bike riding- and food is very limited- (go to the cherry cafe for the best/only shakes and frappes)!!

Anyway the resort is ok. We got a relatively cheap price online so can't complain too much BUT the staff are sooo lazy! They are normally found playing mine craft (!) or just lying around. They didn't clean our room, there are dead flies all over the stagnant looking pool and they don't make any effort.
The rooms are quite nice except for the dirty fridge and bad condition bathroom.

However on our last day the boss arrived and then we saw some hurried cleaning up happening!!

The food is ok in the hotel- a bit pricey. You can also dine across the road by the beach but the food is worse and they try to rip you off a bit.

We also found a few groceries in the road nearby for breakfast since it's not provided.

There are no trips or activities or kayaks/snorkels/beach games provided- so bring your own stuff!

I would still recommend Quan Lan for the isolated beautiful beaches but not really this hotel.

(FYI to get to Quan Lan you can get a speedboat from Halong City or Cai Rong- it's cheaper than an organised tour.)

If this resort is located in a more urban area, I would have given its rating one star.

Upon arrival, I read their notice that the island is suffering a drought hence water is scarced. For that I ignored the fact that the swimming pool water is dirty (greenish color and I can see algae inside).

The island only has power grid covered until recently so it's expected to have power cut in the middle of the night. Besides, in order to have hot water or AC running, you have to go to the reception desk of your building to have the circuit breaker of your room's AC or water heater turned on. I understand their doing because a lot people would waste a lot of energy by leaving AC and water heater running all the time even when they go out, but that's a big inconvenient for good people.

They'd charge you extra if you need more towels (I'll assume that's because of the water shortage). Room is not cleaned daily, the maids only make the bed, change the towels and that's it. I can see traces of water, drops of sand where my toddler son previously sat after returning from the beach. There are mold on the wall and the ceiling even though it's not too obviously.

At night, the cafe garden is swarmed with mosquitoes. If the power is out and you have to open window for open air, the mosquitoes will swarm in too.

Breakfast is awful. What they call buffet is either instant noodles with some seafood or a few slide of bread with omelet and butter. Bread are inedibly dry and it's even worse after toasting in the oven. There's also fried rice which is equally bad.

Like breakfast, dinner is also below-par.

The only positive point of this place is the proximity to the Minh Chau beach (2-3 minutes on foot)

After having booked 2 family rooms in Minh Chau resort, I found some negative feedback online about this place. My husband and I were worried as we would stay there with our two little ones. But when we arrived there, we were stunned by the great service we received. The staff are sooo friendly and helpful. The owner is way too amazing. He offered us free dishes for kids (every meal) and I have to say all of the dishes are so delicious. It is also not far to the beautiful beach. It is the only place I will stay in this island.

Nice beach, fresh air. Good service and staff. Fresh food. My family is comfortable coming here.

There is a place for our children to discover and experience the new environment.
Easy access for high speed trains. We found very interesting

We stumbled upon this resort during an organized tour of Quan Lan via Ethnic Travel and decided to leave the tour to spend some time to ourself on the island. Though not a resort by Western standards, Minh Chau Beach Resort, was the most fun we had all trip. Great location across from pristine, quiet beaches, friendly staff and great karaoke with the locals.
