Pleased to be located an upstairs room towards rear and away from main road, but cleaning left a bit to be desired, with a nail clipping and screw spotted on the carpet floor. Old style key door access but felt safe enough and had a quiet nights sleep on a rather soft bed.
Microwave, tea, coffee & milk provided, but no sink to wash up in and the shower head was fitted way too low. The wifi was good though, the aircon quiet and the TV perfectly adequate. Range of handy food outlets adjacent, including an unassuming but good little cafe open daily. Have stayed at better for cheaper.
Not properly cleaned
Lights not working
Room smelt of wet dog or cat
Receptionist unable to speak understandable English
Gardens unkempt
Parking bays so narrow unable to get bags out of car doors
So poorly designed, no windows to look out of
Good feature = it's reasonably priced

I complained in writing (a first for me truely) to Golden Chain and thought she may do the decent thing and apologise but instead she replied that she was confused and we must have the wrong impression off her because she cannot recall the episodes I quoted plus others too. And dishonest too!!!!!!!!
My advise is there are much nicer places to stay with nicer hosts, a disgusting display of a grumpy woman who should never had contemplated going into the hospitality industry
The bad: Owners need to get out and travel to see the standard that they're competing against. They really don't know what their self proclaimed 3.5 stars should indicate in terms of standards.
The ugly: Daphne. Not a pleasant lady to deal with at all.
I was booked into this place for a week on the basis of it being the closest accomodation to the venue where I was attending a course. Never a good start.
On the paperwork provided by my office, the room type said “self contained unit”. Apparently putting a microwave into a bog standard motel unit now counts as as a self contained unit. The room its self was a basic motel room with very grubby walls. There was an undefinable funk to the room which may have been from some super cheap cleaning chemical. It reminded me somewhat of a recently sanitised public toilet. The bathroom was reasonably clean.
The pillows on the bed, I kid you not, were all of 5cm thick. A good thing I had the room to myself and could steal the spares from the single bed (which was hard as a rock). The queen size bed was slightly softer than the single having a comfort level somewhere between a carpeted floor and a flat air mattress. The walls were the same as in most of these cheap motels. Paper thin. Very difficult to get a good nights sleep when your neighbours are talking or slaming doors at 3.00AM.
Then there was the internet. On enquiring at the office about access I was told “Yes we have WI-Fi but there's no internet in the rooms, you can only use it in the reception area”. Not because the signal wouldn't reach, I could see the network and had excellent strength.
Never mind there being bugger all space and the fact that I wanted to be able study undisturbed with some tunes and a glass of red. I ended tethering my mobile to save the heartache.
The website and room compendium claims there is Foxtel. Not in my room and not in the rooms of at least two others who happened to be on the same course with me.
Each morning I was woken by sounds from the neighbouring rooms. It's a cheap suburban motel, it's fairly normal to hear showers and car doors. What is not normal is the sound of a vacuum cleaner from a room vacated at 6.45. Daphne hangs around the doors in the mornings interrogating the occupants as to when they are vacating. It's dowright creepy. One of the guys on my course had her walk into his room at 6.45 while he was still in his underware. No apology. Just “I thought you would have been at work by now”!
Go back factor: Low, next time I'll take my chances with the homeless guy under the bridge. He's probably got better hospitality skills.
Returning late that evening the air-con appears to be pre-set &/or faulty. Turning down the bed covers on the single bed I was greeted by two smashed up cockroaches & the bed did not appear to have fresh linen. The pillows were also very thin. At 7:50am we were both woken by a furious knocking at the door & the call of "room service". Before I knew it Daphne had used her key & entered into the room on her own accord wanting to know when we were leaving???? Wot the?????In addition she stated my brothers credit card could be collected from the office. This would have been convenient to know the previous evening when we went to pay for a meal. Just a nice touch of service would have been appreciated. She had our mobile number to contact us to inform she had not returned the card. I was on the balcony prior to 9am waiting for my brother to shower & was met my Daphne outside with cleaning gear once again asking if we were ready to leave. No coffee, interrupted sleep we just decided to get out asap and were gone by 9am. As we closed the door another woman appeared upset sitting on the steps outside her room. I asked her if she was ok & she replied, NO, I have just been asked to leave my room by the owner. Reading the reviews I have no doubt in my mind that this is a regular occurrence for this woman.. I must note that on returning our key her husband appeared a polite friendly man. We certainly will not be recommending this place to anyone & we both travel regularly & hold a wide circle of family, friends and business acquaintances.
She enquired as to what time I would be leaving? 730-8am was my indication as things can change with my work.
The room was fairly neat & tidy although it did have a bit of a smoky smell to it...
I awoke to my alarm at 7.25am, I went to the bathroom, I switched the tv on to watch the morning news, returned to bed to have a cuppa and found two knocks on the door & before I could exit the bed I found the grumpy old lady had opened the locked door and was in my apartment advising me there was someone out the front wanting Andrew!
When questioned further about this so called person, she left the room & then advised me that I was late leaving and I should have already left the premises......as it had just gone 730am!
I packed my bags, had a quick shower and as I exited the motel room door I found the old lady waiting out the front with the cleaning trolley. I looked in the rear view mirrow when I drove out & thought that will be the last time I stay here!
Terrible result to what was suppose to be a great relaxing night.....
