Essex CT. In itself is a beautiful town along the Connecticut River. Some very nice shops, good restaurants and the icon on Main St, the Gris, Have stayed here many times and it never disappoints us. The history of the Gris goes back to 1776, nice rooms, the Tap Room is fun and the food is very good. Try the...

Let me just start by saying this hotel is absolutely quintessential All-American. There is a lot of history in the hotel. Thankfully, I was in a renovated room. But, there is a BIG problem with noise - there is no sound buffer or insulation. You can hear other guests entering and leaving the hotel, walking down the halls, entering rooms,...

We used to love the Griswold Inn. It was charming, homey and a great place to stay (and eat). We started going to the Griswold Inn well over 40 years ago, when we lived in Connecticut. We have continued to visit when we were in Connecticut. On our visit 2 years ago we noticed how much the restaurant menu had...

We went because my husband used to sail tall ships on the east coast and this was one of his favorite places! Go on a Monday for Sea Shanty night (probably not so much kid friendly but really fun!) Also make sure you have the clam chowder and the scallop ceviche they were outstanding! Staff was also super fun. Make...

We did not stay at the Inn, we ate at the restaurant a few nights. The dining area historic and quaint. The Pub area was also enjoyable, although noisy, but still fun. The menu selections was many and very good. Plenty of food, so you may want to share.

Brilliant. Super staff, excellent food (recommend the fish and chips--fresh, hand-battered cod (2 huge slabs of excellent fish) and hand-cut chips, just exactly enough to have some of each for later. Walk around the back dining room and see the history and the real side of New England, the shipping memorabilia is excellent.

We had a private room full of history-bribes the walls to take in the photos. Food was great, staff was nice and efficient and proud of the rich history. The bar was lively with live entertainment. Good for personal or business. I Highly recommend.

Boated over from Long Island over the Sound, docking our boat at the Essex Island Marina, and staying overnight at the Griswold Inn. Took about a half hour from Orient Point, and then another half hour up the Connecticut River to Essex. Both the marina and the Inn are great fun. We booked a basic room at the Griswold. The...

The Gris is a local charmer. If you like small town Americana, you will like Essex and The Gris. Although the rooms are old, they do have everything you need. (It is an old inn after all.) The Sunday buffet is to die for. The tap room at night on the weekend is loads of fun and very lively.
