We just returned from the historic Griswold Inn in Essex. We had a wonderful time. The inn was all decorated for the holidays and we fell into the warm ambience that the inn exuded. From the moment checking in with Moira to joining in with the Friday and Saturday evening activities in the Tap Room, we felt the inn's charm....

Always wanted to go here, when we were in Essex. Decided to go for our Anniversary. Food was great, but we were seated at a small table in a corner. No other patrons in the room, felt like we were separated from everything. Would have liked a better area and table. Next time we will request a table near the...

I'd dined and lunched at the Griswold Inn in passing over the years but had never taken the opportunity to spend the night in this fabled hostelry. The fact that the Gris dates its founding to 1776 makes it intriguing, but I wasn't sure the room would be 21st-century appropriate. Our room, as it turned out, wasn't in the main...

The atmosphere is the plus at Griswold especially at Christmas. The food is overpriced and average but total experience makes it worth going to. It is an early American, rustic atmosphere, staff was pleasant and attentive to serving us. The cuisine is New England, my dinner, fish was a little greasy. In all, I recommend Griswold Inn for an enjoyable...

We met up with the family while visiting Connecticut at this lovely restaurant. It is located in downtown Essex, a quaint town that has retained the New England ambience. The food was excellent with a wide variety; cocktails were very good; and their service was also very good. The atmosphere gave us an opportunity to hear eacwh other and the...

I recently dined with a party of 8 at the Griz. From beginning to end our evening was great. We were pleasantly greeted and escorted to a round table in the middle of the dining room. The taproom was full as regulars were waiting for the popular sea shanty singers. It was a festive vibe from the moment we walked...

This inn is truly exceptional. It dates back to revolutionary war days, & each room is unique with furnishings reflecting the time period. Essex CT, the town it is located in, was once a shipbuilding town in the 1800's, & the beautiful ships built there ferried passengers to & from various port cities in NY, NJ, etc. in the late...

Every year college sorority sisters from long ago, along with husbands gather in a different location simply to enjoy each other and whatever the locale has to offer. This year at The Griswold Inn was fabulous because of the food, the company, the music, the accommodations and warmth of the front desk ladies--Maura and Kate. Our three days were fabulous!

Living in central Connecticut I have dined at "The Gris" periodically over the last many years, usually for a special celebration, sometimes just for lunch, and a couple of times just to imbibe in the Taproom. The atmosphere is warm and charming and a highlight of every visit, particularly if you are nautically inclined. Some meals have been memorable and...

Had lunch outside here on a nice fall afternoon. Really enjoyed eating outside. The historic Inn is pretty dark inside. The food was plentiful. Hand cut french fries were served with their fish and chip dish.
