We just spent two nights at the Griswold Inn, Essex CT. We’ve stayed there before, many years ago (30?) in the summer rather than off season. We loved it then and we loved it now. The staff was warm and helpful. We wanted a first floor room and we asked to have two

We have been to the Griswold Inn for lunch many times as we live within an hour of Essex. After reading in "Taverns of the American Revolution" by Adrain Covert (a great guide for travelers seeking such places) that the Gris is the oldest continually operating inn in

This was a great place to eat lunch. All ships in frames on ceiling staff was very helpful. Due to my food allergies they checked with the chef. Great selections I had a turkey sandwich.with a salad. The sandwich was huge. Only $12. They also make their own chips.

But of late disappointing. I think if not for the 5 piece jazz band, we might forgo coming. To begin - requested room honored. Service has always been commendable but not this time. Maybe the one young woman had too many tables to service, but she always needed to be waved at to

Greetings from The Gris, Merle! We are certainly disappointed that your experience at Sunday Hunt Breakfast was clearly not up to our standards. Coincidentally we have been discussing ways to improve this event and offer a more “consistent” guest experience. Your comments confirm it is necesssary to do so post haste and we are addressing them with our staff. Though we are disheartened to learn of your far less than ideal expereience, we will make some changes to improve and hope you will return to a, once again, delightful experience! Respectfully, The Paul Family

Greetings from The Griswold Inn! Thankfully the TA community reached out to respond to your question. Our apology for not responding until now! (There is a new backend formatting where questions, etc., appear a bit differently and we didn’t see this.) We do have free wi-fi throughout our “campus” and there is a large screen tv on property in one of our common spaces, seldom used. We have found that not having TVs in guest rooms becomes less and less of an “issue” for people these days: many seem to prefer to stream their favorite shows on tablets or even smart phones. Plus - our original reason for not having them - we want people to enjoy all that is special about The Gris and our Tap Room is certainly part of the experience: we feature live music every night of the week! So much fun!!! :)

Sorry to say - there are no laundry facilities for guests on property. Essex Laundry, however, is within 5 minutes from the Inn.
