Rustic lodge in a beautiful setting, Spearfish Canyon. Service was spectacular. Very clean and accommodating. Has an excellent restaurant, Latchstring and UTV rentals next door. Has 3 different walking trails just outside the lodge that lead to breathtaking natural sites including water falls and rapids. Trails are accessible for most people. There are handicap accessible rooms on the first floor, which is important because the lodge does not have an elevator. The lodge has a spacious main lobby with welcoming seating and a huge fireplace. There is a full service bar with bistro type eats in the main lobby with attached outdoor seating. A very cozy and relaxing lodge!

We had never stayed at this lodge before. We chose to stay there due to the ability to rent sleds and get on the trails right from the lodge. As it turns out, the lodge wouldn’t rent to 16 year olds so we rented from another location. The hotel was nice, slightly outdated, but definitely has that “deep woods lodge” feel! The views from the front lobby are amazing! The hot tubs were a disappointment as you couldn’t hardly fit more than 3 people in each one. Also, unlike most hotels, there was no breakfast. One other point to note, we stayed three nights, but our room wasn’t really cleaned any of the nights we were there. Beds were made and trash taken out, but no refills on soap/shampoo or toilet paper. We actually were out of tp the last morning of our stay. A serious fight broke out in the room adjacent to ours the first night we were there. It’s apparent the walls are rather thin...including the ones out to the hallway where the fight moved out to.
The location and views make it worth the stay, but the price may be a bit high considering the service.

My husband and I spent the week at this beautiful lodge. The staff was exceptionally helpful and professional. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and attractively decorated. We spent three nights in the Calamity Jane Suite and one in the Hugh Glass Suite. Both suites have their own charm and did not disappoint. The lodge's surroundings are gorgeous, with easy access to recreational trails of all kinds. We traveled with our dog and it was nice that she was welcome at the lodge ($25 per night fee) and on all but the groomed cross country ski trails.
Pros: Convenient snowmobile rental
Pet friendly rooms
Less busy and less expensive on weekdays
Non-smoking facility
Restaurant just across the road
Cons: For some, the limited cell phone service might be a problem. (We, on the other hand, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere where people conversed and enjoyed the surroundings rather than being distracted by their cell phones.)

The lodge itself is as spectacular as the gorgeous scenery. Clean and spacious, beautifully decorated with rustic vibes. The restaurant serves fabulous food and every single staff member wore masks and were very mindful of cleanliness. The service was excellent, the staff in every area of the resort were helpful, friendly and cheerful. They were great and it made the stay even better. The grounds and landscaping look picture perfect. We rented a UTV and were extremely pleased with the sport staff and the ease of the rental process.

We checked before booking that this lodge was observing all COVID-related safety precautions, and they reassured us that they were. But, upon arriving, there was a huge "Welcome Bikers!" sign in front (meaning the 250,000 bikers who gathered in Sturgis, SD, refusing to wear masks, and are now spreading COVID all over the place).
Then, upon checking in, we found that none of the staff wore masks and there was no mask requirement for guests. I sent a note to management the first night I was there explaining that, instead of a relaxing vacation, it was extremely stressful. To date I have received no response.
The SD Governor has not made wearing masks mandatory, but every other hotel we stayed in, in SD, required its staff to wear masks, and its hotel guests too.
So, it looked like it had a lovely lounge, but I couldn't bring myself to go in (the bartender didn't wear a mask). We tried to eat every meal outside, and inside, there was social distancing between tables, but the waiters didn't wear masks.
But the pie was great!
Three stars. :(

A nice enough place to stay, although the rooms are definitely a bit dated. It feels more like a state park (which it is) rather than a luxury or boutique hotel. The towels were a mix of new and ratty-old. The lobby was very pretty and inviting for those wishing to enjoy a bit of socializing during happy hour. For us, trying to be Covid-cautious, the unmasked guests were not appealing. We steered clear. There are multiple, nice hiking paths beginning from the lodge, and the surrounding scenery is breathtaking. Within easy driving distance to Deadwood and other area attractions. Nothing positive to say about the food options located onsite, definitely room for improvement.

We booked the snowmobile package for Presidents' Day weekend. Overall a great weekend and good value at $485 + tax. Do be aware that your vouchers for drinks, dinner and breakfast have specific dates on them. Since we arrived after 11pm and the restaurant was already closed the front desk was very accommodating and changed the dinner voucher to the next day when we would actually be having dinner there. It was very convenient to the the snowmobile on site. The sled is in excellent condition and well powered for a double even though it was just a 600cc. Stay on the west side trails (1, 3, 4) where the snow is deep. The trails did get bumpy in the afternoon due to heavy traffic but we never felt crowded even though there were many people out. We enjoyed it and will likely return here next year.

Our stay at Spearfish Canyon Lodge was great!! The staff was very friendly, the hotel and rooms were clean and food was good. Beds could use an upgrade though. We enjoyed the outdoor hot tub after snowmobiling and we're thankful for the robes that were provided. We also rented snowmobiles from Spearfish Canyon Lodge. Can't say enough about how friendly the guys were that helped us. The check in was quick, they explained everything thoroughly and patiently answered my numerous questions. Snowmobiles were new and we had no issues. Can't wait to visit again.

The lodge itself is good, the location great, management is 0 stars.
I had a reservation email in hand when three days before scheduled arrival I got a call. Since I had booked online (on their website) they were overbooked. I could stay in their apartment across the lot or cancel. They reiterated it was my fault for booking online (on their website). Same price as the suite we'd booked. On arrival we were told housekeeping didn't serve that room to 'just call'. After walking thru a construction area, literally under caution tape, we walked up to see the apartment. The 'balcony' turned out to be the landing at the top of the stairs, there was no phone to call the desk (VZ has no service there), the TV didn't work and there was no WiFi. The apartment itself was a nice 2BR with kitchen. My wife went down to get towels and they offered us a standard room. We accepted. After a couple nights we were able to get a King Premium, leaving my son in the smaller room.
I see this review is getting lengthy so I'll summarize...
Pros: Location is beautiful.
Cons:
1)Didn't provide reserved room
2) Charged us for the original room. Not the smaller one we moved into. $140 per night difference.
3) No towels in either room. What is it with towels?
4) TV didn't work in 2 of 3 rooms. Were told a man would be by. I checked as we were headed to dinner a couple hours later to find he has left for the day. Fortunately the desk clark knew a quick fix, it worked!
5) Windows looked out onto a great view. Unfortunately there was a sidewalk so people walking by looking in.
Bottom line, if you can get a room that doesn't look out to the parking lot and they actually provide that room, the place is nice. The other is just minor issues that bother you more after the initial screwups. And you have to be able to forgive them blaming you. We were told the overcharge was because we didn't complete the room agreement. They were silent when asked how they knew which door to slide the bill under. You get the idea. Good luck!

My husband and I went for the weekend and really enjoyed the lodge. It was in a beautiful location with great hiking all around, unfortunately due to snow we couldn’t get access to some of them. We also rented snow mobiles from here. Staff was helpful and machines were new. I would definitely recommend.

I'm not sure, but there is no elevator in this hotel. Two floors of rooms, so you would need a first floor room. Also, no cell service at this hotel with AT&T or Verizon.
It is only 63 miles. But if you take a drive through the beautiful Black Hills, you will see so much more than going down to the interstate. So time depends on what you are truly looking for. An experience through the Hills or a fast trip to Mt. Rushmore.
It is approximately 1 hour and 19 minutes.
No verizon service & they give you a wifi password put The wifi doesn't work.
