First of all, the log lodge home was immaculate, atmospheric, comfortable and offered panoramic mountain views from the extensive windows inside and sitting on the lovely deck. We were greeted warmly by Jim and Odilla and shown our large Wilderness Loft with an outside balcony. We were going to take a short hike after we checked in and they suggested a better, closer option to a waterfall that we enjoyed. They served free cocktails/wine of your choice and hot appetizers for Happy Hour enjoying the golden glow from the deck. We opted for Odilla's multi course dinner which was delicious and a good value...including wine! Before breakfast, we bundled up with the cozy blankets available and savored a steaming cup of coffee on the deck before Odilla prepared a delicious omelet, sausages, croissants and fruit. We hurried away after breakfast to visit the hot springs, when a few minutes later we heard a "flap, flap, flap". Oh no..we had driven over a rubber tie wrap with a nasty hook that imbedded in the tire. My husband called Jim to ask who we should call, and he more than graciously said he'd be right there with a jack to change the tire for us. Unbelievable, caring service! With the spare safely on, we made our way to the tire shop he recommended and they patched it while we went to the hot springs, which didn't live up to the Elkwood Manor experience. We will always remember their kindness.…
We were on our way from Durango to Taos and kinda stumbled upon this place, and I’m so glad we did! The owners Jim and Odilia couldn’t have been more sweet and made sure we were well taken care of, not to mention Odilia’s homemade meals were wonderful. The patio view of the Rockies is just breathtaking and each room has a unique flair, we hope to get to stay here again when in Colorado.
We had a great stay. The breakfasts were delicious and the view from the deck is gorgeous. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet. We were thrilled our dog was allowed in our room (Country suite-yet it did not smell like a “dog room”) and there was plenty of outdoor space to walk him. Jim (Odilia was on her own vacation) was very tolerant of our exuberant pup in addition to being a hospitable and interesting host. They had a 110 and 50 amp plug-in for our electric vehicle. The evening happy hour with complementary beverages led to interesting conversations with other guests. We will go back!
What a beautiful place. Outstanding view, Jim met us when we arrived, he was so pleasant and made us feel right at home. He showed us around the facility and was eager to help us with any questions during our stay. Odilia is wonderful, great hospitality and boy can she cook. It was a nice change at breakfast to dine as she cooks a more non-traditional breakfast with a Brazilian flair. We loved her cooking so much we also ate dinner one night there. We were not disappointed. Rooms were quiet, clean and very nice. Downtown was packed with people and very busy and we were so glad to be away from it. If your looking for a nice place to get away this is it.
We were welcomed from the moment we got to the door! The room was comfy and clean with lots of details to make the stay so nice. The breakfast was one of the best we've ever had, and the view of the San Juan mountains from the deck was like watching a nature show with the gorgeous sunset following a micro storm just over the mountains. We will be back! Thanks for one of our best stays ever Jim & Odilia!!!
