DANGER! SERIOUS Security issues! Vehicle burglarized twice! Once was a coordinated effort amongst staff! After a long day of driving or skiing, a hot shower and a soak in a hot tub would be nice. Neither will happen at Motel Durango! The Hot Water system is insufficient, for even 25% capacity! The Hot Tub has been down for months, with no plans to repair it. As my wife is a Travel Nurse, we go where there is a need, and to hopefully find a place to settle. Her company placed us in Motel Durango, since it is one of the few, Dog Friendly motels, in Durango. Normally, a house is rented. During our stay, there have been several incidents with mentally ill homeless, one wielding a machete! Another homeless had been housed by a Good Samaritan organization. He had an episode, and sprayed the parking lot, with a Fire Extinguisher, coating the vehicles in corrosive powder. My Suburban was burglarized twice. The first time, included other vehicles, which received damage. The second time was a coordinated effort amongst staff, resulting in over $3,000 in specialty Aircraft and Mechanic tools, and a shotgun, stolen. Automobile Comprehensive Insurance does not cover contents! That falls under your Homeowner’s/Renter’s Insurance. We get to spend $4,000 (shipping isn’t free), because of Motel Durango! Security is AWFUL! The outside lighting is barely sufficient for walking from your vehicle. Between the poor lighting and overgrown vegetation, a person cannot check their surroundings before exiting their vehicle. My wife carries her pistol, since her day frequently ends after dark; It is a predator’s paradise! Management is regularly chasing off the drug dealers, but, there was rumor of a fatal overdose, outside one room. One night, sometime after midnight, there was loud commotion, above our room, so my wife called the Desk. When the Clerk and Assistant Manager confronted the Meth-head Burglars, she watched the situation getting dangerous! In the defense of the two men, she ended up with her gun pointed between the eyes of a Meth-head (he had an amazing Moment of Clarity). Of course, she was cuffed and stuffed, for about 20 minutes. FORTUNATELY, I was away on a job! Four days later, she felt the need to carry it in a “ready to fire” manner, just to comfortably walk to her vehicle, to go to work! She had watched three Hoodrats, from New Mexico, dealing drugs, in the parking lot (see above pic). The Pet Friendly rooms do not have any Fire Suppression. I do not feel comfortable leaving my furry kids unattended. Consequently, we do not close the door enough to latch, so they can be rescued by anyone. The Management does all they can, to improve the Customer Experience. Sadly, the owners won’t listen to management, and spend the money for proper security. The motel appears to be a Tax Shelter, for the owner(s): their other properties are Purgatory Ski Resort, and High-End Housing. It’s only a matter of time, before someone gets killed. Please do not jeopardize your safety, Loved Ones, belongings, and vacation!…
Bathroom is in need of serious repairs.. the room was clean.. But otherwise, a complete wreck of a hotel.. Noisy, paper thin walls. Hotel staff were pleasent. Worn carpets.. Even for a budget hotel. Very disappointing.
Pro: price, location Con: hot water ran out every day, heater was finicky, requested new towels which were placed on the floor outside the door, stolen iPhone charger which mgmt did nothing about, thin walls, smelled old, no coffee maker in room, microwave was broken, the top hotel blanket was crusty I would never stay here again even if it was free
I have no complaints about Motel Durango. I'm always nervous when booking online at small, local motels I've never been to but this place was wonderful! We will be back, hopefully in spring to make use of the BBQ grills they've got in th back! The rooms are nice and clean. The beds were not bad, we got a restful sleep and didn't wake up with any aches (I've got a Purple matress at home that other beds rarely can compete with). There was a good size TV with cable & accommodations to hook up our own video game consoles, wifi to stream movies & games (may want to bring a small extension outlet for this as the outlets were far from the TV). Mini fridge & microwave were clean and worked great. The "riverfront view" was beautiful especially when it snowed in the morning. The heater worked well in the room & there was plenty of hot water for showers. The motel staff were very friendly & accommodating. All other guests were respectful during this time & everyone wore face masks in the common areas/hallways. Overall we had a lovely stay & you can't beat the price!…
It could be COVID has put some people here, but there seem to be a significant number of homeless types that may have previously been homeless and are now living here. The facility and location are fine. The staff is friendly and efficient. So not sure what’s going on with the clientele. Hopefully, this issue will change because this motel has a lot going for it, including the price.
