Cutlery & dishes in room with a microwave!
Quiet, too.
Supermarket and lots of Asian restaurants nearby.
If you expect the Hyatt, this is not the place for you :-) It is a cheap and cheerful place with friendly staff. Parking is underneath the hotel. 5 minute walk to a range of trams, train stops and buses. Located very closely to Richmond's Victoria Parade and the trams to the city.
Certainly would stay again on any trip to Melbourne. If you are on a budget, this is a great place.
Yes we lost our money but I could not stay there. I have travelled extensively and don’t mind a bit of wear and tare and have stayed in some pretty basic places in Europe but non this dirty. I have never walked out of a place before. It might be central but there are a lot of better options in the area.

Call me picky, but i dont think they should even bother advertising their 'continental breakfast' considering that its just 4 pieces of bread in a sandwhich bag (set out in the room the day before), a tetra popper and a box of cereal out of a funpack...
Bathroom was dirty and stained quite badly. Room was uncomfortable as there was no outside window (no fresh air) and we were in the room closest to the office/entrance. This was the worst room as we heard people coming in and out all night, and they didnt turn the light off till after 2am in the morning - which came streaming in because the curtains were so thin.
Then the room next door decided to blare their tv or radio really loud sometime after 1am and the manager didnt do anything about it!
Also, while pretty close to the train and tram line (about 5-10 mins walk) it was a pretty dodgy end of town with not much happening at night.
Spoke to the admin staff the morning after but was told that the manager was not available and would not be in for the rest of the day.
I dont think this place rates 3 1/2 stars at all, I'd give them 2-2 1/2 stars.
The only window in our room did not open at all. The design of the hotel also means that the one locked window overlooks an internal hallway. While we had requested a non smoking room, the abundance of tables and chairs in the internal hallway were littered with ashtrays, which are right outside the unit doors. This inevitably means that a non smoking room is not that-Note to owners, smoke does seep under doors!
It was not busy on the night we stayed but we still had people from the neighbouring units smoking outside our door and looking straight into our room, so we had to pull the heavy drapes for privacy, which made the room even more claustrophobic.
It was the stale smoke smell and claustrophobic atmosphere that we had the most issues with at this motel. We kept the aircon on all night to try to get some air but my room mate still had a mild panic attack because of the shut in atmosphere. People who are in the slightest bit claustrophic should definitely not stay here.
On the positive side-the room, although fairly well worn, was clean with comfortable beds and reasonable sheets. The bathroom was fairly aged and a bit chipped in places although once again it seemed quite clean. The cleanliness of the room was the main reason we did not flee on entrance (and also the fact that I had payed over the internet and did not think I would get any money back).
The continental breakfast included in our rate was adequet although overly sweet berry mixture poppers were provided as 'juice'. Not appreciated by anyone over the age of 7 I think.
There are some good pubs nearby with nice bistros and we did have a good pub style dinner the evening of our stay.
The hotel staff seemed generally indifferent and barely spoke to us on checkin or check out.
I really believe motels should advertise that they have no external windows on booking and non smoking rooms should not smell of stale smoke. If you do stay here, insist on one of the very end rooms as I could see that some of these had a small external window (although they too appeared to be sealed). Even then, dont expect good views, but at least you might see some sky.
Not for the claustrophobic or non smokers.
I had booked using Ratestogo and prepaid $10 online, but was charged this same $10 upon checking out. When I queried this, I was told that this was a mistake and a problem with their computer system.
Also, the iron had been damaged by having been left face-down on the ironing board, which meant that a sticky mess had been left on the face of the iron. Having not realised this, I ironed my shirt - the iron left a gooey brown mess on my shirt (which, thankfully, I could scrape off).
The good parts of the motel are:
1) Free undercover parking.
2) TV that works.
3) Fantastic water pressure in the shower, with great bathroom products.
They also claim to be a motel, but have fewer car parking spaces than they have rooms.
The photos they have online are quite flattering, but don't be fooled. This place stinks!
