I think the hotel could do better. The cleanliness was okay but not great. The overhead fun was very dusty and the ceiling had some spots that looked like mold. My throat itched and I sneezed a lot while in the room but that may have been a mental reaction. They should get rid of the blankets and just use white duvets as this gives a better cleanliness feel. No restaurant was open on the property. My room was supposed to have a coffee maker but I couldn't have used it anyway coz was worried about the cleanliness. The location was good though and I liked the pool. I spent most of my time outdoors and only came back when I was really tired so I could sleep.

I stayed here for a few days as I was traveling and taking a weekend off to explore the near by parks. My company booked this hotel, and at first glance, it looked like a run down motel. But honestly, it’s not the worst place. It did have a funky smell upon entering my room, maybe the outdated carpet and bedding had something to do with it. But thankfully, no bed bugs, as I always check. The shower is a bit short, and I’m 5’6”, so I can’t imagine how it would be for someone taller. The water leaks out onto the floor, so there’s that. I was also woken up by housekeeping when I set out the sign and adjusted the very old fashion door sign that was clearly ignored. I liked this place because it looked cool during the daytime, there’s a large garden and pool but of course it was closed due to covid. Overall, it’s not the best but it’s not terrible. For the price, I’d stay here again, just check your room. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

We stayed here because a convention we were attending was being held here. While the pool and restaurant were closed, they did serve our group with a delicious lunch plus coffee and goodies in the meeting room. Our room was clean and included a microwave and refrigerator. Free parking at room. This was the first hotel we've stayed at during covid that actually serviced the room. Real treat, making things feel more normal. Everyone was quite helpful. The rooms do not have individual thermostats so the A/C is either on or off. It's really conveniently located to the freeway and downtown and seems like there are lots of walking and dining options nearby.

I made an account just so that I could leave a review. People need to understand how AWFUL that hotel truly is. As others have son, it would have been safer, cleaner, and more comfortable to sleep on the side of the road. We checked in around 10 PM., Exhausted. Our room smelled like mess. A few steps in the source was obvious. There was black, mold all over the shower and on the ceiling in the bathroom. There were bugs ground into the filthy carpet. Our kids had to change rooms because there was a wet stain on their bedspread. God help the person who brings a black light into this hotel. Moving on, the car alarm woke me up at 4 AM. I thought about investigating, but decided against it as I did not want murder to be the end of my story. All of this would have been enough for a one star review, no stars is a better option, but that is not available. The final nail in the proverbial coffin was the bloody fingerprints on the door. I’m uploading pictures of the entire debacle. This was the worst place I’ve ever been and I’ve traveled to a couple of third world countries. At least in Haiti, they used a palm frond to sweep the floor.

Be warned, this place is infested with bugs! We stopped in on Thursday night after an exhausting travel day. The place seemed reasonable and decent online. We checked in, were given our room. Room
222. We had such a long travel day, we asked if a late check out was an option, we were told it was and were marked for a noon check out. We went to the room, it smelled and was not in the best condition but we were so tired, it didn't matter. Our room had two beds, the first one had stains on it, so we checked the second bed, that one was ok. We were so exhausted, we didn't complain. We were only looking for a safe place to sleep so we knocked out. The following morning we woke up to bugs crawling on us!
Seriously, we grabbed our stuff and got out of there, passing a huge bug on our way to the lobby (no joke).
We did manage to grab some pics. More will be posted but we talked to the front desk, David was embarrassed and apologized but told us that we needed to speak to Jay the manager. The manager avoided speaking with us for a day until we called blocked. He finally said he could give us $40 refund.
He didn't seem to have any issue with the fact the place has bugs crawling everywhere. I will be sending videos to the news outlets, people of Visalia need to know not to recommend this location. From far away it gives off such a quaint vibe. I'm so disgusted…..waking up to bugs on me!!! It can still feel them, seriously!

This is a ghetto. Carpets are 50 year old. Beds for sure have various kinds of bugs. They gave us a room, that is not even cleaned from previous travel or.

They boasted they serve hot breakfast on their website and all travel sites like Priceline, expedia or trip advisor etc. Where as that service is closed for several months now.

I understand use to pandemic, every business had hard times, but when you charged me(Priceline $145/night). Where as value is $30.

Oh btw, it is NOT family friendly. Several homeless folks pass by the rooms, as there is no fence or defined boundaries for the property. I have empathy to fellow human beings, but u never know what a particular individual would do.

Besides this hotel is next to COUNTY JAIL…GOOGLE THE MAP..
TV didn’t worked. Patio door which goes to out is just a latch, like very thin sheet metal hooks on to frame. With very little force it could be opened.

Don’t bother about elevator, no vending machine. Ice machine had a tag “not working” for 2 days we stayed there.

Overall this is lowest of lowest rated motel/hotel or suite for me in 25 years…

It’s very difficult to tell how good or bad a place is when using booking.com website so have to rely on up to date reviews. Looking at this motel the exterior looks like 4star and we requested a garden view. So far so good. My daughter checked us in so I can’t personally comment on that area. However. That was at good as it got sadly. Bad points, very dated interior. The heating is non existent, just a switch on the wall off-low-med-high, very noisy and dated system and didn’t warm up the room so we left it off. No extra blankets anywhere so slept with jumper and socks to keep warm. Very noisy as we were above a busy route, luckily we had ear plugs. The hand basin had a wobbly mixer tap and cracked basin. The wc needed a brand new seat which was stained and loose. It needs the owner of the motel to stay in Room 273 for him/herself and rate their stay! The bar and grill were closed on a Friday night so we had to walk to Visalia shopping centre were we found a few eateries, we chose Sushi which was nice and friendly. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, the room clean, nice white towels. Plenty of parking. Good size room with hanging space. The room cost us £125 thru’ booking.com I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Don't stay here. It's not worth it. I stayed here before and it was ok, you cannot control the air at all and the room stays hot but it was needed for the night. This time though they wouldn't even let me check in. They told me they only take credit cards they've heard of before, and FYI they've never heard of anything. I gave them an opensky visa credit card, nope, gave them a us bank credit card with an 8k limit, they said nope don't take that either. They said they never heard of it so they can't take it. Even after another employee spoke up and was like hey I know open sky that is a legit credit card they still wouldn't take it. Then another guest got up to the front desk and told me to get out of the way and not speak for her when I asked if they would take her credit card that was a federal card they definitely never heard of and they took hers. I recorded the whole thing as I started to get the feeling they just didn't want me there, maybe cause I've got a tattoos and young? I was there to work lyft and instacart, wearing a Ruth ginsburg shirt and instacart badge. I'm not ghetto or hood, but the fact they accepted an old lady's credit card but not mine when mine is a visa and accepted every where is crazy. I literally went around the corner and used my credit card at a hotel that only accepts major credit cards with no issue for $20 less and it comes with an ac that works. So maybe this worked out for the better. I worked 10 years at front desk, I should have left right when they couldn't figure out what a credit card is.

I had booked 2 nights to stay at the Lamp Liter Inn. When I arrived and presented my credit card, I was told that they couldn't take my card because it was from an on-line bank. I let the lady at the desk know that it was not and was issued from a legitimate credit card company. She then said because it was a rewards card (it has a picture of a cruise line on the front of it), it isn't a "real and valid" credit card. I pointed out the Master Card logo on the front and back of the card and she would go back to it being from an on-line bank. I googled the credit card company name and read to her that it's a legitimate bank and credit card institution. She kept saying her boss wouldn't allow her to take the card. To add insult to injury, she had the nerve to then to give the room I reserved, to another person that walked off the street. The whole time we were debating the legitimacy of my card, she would take phone calls and tell the people they were full that evening. Once I realized me and my 7 year old were stranded and started to find a new place to stay, a man walked off the street and asked for a room, and all of a sudden a room was open. The front desk needs a lot more training on on-line banks/reward cards/and legitimate credit cards.

The Lamp Liter Inn far exceeded even our most optimistic expectations:

Our room was impeccably clean, the property is very charming, and the staff friendly, competent, and helpful. This might be a first for my experience with motels, but there was nothing at all we could have complained about.

Furthermore, the pool itself deserves a five-star rating. I believe it is about 25 yards long and , while only 3 feet deep on the shallow end, it is perfectly fine for lap swimming, which is very rate for hotels or motels.

We will be back and bring out swim goggles.
