Shutters is such a great place. Location is perfect at the beach but also close to shopping in Beverly Hills. Pool area is old style luxory and feels like Meditertanean beach club. Restaurants are all great. Rooms very comfortable and service is good.

The tag line on the website states "Shutters, nothing standing between you and the sand." This is not the case. The hotel is located in a very busy public setting with a busy bike/walking path separating the hotel from the sand and a totally awful water hazard. The water hazard is really horrible and ruins most views of the ocean. Its...

The main attraction of this hotel is its location at the Santa Monica Beach. However, there is an increasing list of significant detractions. The cluttered outlay of the building and of the rooms is an old and tolerable problem and could be fixed only by a major renovation. More significant is the decline of service that has taken place over...

A long weekend in SoCal was just what we needed. Shutters did not disappoint. The breakfast in the morning at the hotel was refreshing. The waiter had just the right mix of easy going / professionalism. The hotel remains unchanged thru the years but that seems comforting. Anytime you are in Santa Monica drop by for a few days or...

Our family stayed here and loved the beachfront fun! The pier is within walking distance and great bike riding. AN old fashioned arcade, roller coaster and other rides kept my kids busy.Skate boarding and biking along the beach was fun. Close to the airport too.

We accidentally booked this hotel for ourselves and our 4 children and arrived to find it was far more elegant and glamorous than we had expected! However, the kids were very well behaved and the staff could not have been more helpful. It was a bit like staying in Ralph Lauren's incredibly chic beach house. Stylish and very elegant. The...

LA native and I love Shutters. Great Hemingway-esque lobby, casual luxury hotel. Right on the boardwalk in Santa Monica. Easy access to the beach. Bikes available out front for a ride along the beach. Good spa (not great) but my masseuse was incredible. Shower pressure insanely good. Beautiful and comfortable rooms.

We stay at this hotel when we are flying out of LA to Asia. It's close to the airport and right on the beach. Our only frustration is that the best beach-front rooms are small and difficult to move around with luggage. The rooms, however, are lovely and well furnished. We keep the door to our little balcony open to...

At the end of our HWY-1 trip we stayed at Shutter's on the Beach at Santa Monica, the location is superb, being right on the beach, step out after breakfast and you can walk a few minutes on the promenade one way to Venice Beach, the other to the Santa Monica Pier. The parking at the entrance turning circle is...

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
