Ala Mar Motel - Santa Barbara Having made no prior reservations for Santa Barbara, we just wanted to find somewhere cheap and cheerful for a 2 night stay for our 2 and a half weeks across the USA. We stumbled (unfortunately) across the Ala Mar Motel as it had the perfect location (right on the beach). I somehow didn't see...

My wife "had business to take care of", in Santa Barbara. This was our second, but first time at Ala Mar Motel. To be honest, I was expecting what pictures others have posted, and what people rated it (2 1/2). There were only two rooms left, one at $164, another at $189, I chose the latter. We were late for...

The hotel is right on the beach, cannot get any better than this regarding location :) our room was clean and tidy. The Irish gentleman at the reception was nice and gave us some tips on where to go / what to do around the area. Only bad thing is their breakfast, wouldnt call a $ 1.00 pastry and coffee...

Friendly and easy motel with free parking and wifi. Good rates compared to what you get. Rooms are ok but no AC. Bathrooms are ok, but has a few miles on them. The vibe is easy and friendly. Complementary breakfast consist of a few pasteries and instant oatmeal, tea and coffee. We ate right on the porch in front of...

Great location, clean, cozy rooms and very good beds! Our children were given a two bedroom apartment with glimpses of the ocean from their balcony, kitchen and a large living room with a big sofa and large tv-screen. Ver cozy! My wife and I stayed in a regular double bedroom with a kitchen and large bathroom. I was clean, large...

The location couldn't be better. I took the train up for the weekend and this hotel is easy walking distance from the station. Check in was old school with a paper form and a key. I stayed in the penthouse suite which is up 2 flights of steep steps, so I wouldn't recommend for small children or people with mobility...

Pay a little more it will be forth it. Person that first helped me was pretty rude and didn't understand how the system worked. Was helped later by a very knowledgeable employee. Nice looking room just dirty and windows didn't close. Area was okay.

Have we lost our grip on reality? Since when is it acceptable to pay $100 per night to stay in a place like this (AND THIS WAS WITH A DISCOUNT!!). I booked this hotel in a rush as we were unexpectedly stopping at Santa barbara on a road trip down the west coast. It was one of the cheapest I...

We really just needed a room to sleep in, but enjoyed some time having cocktails with friends on the veranda overlooking the beautiful beach across the street. Don't come if you're used to being pampered with luxurious rooms and service. If you want a great place to have cocktails and enjoy the company of friends, this place is great!

The room was very nice, we traveled with three teenage kids and two adults. We had two queen beds and one twin, it also had a fireplace. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom had a nice jacuzzi bathtub even though we could not get the jets to turn on. The breakfast wasn't really breakfast it was...
